Proverbs 12

1 Whoever loves discipline, loves knowledge, stupid are those who hate correction.	1 Wer Zucht liebt, liebt Erkenntnis, wer Zurechtweisung hasst, ist dumm.
2 The honest obtains Yahweh's favour, the schemer incurs his condemnation.	2 Der Gute findet Gefallen beim Herrn, den Heimtückischen aber spricht er schuldig.
3 No one is made secure by wickedness, but nothing shakes the roots of the upright.	3 Wer unrecht tut, hat keinen Bestand, doch die Wurzel der Gerechten sitzt fest.
4 A capable wife, her husband's crown, a shameless wife, a cancer in his bones.	4 Eine tüchtige Frau ist die Krone ihres Mannes, eine schändliche ist wie Fäulnis in seinen Knochen.
5 The plans of the upright are honest, the intrigues of the wicked are full of deceit.	5 Die Gedanken der Gerechten trachten nach Recht, die Pläne der Frevler sind auf Betrug aus.
6 The words of the wicked are snares to shed blood, what the honest say keeps them safe.	6 Die Reden der Frevler sind ein Lauern auf Blut, die Redlichen rettet ihr Mund.
7 Once thrown down, the wicked are no more, but the house of the upright stands firm.	7 Die Frevler werden gestürzt und sind dahin, das Haus der Gerechten hat Bestand.
8 Prudence wins praise, but a tortuous heart incurs only contempt.	8 Nach dem Maß seiner Klugheit wird ein jeder gelobt, verkehrter Sinn fällt der Verachtung anheim.
9 Better a common fel ow who has a slave than someone who gives himself airs and has nothing to eat.	9 Besser unbeachtet bleiben und seine Arbeit verrichten, als großtun und kein Brot haben.
10 The upright has compassion on his animals, but the heart of the wicked is ruthless.	10 Der Gerechte weiß, was sein Vieh braucht, doch das Herz der Frevler ist hart.
11 Whoever works his land shall have bread and to spare, but no one who chases fantasies has anysense.	11 Wer sein Feld bestellt, wird satt von Brot, wer nichtigen Dingen nachjagt, ist ohne Verstand.
12 The godless delights in the snare of the wicked, but the root of the upright bears fruit.	12 Schwankender Lehm ist die Burg der Bösen, die Wurzel der Gerechten hat festen Grund.
13 In the sin of the lips lies a disastrous trap, but the upright finds a way out of misfortune.	13 Der Böse verfängt sich im Lügengespinst, der Gerechte entkommt der Bedrängnis.
14 Abundance of good things is the fruit of the lips; labour brings its own return.	14 Von der Frucht seines Mundes wird der Mensch reichlich gesättigt, nach dem Tun seiner Hände wird ihm vergolten.
15 Fools think the way they go is straight, the wise listens to advice.	15 Der Tor hält sein eigenes Urteil für richtig, der Weise aber hört auf Rat.
16 The fool shows anger straightaway, the discreet conceals dislike.	16 Der Tor zeigt sogleich seinen Ärger, klug ist, wer Schimpfworte einsteckt.
17 To tel the truth is to further justice, a false witness is nothing but deceit.	17 Wer Wahrheit spricht, sagt aus, was recht ist, der falsche Zeuge aber betrügt.
18 Thoughtless words can wound like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.	18 Mancher Leute Gerede verletzt wie Schwertstiche, die Zunge der Weisen bringt Heilung.
19 Sincere lips endure for ever, the lying tongue lasts only a moment.	19 Ein Mund, der die Wahrheit sagt, hat für immer Bestand, eine lügnerische Zunge nur einen Augenblick.
20 Deceit is in the heart of the schemer, joy with those who give counsels of peace.	20 Wer auf Böses sinnt, betrügt sich selbst, wer heilsamen Rat gibt, erntet Freude.
21 No harm can come to the upright, but the wicked are swamped by misfortunes.	21 Kein Unheil trifft den Gerechten, doch die Frevler erdrückt das Unglück.
22 Lying lips are abhorrent to Yahweh; dear to him those who make truth their way of life.	22 Lügnerische Lippen sind dem Herrn ein Gräuel, doch wer zuverlässig ist in seinem Tun, der gefällt ihm.
23 The discreet keeps knowledge hidden, the heart of fools proclaims their folly.	23 Ein kluger Mensch verbirgt sein Wissen, das Herz der Toren schreit die Narrheit hinaus.
24 For the diligent hand, authority; for the slack hand, forced labour.	24 Die Hand der Fleißigen erringt die Herrschaft, die lässige Hand muss Frondienste leisten.
25 Worry makes a heart heavy, a kindly word makes it glad.	25 Kummer im Herzen bedrückt den Menschen, ein gutes Wort aber heitert ihn auf.
26 The upright shows the way to a friend; the way of the wicked leads them astray.	26 Der Gerechte findet fette Weide, der Weg der Frevler führt in die Irre.
27 The idle has no game to roast; diligence is anyone's most precious possession.	27 Bequemlichkeit erjagt sich kein Wild, kostbare Güter erlangt der Fleißige.
28 In the way of uprightness is life, the ways of the vengeful lead to death.	28 Der Pfad der Gerechtigkeit führt zum Leben, der Weg der Abtrünnigen führt zum Tod.
