Proverbs 12

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Whoever loves discipline, loves knowledge, stupid are those who hate correction.	1 Aquele que ama a correção ama a ciência, mas o que detesta a reprimenda é um insensato.
2 The honest obtains Yahweh's favour, the schemer incurs his condemnation.	2 O homem de bem alcança a benevolência do Senhor; o Senhor condena o homem que premedita o mal.
3 No one is made secure by wickedness, but nothing shakes the roots of the upright.	3 Não se firma o homem pela impiedade, mas a raiz dos justos não será abalada.
4 A capable wife, her husband's crown, a shameless wife, a cancer in his bones.	4 Uma mulher virtuosa é a coroa de seu marido, mas a insolente é como a cárie nos seus ossos.
5 The plans of the upright are honest, the intrigues of the wicked are full of deceit.	5 Os pensamentos dos justos são cheios de retidão; as tramas dos perversos são cheias de dolo.
6 The words of the wicked are snares to shed blood, what the honest say keeps them safe.	6 As palavras dos ímpios são ciladas mortíferas, enquanto a boca dos justos os salva.
7 Once thrown down, the wicked are no more, but the house of the upright stands firm.	7 Transtornados, os ímpios não subsistirão, mas a casa dos justos permanecerá firme.
8 Prudence wins praise, but a tortuous heart incurs only contempt.	8 Avalia-se um homem segundo a sua inteligência, mas o perverso de coração incorrerá em desprezo.
9 Better a common fel ow who has a slave than someone who gives himself airs and has nothing to eat.	9 Mais vale um homem humilde, que tem um servo, que o jactancioso, que não tem o que comer.
10 The upright has compassion on his animals, but the heart of the wicked is ruthless.	10 O justo cuida das necessidades do seu gado, mas cruéis são as entranhas do ímpio.
11 Whoever works his land shall have bread and to spare, but no one who chases fantasies has anysense.	11 Quem cultiva sua terra será saciado de pão; quem procura as futilidades é um insensato.
12 The godless delights in the snare of the wicked, but the root of the upright bears fruit.	12 O ímpio cobiça o laço do perverso, mas a raiz do justo produz fruto.
13 In the sin of the lips lies a disastrous trap, but the upright finds a way out of misfortune.	13 No pecado dos lábios há uma cilada funesta, mas o justo livra-se da angústia.
14 Abundance of good things is the fruit of the lips; labour brings its own return.	14 O homem se farta com o fruto de sua boca; cada qual recebe a recompensa da obra de suas mãos.
15 Fools think the way they go is straight, the wise listens to advice.	15 Ao insensato parece reto seu caminho, enquanto o sábio ouve os conselhos.
16 The fool shows anger straightaway, the discreet conceals dislike.	16 O louco mostra logo a sua irritação; o circunspecto dissimula o ultraje.
17 To tel the truth is to further justice, a false witness is nothing but deceit.	17 O homem sincero anuncia a justiça; a testemunha falsa profere mentira.
18 Thoughtless words can wound like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.	18 O falador fere com golpes de espada; a língua dos sábios, porém, cura.
19 Sincere lips endure for ever, the lying tongue lasts only a moment.	19 Os lábios sinceros permanecem sempre constantes; a língua mentirosa dura como um abrir e fechar de olhos.
20 Deceit is in the heart of the schemer, joy with those who give counsels of peace.	20 No coração dos que tramam males há engano; a alegria está naqueles que dão conselhos de paz.
21 No harm can come to the upright, but the wicked are swamped by misfortunes.	21 Ao justo nenhum mal pode abater, mas os maus enchem-se de tristezas.
22 Lying lips are abhorrent to Yahweh; dear to him those who make truth their way of life.	22 Os lábios mentirosos são abominação para o Senhor, mas os que procedem com fidelidade agradam-lhe.
23 The discreet keeps knowledge hidden, the heart of fools proclaims their folly.	23 O homem prudente oculta sua sabedoria; o coração dos insensatos proclama sua própria loucura.
24 For the diligent hand, authority; for the slack hand, forced labour.	24 A mão diligente dominará; a mão preguiçosa torna-se tributária.
25 Worry makes a heart heavy, a kindly word makes it glad.	25 A aflição no coração do homem o deprime; uma boa palavra restitui-lhe a alegria.
26 The upright shows the way to a friend; the way of the wicked leads them astray.	26 O justo guia seu companheiro, mas o caminho dos ímpios os perde.
27 The idle has no game to roast; diligence is anyone's most precious possession.	27 O indolente não assa o que caçou; um homem diligente, porém, é um tesouro valioso.
28 In the way of uprightness is life, the ways of the vengeful lead to death.	28 A vida está na vereda da justiça; o caminho do ódio, porém, conduz à morte.
