1 A mild answer turns away wrath, sharp words stir up anger.1 ܡܠܬܐ ܪܟܝܟܬܐ ܡܗܦܟܐ ܚܡܬܐ ܘܡܠܬܐ ܩܫܝܬܐ ܡܥܝܪܐ ܪܘܓܙܐ
2 The tongue of the wise makes knowledge welcome, the mouth of a fool spews fol y.2 ܠܫܢܐ ܕܚ̈ܟܝܡܐ ܡܫܦܪ ܝܕܥܬܐ ܘܦܘܡܐ ܕܣܟ̈ܠܐ ܓܣܐ ܠܘܛܬܐ
3 The eyes of Yahweh are everywhere: observing the wicked and the good.3 ܒܟܠ ܐܬܪ ܥܝ̈ܢܘܗܝ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܪ̈ܢ ܒ̈ܛܒܐ ܘܒܒܝ̈ܫܐ
4 The tongue that soothes is a tree of life; the perverse tongue, a breaker of hearts.4 ܐܣܝܘܬܐ ܕܠܫܢܐ ܐܝܠܢܐ ܗܝ ܕܚ̈ܝܐ ܘܕܐܟܠ ܡܢ ܦܐܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܢܣܒܥ ܡܢܗ
5 Only a fool spurns a father's discipline, whoever accepts correction is discreet.5 ܣܟܠܐ ܡܡܝܩ ܒܡܪܕܘܬܐ ܕܐܒܘܗܝ ܘܕܥܪܝܡ ܢܛܪ ܡܟܣܢܘܬܐ
6 In the house of the upright there is no lack of treasure, the earnings of the wicked are fraught withanxiety.6 ܒܒܝܬܗ ܕܙܕܝܩܐ ܣܓܐ ܚܝܠܐ ܘܥ̈ܠܠܬܗܘܢ ܕܥܘ̈ܠܐ ܢܐ̈ܒܕܢ
7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge, not so the hearts of fools.7 ܣ̈ܦܘܬܐ ܕܚ̈ܟܝܡܐ ܡܡ̈ܠܠܢ ܝܕܥܬܐ ܘܠܒ̈ܘܬܐ ܕܣ̈ܟܠܐ ܠܐ ܟܐ̈ܢܝܢ
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is abhorrent to Yahweh, dear to him is the prayer of the honest.8 ܕܒ̈ܚܐ ܕܥܘ̈ܠܐ ܡܣܠܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܒܨܠܘܬܐ ܕܬܪ̈ܝܨܐ ܨܒܝܢܗ
9 The conduct of the wicked is abhorrent to Yahweh, but he loves the person whose goal is uprightness.9 ܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܥܘ̈ܠܐ ܡܣܠܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܪܚܡ ܠܐܝܢܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܙܕܝܩܘܬܐ
10 Correction is severe for one who leaves the way; whoever hates being reprimanded wil die.10 ܡܪܕܘܬܐ ܕܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܓܠܝܐ ܗܝ ܘܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܣܢܝܢ ܡܟܣܢܘܬܐ ܢܡܘܬܘܢ
11 Sheol and Perdition lie open to Yahweh; how much more the human heart!11 ܫܝܘܠ ܘܐܒܕܢܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܐܦ ܠܒܘ̈ܬܐ ܕܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܢܫܐ
12 The mocker does not care to be reprimanded, and wil not choose the wise as companions.12 ܠܐ ܪܚܡ ܒܝܫܐ ܠܡ̇ܢ ܕܡܟܣ ܠܗ ܘܥܡ ܚ̈ܟܝܡܐ ܠܐ ܡܗܠܟ
13 Glad heart means happy face, where the heart is sad the spirit is broken.13 ܠܒܐ ܚܕܝܐ ܡܫܦܪ ܓܘܫܡܐ ܘܠܒܐ ܟܝܒܐ ܡܟܐܒ ܪܘܚܐ
14 The heart of the wise seeks knowledge, a fool's mouth feeds on fol y.14 ܠܒܐ ܕܟܐ̈ܢܐ ܒܥܐ ܝܕܥܬܐ ܘܦܘܡܐ ܕܥܘ̈ܠܐ ܡܡܠܠ ܒܝܫ̈ܬܐ
15 For the poor every day is evil, for the joyous heart it is always festival time.15 ܟܠܗܘܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܗ ܕܡܣܟܢܐ ܒܝܫ̈ܝܢ ܘܒܣܝ̈ܡܐ ܫܠܝܢ ܒܟܠܙܒܢ
16 Better to have little and with it fear of Yahweh than immense wealth and with it anxiety.16 ܛܒ ܠܡܕܚܠ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܩܠܝܠ ܛܒ ܡܢ ܣܝ̈ܡܬܐ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܬܐ ܕܥܘ̈ܠܐ
17 Better a dish of herbs when love is there than a fattened ox and hatred to go with it.17 ܛܒܐ ܗܝ ܫܪܘܬܐ ܕܝܪܩܐ ܘܚܘܒܐ ܕܫܡܐ ܛܒ ܡܢ ܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܡ̈ܦܛܡܐ ܒܣܢܐܬܐ
