Proverbs 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen careful y to what I know;	1 Figlio mio, fa’ attenzione alla mia sapienza e porgi l’orecchio alla mia intelligenza,
2 so that you may preserve discretion and your lips may guard knowledge. Take no notice of a loose-living woman,	2 perché tu possa conservare le mie riflessioni e le tue labbra custodiscano la scienza.
3 for the lips of the adulteress drip with honey, her palate is more unctuous than oil,	3 Veramente le labbra di una straniera stillano miele, e più viscida dell’olio è la sua bocca;
4 but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.	4 ma alla fine ella è amara come assenzio, pungente come spada a doppio taglio.
5 Her feet go down to death, Sheol the goal of her steps;	5 I suoi piedi scendono verso la morte, i suoi passi conducono al regno dei morti,
6 far from fol owing the path of life, her course is uncertain and she does not know it.	6 perché ella non bada alla via della vita, i suoi sentieri si smarriscono e non se ne rende conto.
7 And now, son, listen to me, never deviate from what I say:	7 Ora, figli, ascoltatemi e non allontanatevi dalle parole della mia bocca.
8 set your course as far from her as possible, go nowhere near the door of her house,	8 Tieni lontano da lei il tuo cammino e non avvicinarti alla porta della sua casa,
9 or she wil hand over your honour to others, the years of your life to a man without pity,	9 per non mettere in balìa di altri il tuo onore e i tuoi anni alla mercé di un uomo crudele,
10 and strangers wil batten on your property, and your produce go to the house of a stranger,	10 perché non si sazino dei tuoi beni gli estranei, e le tue fatiche non finiscano in casa di uno sconosciuto
11 and, at your ending, your body and flesh having been consumed, you wil groan	11 e tu non debba gemere alla fine, quando deperiranno il tuo corpo e la tua carne,
12 and exclaim, 'Alas, I hated discipline, my heart spurned al correction;	12 e tu debba dire: «Perché mai ho odiato l’istruzione e il mio cuore ha disprezzato la correzione?
13 I would not attend to the voice of my masters, I would not listen to those who tried to teach me.	13 Non ho ascoltato la voce dei miei maestri, non ho prestato orecchio a chi m’istruiva.
14 Now I have come to nearly every kind of misery, in the assembly and in the community.'	14 Per poco non mi sono trovato nel colmo dei mali in mezzo alla folla e all’assemblea».
15 Drink the water from your own storage-well, fresh water from your own spring.	15 Bevi l’acqua della tua cisterna e quella che zampilla dal tuo pozzo,
16 Even if your fountains overflow outside, your streams of water in the public squares:	16 perché non si effondano al di fuori le tue sorgenti e nelle piazze i tuoi ruscelli,
17 let them be for you alone, and not for strangers with you.	17 ed essi siano per te solo e non per degli estranei che sono con te.
18 May your fountain-head be blessed! Find joy with the wife you married in your youth,	18 Sia benedetta la tua sorgente, e tu trova gioia nella donna della tua giovinezza:
19 fair as a hind, graceful as a fawn: hers the breasts that ever fill you with delight, hers the love that everholds you captive.	19 cerva amabile, gazzella graziosa, i suoi seni ti inebrino sempre, sii sempre invaghito del suo amore!
20 Why be seduced, my son, by someone else's wife, and fondle the breast of a woman who belongs toanother?	20 Perché, figlio mio, perderti per la straniera e stringerti al petto di una sconosciuta?
21 For the eyes of Yahweh observe human ways, and survey al human paths.	21 Poiché sono davanti agli occhi del Signore le vie dell’uomo, egli bada a tutti i suoi sentieri.
22 The wicked is snared in his own misdeeds, is caught in the meshes of his own sin.	22 L’empio è preda delle sue iniquità, è tenuto stretto dalle funi del suo peccato.
23 For want of discipline, he dies, led astray by his own excessive folly.	23 Egli morirà per mancanza d’istruzione, si perderà per la sua grande stoltezza.
