1 Whoever loves discipline, loves knowledge, stupid are those who hate correction.	1 Chi ama la disciplina, ama la scienza; ma chi odia la correzione e un insensato.
2 The honest obtains Yahweh's favour, the schemer incurs his condemnation.	2 L'uomo dabbene si caparrerà la grazia del Signore; ma chi si confida nelle sue invenzioni opera da empio.
3 No one is made secure by wickedness, but nothing shakes the roots of the upright.	3 Non acquisterà fermezza l'uomo per mezzo della empietà; ma sarà immobile, la radice de' giusti.
4 A capable wife, her husband's crown, a shameless wife, a cancer in his bones.	4 La valorosa donna è la corona di suo marito: quella che fa azioni obbrobriose è un tarlo nelle ossa di lui.
5 The plans of the upright are honest, the intrigues of the wicked are full of deceit.	5 I pensieri de' giusti sono giustizia: i consiglj degli empj son fraude.
6 The words of the wicked are snares to shed blood, what the honest say keeps them safe.	6 Le parole degli empj sono insidie tese alla vita degli altri: ma a questi porterà salute la bocca de' giusti,
7 Once thrown down, the wicked are no more, but the house of the upright stands firm.	7 Volgi in giro gli empj, ed ei più non saranno; ma stabile sarà la casa del giusto.
8 Prudence wins praise, but a tortuous heart incurs only contempt.	8 Colla sua dottrina si farà conoscere l'uomo; ma colui che è vano, e privo di cuore, sarà esposto agli spregj.
9 Better a common fel ow who has a slave than someone who gives himself airs and has nothing to eat.	9 Più stimabile o il povero, che basta a se stesso; che un vanaglorioso a cui manca il pane.
10 The upright has compassion on his animals, but the heart of the wicked is ruthless.	10 Il giusto ha cura della vita delle sue bestie; ma le viscere degli empj sono crudeli.
11 Whoever works his land shall have bread and to spare, but no one who chases fantasies has anysense.	11 Colui che lavora la sua terra, avrà pane da saziarsi; ma chi ama l'ozio, è più che stolto. Chi trova piacere a star dove si sbevazza, lascia vituperi nella ben piantata sua casa.
12 The godless delights in the snare of the wicked, but the root of the upright bears fruit.	12 Il desiderio degli empj si è, che si faccian forti i peggiori: ma la radice de' giusti germoglierà.
13 In the sin of the lips lies a disastrous trap, but the upright finds a way out of misfortune.	13 Co' peccati della lingua si tira addosso la rovina il malvaggio: ma il giusto fuggirà dalle angustie.
14 Abundance of good things is the fruit of the lips; labour brings its own return.	14 L'uomo in virtù de' frutti della sua bocca sarà ricolmo di beni: e avrà, guiderdone secondo le opere delle sue mani.
15 Fools think the way they go is straight, the wise listens to advice.	15 La via dello stolto è diritta negli occhi di lui: ma colui, che è saggio, da retta ai consigli.
16 The fool shows anger straightaway, the discreet conceals dislike.	16 Lo stolto da tosto fuora il suo sdegno; ma chi dissimula l'ingiuria, è uom circospetto.
17 To tel the truth is to further justice, a false witness is nothing but deceit.	17 Colui che afferma quello, ch'ei sa, da segni di annunziare il giusto: colui che mentisce, attesta la propria fraude.
18 Thoughtless words can wound like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.	18 Taluno fa una promessa, e rimane punto dalla coscienza, come da coltello: ma la lingua dei sapienti è santità.
19 Sincere lips endure for ever, the lying tongue lasts only a moment.	19 La bocca di verità sarà sempre costante: ma il testimone temerario si forma un linguaggio di menzogne.
20 Deceit is in the heart of the schemer, joy with those who give counsels of peace.	20 Sta la fraude nel cuore di chi macchina il male: ma a quelli, che ruminano consigli di pace, va dietro il gaudio.
21 No harm can come to the upright, but the wicked are swamped by misfortunes.	21 Non sarà contristato il giusto per qualunque cosa che gli avvenga: ma gli empj saranno sempre in guai.
22 Lying lips are abhorrent to Yahweh; dear to him those who make truth their way of life.	22 Il Signore ha in abominazione le labbra menzognere: ma quelli, che operano con schiettezza, son grati a lui.
23 The discreet keeps knowledge hidden, the heart of fools proclaims their folly.	23 L'uomo cauto nasconde quello, che sa: e il cuore degli stolti butta fuora la sua stoltezza.
24 For the diligent hand, authority; for the slack hand, forced labour.	24 La mano dei forti dominerà; ma la mano infingarda pagherà il tributo.
25 Worry makes a heart heavy, a kindly word makes it glad.	25 L'afflizione del cuore umilia l'uomo, e le buone parole lo rallegrano.
26 The upright shows the way to a friend; the way of the wicked leads them astray.	26 Chi per amor dell'amico non fa caso di patir danno, egli è giusto; ma il fare stesso degli empj li gabberà.
27 The idle has no game to roast; diligence is anyone's most precious possession.	27 Non farà guadagno l'uom fraudolento e le facoltà dell'uomo accurato saranno oro prezioso.
28 In the way of uprightness is life, the ways of the vengeful lead to death.	28 Ne' sentieri della giustizia sta la vita: ma la strada fuori di mano conduce a morte.