18 The hot-headed provokes disputes, the equable al ays dissension.18 ܓܒܪܐ ܚܡܬܢܐ ܡܓܪܓ ܗܪܬܐ ܘܓܒܪܐ ܢܓܝܪ ܪܘܚܐ ܥܕܠܐ ܗܘܝܐ ܡܕܥܟ ܠܗ̇
19 The way of the lazy is like a thorny hedge, the path of the honest is a broad highway.19 ܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܗܘܢ ܕܚ̈ܒܢܢܐ ܡ̈ܠܝܢ ܟܘ̈ܒܐ ܘܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܗܘܢ ܕܬܪ̈ܝܨܐ ܫ̈ܦܝܢ
20 A wise child is a father's joy; only a brute despises his mother.20 ܒܪܐ ܚܟܝܡܐ ܡܚܕܐ ܠܐܒܘܗܝ ܘܒܪܐ ܣܟܠܐ ܒܗܬܬܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܡܗ
21 Fol y appeals to someone without sense, a person of understanding goes straight forward.21 ܓܒܪܐ ܕܣܟܠ ܚܣܝܪ ܠܒܐ ܗܘ ܘܓܒܪܐ ܣܟܘܠܬܢܐ ܬܪܝܨܐܝܬ ܡܗܠܟ
22 Without deliberation plans come to nothing. Plans succeed where counsellors are many.22 ܡܥܒܪܝܢ ܡܚܫ̈ܒܬܐ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܝܩܪ̈ܝܢ ܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܘܒܣܘܓܐܐ ܕܡ̈ܠܟܝ ܡܠ̣ܟܐ ܬܬܩܝܡ
23 Anyone who has a ready answer has joy too: how satisfying is the apt reply!23 ܚܕܘܬܐ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܡܠܬܐ ܕܦܘܡܗ ܘܕܡܡܠܠ ܒܙܒܢܗ ܫܦܝܪ ܠܗ
24 For the prudent, the path of life leads upwards thus avoiding Sheol below.24 ܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܚ̈ܝܐ ܡܣܩܢܐ ܗܝ ܠܣܟܘܠܬܢܐ ܕܢܣܛܐ ܡܢ ܫܝܘܠ ܬܚܬܝܬܐ
25 Yahweh pulls down the house of the proud, but he keeps the widow's boundaries intact.25 ܒܝܬܐ ܕܫܒܗܪ̈ܢܐ ܥܩܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܬܚܘܡܐ ܕܐܪ̈ܡܠܬܐ ܡܫܪܪ
26 Wicked scheming is abhorrent to Yahweh, but words that are kind are pure.26 ܡܣ̈ܠܝܢ ܐܢܝ̈ܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܡܚ̈ܫܒܬܐ ܒܝܫ̈ܬܐ ܘܕܟܝ̈ܢ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܒܣ̈ܝܡܬܐ
27 Craving for dishonest gain brings trouble on a house, hatred of bribery earns life.27 ܡܘܒܕ ܢܦܫܗ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܡܩܒܠ ܫܘܚܕܐ ܘܕܣܢܐ ܠܡܣܒ ܫܘܚܕܐ ܚܝܐ
28 The heart of the upright reflects before answering, the mouth of the wicked spews out wickedness.28 ܠܒܗ ܕܙܕܝܩܐ ܪܢܐ ܒܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܘܦܘܡܐ ܕܥܘ̈ܠܐ ܡܡܠܠ ܒܝܫ̈ܬܐ
29 Yahweh keeps his distance from the wicked, but he listens to the prayers of the upright.29 ܪܚܝܩ ܗܘ ܡܪܝܐ ܡܢ ܥܘ̈ܠܐ ܘܒܨܠܘܬܐ ܕܙܕܝ̈ܩܐ ܫܡܥ
30 A kindly glance gives joy to the heart, good news lends strength to the bones.30 ܢܘܗܪܐ ܕܥܝ̈ܢܐ ܡܒܣܡ ܠܒܐ ܘܠܒܐ ܛܒܐ ܡܫܡܢ ܓܪ̈ܡܐ
31 The ear attentive to wholesome correction finds itself at home in the company of the wise.31 ܐܕܢܐ ܕܫܡܥܐ ܡܟܣܢܘܬܐ ܕܚ̈ܝܐ ܒܝ̈ܢܬ ܚ̈ܟܝܡܐ ܬܒܘܬ
32 Whoever rejects correction lacks self-respect, whoever accepts reproof grows in understanding.32 ܕܡܣܠܐ ܡܪܕܘܬܐ ܣܢܐ ܢܦܫܗ ܘܕܫܡܥ ܡܟܣܢܘܬܐ ܩܢܐ ܚܟܡܬܐ
33 The fear of Yahweh is a school of wisdom, before there can be glory, there must be humility.33 ܕܚܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܝܘܠܦܢܐ ܗܝ ܕܚ̈ܝܐ ܘܬܫܒܘܚܬܗ ܕܡܟܝܟܐ ܐܙܠܐ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ
