NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Better a mouthful of dry bread with peace than a house fil ed with quarrelsome sacrifices.	1 E' meglio una crosta di pan secco e la tranquillità che una casa ricolma di sacrifici di discordia.
2 A shrewd servant comes off better than an unworthy child, he will share the inheritance with thebrothers.	2 Il servo intelligente sta sopra un figlio snaturato e insieme ai suoi fratelli divide i suoi diritti.
3 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold, but Yahweh for the testing of hearts!	3 Il crogiolo è per l'argento e il forno è per l'oro; ma è il Signore che scruta i cuori.
4 An evil-doer pays heed to malicious talk, a liar listens to a slanderous tongue.	4 Il malevolo presta attenzione a labbra inique; il bugiardo presta l'orecchio a lingua malevola.
5 To mock the poor is to insult the Creator, no one who laughs at distress wil go unpunished.	5 Chi deride il povero oltraggia il Creatore; chi gode dell'infelice non resterà impunito.
6 The crown of the aged is their children's children; the children's glory is their father.	6 Corona degli anziani i loro nipotini; onore dei figlioli sono i loro padri.
7 Fine words do not become the foolish, false words become a prince stil less.	7 Allo stolto non si addice un parlare onesto; meno ancora a un onesto una lingua menzognera.
8 A gift works like a talisman for one who holds it: it brings prosperity at every turn.	8 Pietra preziosa è un dono per chi l'ha; dovunque egli si volga ottiene tutto.
9 Whoever covers an offence promotes love, whoever again raises the matter divides friends.	9 Chi nasconde una colpa si procura l'amicizia; ma chi torna sui fatti si priva di un amico.
10 A reproof makes more impression on a person of understanding than a hundred strokes on a fool.	10 Fa più male un rimprovero all'uomo intelligente che cento colpi all'uomo senza senno.
11 The wicked person thinks of nothing but rebellion, but a cruel messenger wil be sent to such a one.	11 Solo di ribellioni va in cerca chi è malvagio; ma un messaggio crudele gli vien mandato contro.
12 Rather come on a bear robbed of her cubs than on a fool in his fol y.	12 Meglio è incontrare un'orsa a cui han rapito i cuccioli che uno stolto nella sua stoltezza.
13 Disaster wil never be far from the house of one who returns evil for good.	13 Uno rende male per bene: la disgrazia mai si allontanerà dalla sua casa.
14 As well unleash a flood as start a dispute; desist before the quarrel breaks out.	14 L'inizio d'una rissa è come l'acqua che straripa: prima che la rissa scoppi, fuggi via.
15 To absolve the guilty and condemn the upright, both alike are abhorrent to Yahweh.	15 Giustificare l'empio e accusare il giusto: il Signore detesta tutt'e due le cose.
16 What good is money in the hand of a fool? To buy wisdom with it? The desire is not there.	16 Perché il denaro in mano all'insensato? Per comprare sapienza? Ma non ne ha l'animo!
17 A friend is a friend at all times, it is for adversity that a brother is born.	17 L'amico ama in ogni circostanza; è un fratello nell'avversità.
18 Whoever offers guarantees lacks sense and goes surety for a neighbour.	18 Uomo privo di senno è chi s'impegna, chi si fa garante per un altro.
19 The double-dealer loves sin, the proud courts ruin.	19 Ama una ferita chi ama la contesa; chi innalza la sua porta cerca la rovina.
20 The tortuous of heart finds no happiness, the perverse of speech fal s into misery.	20 Un cuore perverso mai troverà fortuna; chi ha una lingua falsa cadrà nella sventura.
21 He who fathers a stupid child does so to his sorrow, the father of a fool knows no joy.	21 Chi genera uno stolto lo fa per suo malanno, né si rallegrerà il padre di uno stolto.
22 A glad heart is excel ent medicine, a depressed spirit wastes the bones away.	22 Un cuore contento è un buon rimedio, uno spirito abbattuto inaridisce le ossa.
23 Under cover of his cloak a bad man takes a gift to pervert the course of justice.	23 L'empio accetta un dono di nascosto per deviar le vie della giustizia.
24 The intelligent has wisdom there before him, but the eyes of a fool range to the ends of the earth.	24 Lo sguardo dell'uomo intelligente è fisso alla sapienza; gli occhi dello stolto vanno ai confini della terra.
25 A foolish child is a father's sorrow, and the grief of her who gave the child birth.	25 Tristezza per suo padre è un figlio stolto, amarezza per chi l'ha generato.
26 To fine the upright is indeed a crime, to strike the noble is an injustice.	26 Punire l'uomo giusto non è bene, colpire le persone incensurate è contro l'equità.
27 Whoever can control the tongue knows what knowledge is, someone of understanding keeps a cooltemper.	27 Chi modera le sue parole mostra la sua scienza e chi ha sangue freddo è un uomo intelligente.
28 If the fool holds his tongue, he may pass for wise; if he seals his lips, he may pass for intel igent.	28 Anche lo stolto, se tace, è reputato saggio; chi chiude le sue labbra è un uomo intelligente.
