Proverbs 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen careful y to what I know;	1 Mon fils, sois attentif à ma sagesse, prête l’oreille à mes paroles avisées.
2 so that you may preserve discretion and your lips may guard knowledge. Take no notice of a loose-living woman,	2 Rappelle-toi mes conseils et parle toujours à bon escient.
3 for the lips of the adulteress drip with honey, her palate is more unctuous than oil,	3 Les flatteries de la femme infidèle sont douces comme le miel, ses paroles plus onctueuses que l’huile.
4 but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.	4 Mais la fin sera plus amère que l’absinthe; c’est une épée aiguisée, à double tranchant.
5 Her feet go down to death, Sheol the goal of her steps;	5 Ses pieds courent droit vers la mort, ses pas descendent vers le tombeau;
6 far from fol owing the path of life, her course is uncertain and she does not know it.	6 plutôt que de prendre le chemin de la vie, elle suit le sentier qui s’égare où elle ne sait pas.
7 And now, son, listen to me, never deviate from what I say:	7 Et maintenant, mon fils, écoute-moi; ne t’écarte pas de mes conseils.
8 set your course as far from her as possible, go nowhere near the door of her house,	8 Fais ton chemin loin de cette femme, ne te risque pas à l’entrée de sa maison.
9 or she wil hand over your honour to others, the years of your life to a man without pity,	9 Car ton honneur peut-être serait livré à des étrangers, des années de ta vie passeraient à des gens impitoyables.
10 and strangers wil batten on your property, and your produce go to the house of a stranger,	10 Des étrangers peut-être engloutiraient ta fortune, tes économies finiraient chez un autre!
11 and, at your ending, your body and flesh having been consumed, you wil groan	11 C’est alors que tu gémirais, voyant épuisées tes forces et ta santé;
12 and exclaim, 'Alas, I hated discipline, my heart spurned al correction;	12 tu dirais: “Comment ai-je pu rejeter les avertissements et mépriser tant de sages conseils?
13 I would not attend to the voice of my masters, I would not listen to those who tried to teach me.	13 Pourquoi n’ai-je pas écouté la voix de mes maîtres et suivi les avis de ceux qui m’instruisaient?
14 Now I have come to nearly every kind of misery, in the assembly and in the community.'	14 Me voici presque arrivé au plus bas, au milieu du peuple et de l’assemblée!”
15 Drink the water from your own storage-well, fresh water from your own spring.	15 Bois l’eau de ta propre citerne, bois à l’eau qui jaillit de ta source!
16 Even if your fountains overflow outside, your streams of water in the public squares:	16 Ne permets pas que tes eaux se perdent au-dehors, qu’on les voie couler par les rues.
17 let them be for you alone, and not for strangers with you.	17 Qu’elles restent pour toi seul, et pas pour des étrangers avec toi!
18 May your fountain-head be blessed! Find joy with the wife you married in your youth,	18 Bénie soit ta fontaine! Connais la joie avec la femme de ta jeunesse,
19 fair as a hind, graceful as a fawn: hers the breasts that ever fill you with delight, hers the love that everholds you captive.	19 biche gracieuse, aimable gazelle! Trouve ton plaisir entre ses seins en tout temps, et sois toujours épris de son amour!
20 Why be seduced, my son, by someone else's wife, and fondle the breast of a woman who belongs toanother?	20 Pourquoi, mon fils, tomberais-tu amoureux d’une inconnue, pourquoi étreindre le sein d’une étrangère?
21 For the eyes of Yahweh observe human ways, and survey al human paths.	21 Sais-tu que Yahvé observe la démarche des humains et surveille tous leurs sentiers.
22 The wicked is snared in his own misdeeds, is caught in the meshes of his own sin.	22 Qui fait le mal se prendra au mal qu’il a fait, il se verra ficelé par ses propres péchés.
23 For want of discipline, he dies, led astray by his own excessive folly.	23 Il mourra pour avoir refusé toute discipline, trop de méfaits le perdront.
