Proverbs 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen careful y to what I know;	1 Figlio mio, dà retta alla mia sapienza, porgi l'orecchio alla mia prudenza;
2 so that you may preserve discretion and your lips may guard knowledge. Take no notice of a loose-living woman,	2 onde tu custodisca i pensieri, e le tue labbra mantengano la disciplina. Non credere all'inganno della donna;
3 for the lips of the adulteress drip with honey, her palate is more unctuous than oil,	3 perchè le labbra della meretrice stillano miele, e più morbida dell'olio è la sua bocca;
4 but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.	4 ma alla fine è amara come l'assenzio o acuta come spada a due tagli,
5 Her feet go down to death, Sheol the goal of her steps;	5 i suoi piedi portano alla morte e i suoi passi vanno a finire all'inferno.
6 far from fol owing the path of life, her course is uncertain and she does not know it.	6 Non batte la via della vita, i suoi passi sono incerti e investigabili.
7 And now, son, listen to me, never deviate from what I say:	7 Or dunque, ascoltami, figlio mio, e non ti scostare dai miei suggerimenti.
8 set your course as far from her as possible, go nowhere near the door of her house,	8 Tienti lontano da lei nel tuo cammino, non ti avvicinare alla porta della sua casa;
9 or she wil hand over your honour to others, the years of your life to a man without pity,	9 per non dare a stranieri il tuo onore, e i tuoi anni al crudele;
10 and strangers wil batten on your property, and your produce go to the house of a stranger,	10 se non vuoi che gli stranieri si sazino dei tuoi beni e le tue fatiche vadano a finire in casa d'altri;
11 and, at your ending, your body and flesh having been consumed, you wil groan	11 per non essere costretto alla fine a gemere, quando avrai consunte le tue carni e il tuo corpo,
12 and exclaim, 'Alas, I hated discipline, my heart spurned al correction;	12 O a dire: « Perchè ebbi in odio la disciplina, e il mio cuore non prese in paco le correzioni?
13 I would not attend to the voice of my masters, I would not listen to those who tried to teach me.	13 Perchè non ascoltai la voce dei miei educatori e non diedi retta ai maestri?
14 Now I have come to nearly every kind of misery, in the assembly and in the community.'	14 Per poco non giunsi ai colmo del male davanti al popolo e all'assemblea! »
15 Drink the water from your own storage-well, fresh water from your own spring.	15 Bevi l'acqua della tua cisterna, l'acqua viva del tuo pozzo;
16 Even if your fountains overflow outside, your streams of water in the public squares:	16 le tue fonti si diramino al di fuori, le tue acque si spandano sulle piazze.
17 let them be for you alone, and not for strangers with you.	17 Restane unico padrone, non ci fare entrare teco gli altri.
18 May your fountain-head be blessed! Find joy with the wife you married in your youth,	18 Sia benedetta la tua fonte, la sposa della tua gioventù sia la tua gioia;
19 fair as a hind, graceful as a fawn: hers the breasts that ever fill you with delight, hers the love that everholds you captive.	19 cerva carissima, graziosa gazzella, le sue carezze sian sempre il tuo incanto e t'affascini continuamente il suo amore.
20 Why be seduced, my son, by someone else's wife, and fondle the breast of a woman who belongs toanother?	20 Perchè, o figlio mio, ti lasci sedurre da una straniera e ti dai in braccio ad una sconosciuta?
21 For the eyes of Yahweh observe human ways, and survey al human paths.	21 Il Signore osserva la condotta dell'uomo ed esamina ogni suo passo.
22 The wicked is snared in his own misdeeds, is caught in the meshes of his own sin.	22 E l'empio resta nella rete delle sue iniquità, legato dalle funi dei suoi peccati.
23 For want of discipline, he dies, led astray by his own excessive folly.	23 Egli morrà per mancanza di disciplina e sarà rovinato dalla sua grande stoltezza.
