Proverbs 17

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Better a mouthful of dry bread with peace than a house fil ed with quarrelsome sacrifices.	1 Mejor es un mendrugo de pan a secas, pero con tranquilidad, que casa llena de sacrificios de discordia.
2 A shrewd servant comes off better than an unworthy child, he will share the inheritance with thebrothers.	2 El siervo prudente prevalece sobre el hijo sin honra; tendrá, con los hermanos, parte en la herencia.
3 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold, but Yahweh for the testing of hearts!	3 Crisol para la plata, horno para el oro; los corazones, Yahveh mismo los prueba.
4 An evil-doer pays heed to malicious talk, a liar listens to a slanderous tongue.	4 El malo está atento a los labios inicuos, el mentiroso presta oído a la lengua perversa.
5 To mock the poor is to insult the Creator, no one who laughs at distress wil go unpunished.	5 Quien se burla de un pobre, ultraja a su Hacedor, quien se ríe de la desgracia no quedará impune.
6 The crown of the aged is their children's children; the children's glory is their father.	6 Corona de los ancianos son los hijos de los hijos; los padres son el honor de los hijos.
7 Fine words do not become the foolish, false words become a prince stil less.	7 Al necio no le sienta un lenguaje pulido, y aún menos al noble un hablar engañoso.
8 A gift works like a talisman for one who holds it: it brings prosperity at every turn.	8 El obsequio es un talismán, para el que puede hacerlo; dondequiera que vaya, tiene éxito.
9 Whoever covers an offence promotes love, whoever again raises the matter divides friends.	9 El que cubre un delito, se gana una amistad el que propala cosas, divide a los amigos.
10 A reproof makes more impression on a person of understanding than a hundred strokes on a fool.	10 Más afecta un reproche a un hombre inteligente que cien golpes a un necio.
11 The wicked person thinks of nothing but rebellion, but a cruel messenger wil be sent to such a one.	11 El malvado sólo busca rebeliones, pero le será enviado un cruel mensajero.
12 Rather come on a bear robbed of her cubs than on a fool in his fol y.	12 Mejor topar con osa privada de sus cachorros que con tonto en su necedad.
13 Disaster wil never be far from the house of one who returns evil for good.	13 Si uno devuelve mal por bien no se alejará la desdicha de su casa.
14 As well unleash a flood as start a dispute; desist before the quarrel breaks out.	14 Entablar proceso es dar curso libre a las aguas; interrúmpelo antes de que se extienda.
15 To absolve the guilty and condemn the upright, both alike are abhorrent to Yahweh.	15 Justificar al malo y condenar al justo; ambas cosas abomina Yahveh.
16 What good is money in the hand of a fool? To buy wisdom with it? The desire is not there.	16 ¿De qué sirve la riqueza en manos del necio? ¿Para adquirir sabiduría, siendo un insensato?
17 A friend is a friend at all times, it is for adversity that a brother is born.	17 El amigo ama en toda ocasión, el hermano nace para tiempo de angustia.
18 Whoever offers guarantees lacks sense and goes surety for a neighbour.	18 Es hombre insensato el que choca la mano y sale fiador de su vecino.
19 The double-dealer loves sin, the proud courts ruin.	19 El que ama el pecado, ama los golpes, el que es altanero, busca la ruina.
20 The tortuous of heart finds no happiness, the perverse of speech fal s into misery.	20 El de corazón pervertido, no hallará la dicha; el de lengua doble caerá en desgracia.
21 He who fathers a stupid child does so to his sorrow, the father of a fool knows no joy.	21 El que engendra un necio, es para su mal; no tendrá alegría el padre del insensato.
22 A glad heart is excel ent medicine, a depressed spirit wastes the bones away.	22 El corazón alegre mejora la salud; el espíritu abatido seca los huesos.
23 Under cover of his cloak a bad man takes a gift to pervert the course of justice.	23 El malo acepta regalos en su seno, para torcer las sendas del derecho.
24 The intelligent has wisdom there before him, but the eyes of a fool range to the ends of the earth.	24 Ante el hombre inteligente está la sabiduría, los ojos del necio en los confines de la tierra.
25 A foolish child is a father's sorrow, and the grief of her who gave the child birth.	25 Hijo necio, tristeza de su padre, y amargura de la que lo engendró.
26 To fine the upright is indeed a crime, to strike the noble is an injustice.	26 No es bueno poner multa al justo, golpear a los nobles es contra derecho.
27 Whoever can control the tongue knows what knowledge is, someone of understanding keeps a cooltemper.	27 El que retiene sus palabras es conocedor de la ciencia, el de sangre fría es hombre inteligente.
28 If the fool holds his tongue, he may pass for wise; if he seals his lips, he may pass for intel igent.	28 Hasta al necio, si calla, se le tiene por sabio, por inteligente, si cierra los labios.
