1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise child is a father's joy, a foolish child a mother's grief.	1 Розумний син звеселяє батька; | а син безумний — горе матері своєї.
2 Treasures wickedly come by give no benefit, but uprightness brings delivery from death.	2 Скарби, неправдою набуті, не дають користи; | справедливість від смерти рятує.
3 Yahweh does not let the upright go hungry, but he thwarts the greed of the wicked.	3 Господь не дасть праведникові голодувати; | жадливість злих він геть відкине.
4 A slack hand brings poverty, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.	4 Рука ледача робить бідним; | збагачує — рука старанних.
5 Reaping at harvest-time is the mark of the prudent, sleeping at harvest-time is the sign of theworthless.	5 Розумний чоловік збирає літом; | син безсоромний спить у жнива.
6 Blessings are on the head of the upright, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence.	6 Благословення над головою праведника; | уста безбожних таять насильство.
7 The upright is remembered with blessings, the name of the wicked rots away.	7 Пам’ять праведника буде благословенна, | ім’я ж безбожника струхлявіє.
8 The wise of heart takes orders, but a gabbling fool heads for ruin.	8 Мудрий серцем приймає заповіді, | а безумний балакун близький погибелі.
9 Anyone whose ways are honourable walks secure, but whoever fol ows crooked ways is soonunmasked.	9 Хто чесно ходить, той ходить безпечно; | хто крутить дорогою, той упіймається.
10 A wink of the eye brings trouble, a bold rebuke brings peace.	10 Хто мружить очі, завдає прикрости, | хто ж докоряє увічі, той творить мир.
11 The mouth of the upright is a life-giving fountain, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence.	11 Уста праведного — джерело життя, | уста ж безбожного таять насильство.
12 Hatred provokes disputes, but love excuses al offences.	12 Ненависть сварки роздуває, | а любов гріхи всі покриває.
13 On the lips of the discerning is found wisdom, on the back of a fool, the stick.	13 В устах розумного перебуває мудрість, | — києм же по спині недоумка.
14 Wise people store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool makes ruin imminent.	14 Мудрі збирають знання, | уста ж дурного — близька погибель.
15 The wealth of the rich is their stronghold, poverty is the undoing of the weak.	15 Майно багатого — його фортеця | нещастя бідних — їхні злидні.
16 The wage of the upright affords life, but sin is al the wicked earns.	16 Праця праведного йде на прожиток, | безбожного заробіток — на погибель.
17 Whoever abides by discipline, walks towards life, whoever ignores correction goes astray.	17 Стежка життя — берегти науку; | хто відкидає картання, — ходить манівцями.
18 Liars' lips are a cover for hatred, whoever utters slander is a fool.	18 Уста правдиві ненависть закривають; | хто розсіває обмову, той дурний.
19 A flood of words is never without fault; whoever controls the lips is wise.	19 В багатомовності гріха не бракуватиме; | хто стримує язик, той розумний.
20 The tongue of the upright is purest silver, the heart of the wicked is of trumpery value.	20 Язик праведника — добірне срібло, | серце ж безбожних — низької вартости.
21 The lips of the upright nourish many peoples, but fools die for want of sense.	21 Уста праведного багатьох годують, | а дурні через брак розуму вмирають.
22 The blessing of Yahweh is what brings riches, to this, hard toil has nothing to add.	22 Господнє благословення саме збагачує, | як не збагачує жадна праця.
23 A fool takes pleasure in doing wrong, the intel igent in cultivating wisdom.	23 Чинити зло — для безумного неначе забава; | розумній же людині — мудрість.
24 What the wicked fears overtakes him, what the upright desires comes to him as a present.	24 Чого боїться злий те й спадає на нього; | бажання праведних здійсниться.
25 When the storm is over, the wicked is no more, but the upright stands firm for ever.	25 Як буря понесеться, безбожний щезне; | а в праведного довічна основа.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, smoke to the eyes, so the sluggard to the one who sends him.	26 Що зубам оцет і очам дим, | те ледачий тим, які його посилають.
27 The fear of Yahweh adds length to life, the years of the wicked wil be cut short.	27 Господній острах днів додає, | літа ж безбожних скоротяться.
28 The hope of the upright is joy, the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.	28 Надія праведних — радість, | а сподівання лихих — погубне.
29 The way of Yahweh is a rampart for the honest, for evil-doers nothing but ruin.	29 Господня путь для праведника кріпость, | погибель тим, хто чинить зло.
30 The upright wil never have to give way, but the land wil offer no home for the wicked.	30 Повіки праведник не похитнеться, | безбожники ж не населюватимуть землю.
31 The mouth of the upright utters wisdom, the tongue that deceives wil be cut off.	31 Уста праведника породжують мудрість, | язик розпусний буде відтятий.
32 The lips of the upright know about kindness, the mouth of the wicked about deceit.	32 З уст праведного тече ласка; | з уст грішників — розпуста.
