Proverbs 17

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Better a mouthful of dry bread with peace than a house fil ed with quarrelsome sacrifices.	1 Mejor un mendrugo seco con tranquilidad que una casa llena de banquetes con discordia.
2 A shrewd servant comes off better than an unworthy child, he will share the inheritance with thebrothers.	2 El servidor prudente se impondrá al hijo desvergonzado y compartirá la herencia con los hermanos.
3 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold, but Yahweh for the testing of hearts!	3 Hay un crisol para la plata y un horno para el oro, pero el que prueba los corazones es el Señor.
4 An evil-doer pays heed to malicious talk, a liar listens to a slanderous tongue.	4 El malhechor hace caso a la maledicencia, el mentiroso presta oído a la lengua maligna.
5 To mock the poor is to insult the Creator, no one who laughs at distress wil go unpunished.	5 El que se burla del pobre ultraja a su Creador, el que se alegra de una desgracia no quedará impune.
6 The crown of the aged is their children's children; the children's glory is their father.	6 Corona de los ancianos son los nietos, y la gloria de los hijos son sus padres.
7 Fine words do not become the foolish, false words become a prince stil less.	7 No le queda bien al necio un lenguaje refinado, ¡cuánto menos a los nobles la mentira!
8 A gift works like a talisman for one who holds it: it brings prosperity at every turn.	8 Un reglo es un talismán para el que lo da: dondequiera que vaya, todo le sale bien.
9 Whoever covers an offence promotes love, whoever again raises the matter divides friends.	9 El que disimula una ofensa cultiva la amistad, volver sobre la cosa separa del amigo.
10 A reproof makes more impression on a person of understanding than a hundred strokes on a fool.	10 Hace más una reprensión a un hombre inteligente que cien golpes a un necio.
11 The wicked person thinks of nothing but rebellion, but a cruel messenger wil be sent to such a one.	11 El malvado sólo busca la rebelión, pero le será enviado un mensajero cruel.
12 Rather come on a bear robbed of her cubs than on a fool in his fol y.	12 Más vale toparse con una osa privada de sus crías que con un necio en su locura.
13 Disaster wil never be far from the house of one who returns evil for good.	13 Si alguien devuelve mal por bien, la desdicha no se apartará de su casa.
14 As well unleash a flood as start a dispute; desist before the quarrel breaks out.	14 Iniciar un altercado es abrir una compuerta: retírate antes que estalle la disputa.
15 To absolve the guilty and condemn the upright, both alike are abhorrent to Yahweh.	15 Absolver al malvado y condenar al justo son dos cosas que abomina el Señor.
16 What good is money in the hand of a fool? To buy wisdom with it? The desire is not there.	16 ¿Para qué sirve el dinero en manos de un necio? ¿Para adquirir sabiduría? ¡Si no tiene inteligencia!
17 A friend is a friend at all times, it is for adversity that a brother is born.	17 El amigo ama en cualquier ocasión, y un hermano nace para compartir la adversidad.
18 Whoever offers guarantees lacks sense and goes surety for a neighbour.	18 Es un insensato el que estrecha la mano para salir fiador de su prójimo.
19 The double-dealer loves sin, the proud courts ruin.	19 El que ama las querellas ama el pecado, el que alza demasiado su puerta busca la ruina.
20 The tortuous of heart finds no happiness, the perverse of speech fal s into misery.	20 El corazón perverso no hallará la felicidad, y la lengua tortuosa caerá en la desgracia.
21 He who fathers a stupid child does so to his sorrow, the father of a fool knows no joy.	21 El que engendra a un tonto, es para su aflicción, y no hay alegría para el padre de un necio.
22 A glad heart is excel ent medicine, a depressed spirit wastes the bones away.	22 Un corazón alegre es el mejor remedio, pero el espíritu abatido reseca los huesos.
23 Under cover of his cloak a bad man takes a gift to pervert the course of justice.	23 El malvado acepta regalos bajo cuerda para torcer los senderos de la justicia.
24 The intelligent has wisdom there before him, but the eyes of a fool range to the ends of the earth.	24 Delante del hombre inteligente está la sabiduría, pero el necio mira a cualquier parte.
25 A foolish child is a father's sorrow, and the grief of her who gave the child birth.	25 Un hijo necio es la tristeza de su padre y la amargura de aquella que lo engendró.
26 To fine the upright is indeed a crime, to strike the noble is an injustice.	26 Si no está bien multar a un hombre justo, golpear a los nobles supera toda medida.
27 Whoever can control the tongue knows what knowledge is, someone of understanding keeps a cooltemper.	27 El que mide sus palabras es un hombre que sabe, y el que mantiene su sangre fría es inteligente.
28 If the fool holds his tongue, he may pass for wise; if he seals his lips, he may pass for intel igent.	28 Hasta el necio, si calla, puede pasar por sabio, y por inteligente, si cierra los labios.
