Proverbs 10

NEW JERUSALEM	LXX
1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise child is a father's joy, a foolish child a mother's grief.	1 υιος σοφος ευφραινει πατερα υιος δε αφρων λυπη τη μητρι
2 Treasures wickedly come by give no benefit, but uprightness brings delivery from death.	2 ουκ ωφελησουσιν θησαυροι ανομους δικαιοσυνη δε ρυσεται εκ θανατου
3 Yahweh does not let the upright go hungry, but he thwarts the greed of the wicked.	3 ου λιμοκτονησει κυριος ψυχην δικαιαν ζωην δε ασεβων ανατρεψει
4 A slack hand brings poverty, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.	4 πενια ανδρα ταπεινοι χειρες δε ανδρειων πλουτιζουσιν [4α] υιος πεπαιδευμενος σοφος εσται τω δε αφρονι διακονω χρησεται
5 Reaping at harvest-time is the mark of the prudent, sleeping at harvest-time is the sign of theworthless.	5 διεσωθη απο καυματος υιος νοημων ανεμοφθορος δε γινεται εν αμητω υιος παρανομος
6 Blessings are on the head of the upright, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence.	6 ευλογια κυριου επι κεφαλην δικαιου στομα δε ασεβων καλυψει πενθος αωρον
7 The upright is remembered with blessings, the name of the wicked rots away.	7 μνημη δικαιων μετ' εγκωμιων ονομα δε ασεβους σβεννυται
8 The wise of heart takes orders, but a gabbling fool heads for ruin.	8 σοφος καρδια δεξεται εντολας ο δε αστεγος χειλεσιν σκολιαζων υποσκελισθησεται
9 Anyone whose ways are honourable walks secure, but whoever fol ows crooked ways is soonunmasked.	9 ος πορευεται απλως πορευεται πεποιθως ο δε διαστρεφων τας οδους αυτου γνωσθησεται
10 A wink of the eye brings trouble, a bold rebuke brings peace.	10 ο εννευων οφθαλμοις μετα δολου συναγει ανδρασι λυπας ο δε ελεγχων μετα παρρησιας ειρηνοποιει
11 The mouth of the upright is a life-giving fountain, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence.	11 πηγη ζωης εν χειρι δικαιου στομα δε ασεβους καλυψει απωλεια
12 Hatred provokes disputes, but love excuses al offences.	12 μισος εγειρει νεικος παντας δε τους μη φιλονεικουντας καλυπτει φιλια
13 On the lips of the discerning is found wisdom, on the back of a fool, the stick.	13 ος εκ χειλεων προφερει σοφιαν ραβδω τυπτει ανδρα ακαρδιον
14 Wise people store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool makes ruin imminent.	14 σοφοι κρυψουσιν αισθησιν στομα δε προπετους εγγιζει συντριβη
15 The wealth of the rich is their stronghold, poverty is the undoing of the weak.	15 κτησις πλουσιων πολις οχυρα συντριβη δε ασεβων πενια
16 The wage of the upright affords life, but sin is al the wicked earns.	16 εργα δικαιων ζωην ποιει καρποι δε ασεβων αμαρτιας
17 Whoever abides by discipline, walks towards life, whoever ignores correction goes astray.	17 οδους δικαιας ζωης φυλασσει παιδεια παιδεια δε ανεξελεγκτος πλαναται
18 Liars' lips are a cover for hatred, whoever utters slander is a fool.	18 καλυπτουσιν εχθραν χειλη δικαια οι δε εκφεροντες λοιδοριας αφρονεστατοι εισιν
19 A flood of words is never without fault; whoever controls the lips is wise.	19 εκ πολυλογιας ουκ εκφευξη αμαρτιαν φειδομενος δε χειλεων νοημων εση
20 The tongue of the upright is purest silver, the heart of the wicked is of trumpery value.	20 αργυρος πεπυρωμενος γλωσσα δικαιου καρδια δε ασεβους εκλειψει
21 The lips of the upright nourish many peoples, but fools die for want of sense.	21 χειλη δικαιων επισταται υψηλα οι δε αφρονες εν ενδεια τελευτωσιν
22 The blessing of Yahweh is what brings riches, to this, hard toil has nothing to add.	22 ευλογια κυριου επι κεφαλην δικαιου αυτη πλουτιζει και ου μη προστεθη αυτη λυπη εν καρδια
23 A fool takes pleasure in doing wrong, the intel igent in cultivating wisdom.	23 εν γελωτι αφρων πρασσει κακα η δε σοφια ανδρι τικτει φρονησιν
24 What the wicked fears overtakes him, what the upright desires comes to him as a present.	24 εν απωλεια ασεβης περιφερεται επιθυμια δε δικαιου δεκτη
25 When the storm is over, the wicked is no more, but the upright stands firm for ever.	25 παραπορευομενης καταιγιδος αφανιζεται ασεβης δικαιος δε εκκλινας σωζεται εις τον αιωνα
26 As vinegar to the teeth, smoke to the eyes, so the sluggard to the one who sends him.	26 ωσπερ ομφαξ οδουσι βλαβερον και καπνος ομμασιν ουτως παρανομια τοις χρωμενοις αυτην
27 The fear of Yahweh adds length to life, the years of the wicked wil be cut short.	27 φοβος κυριου προστιθησιν ημερας ετη δε ασεβων ολιγωθησεται
28 The hope of the upright is joy, the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.	28 εγχρονιζει δικαιοις ευφροσυνη ελπις δε ασεβων ολλυται
29 The way of Yahweh is a rampart for the honest, for evil-doers nothing but ruin.	29 οχυρωμα οσιου φοβος κυριου συντριβη δε τοις εργαζομενοις κακα
30 The upright wil never have to give way, but the land wil offer no home for the wicked.	30 δικαιος τον αιωνα ουκ ενδωσει ασεβεις δε ουκ οικησουσιν γην
31 The mouth of the upright utters wisdom, the tongue that deceives wil be cut off.	31 στομα δικαιου αποσταζει σοφιαν γλωσσα δε αδικου εξολειται
32 The lips of the upright know about kindness, the mouth of the wicked about deceit.	32 χειλη ανδρων δικαιων αποσταζει χαριτας στομα δε ασεβων αποστρεφεται
