Proverbs 10

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise child is a father's joy, a foolish child a mother's grief.	1 O filho sábio é a alegria de seu pai; o insensato, porém, a aflição de sua mãe.
2 Treasures wickedly come by give no benefit, but uprightness brings delivery from death.	2 Tesouros mal adquiridos de nada servem, mas a justiça livra da morte.
3 Yahweh does not let the upright go hungry, but he thwarts the greed of the wicked.	3 O Senhor não deixa o justo passar fome, mas repele a cobiça do ímpio.
4 A slack hand brings poverty, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.	4 A mão preguiçosa causa a indigência; a mão diligente se enriquece.
5 Reaping at harvest-time is the mark of the prudent, sleeping at harvest-time is the sign of theworthless.	5 Quem recolhe no verão é um filho prudente; quem dorme na ceifa merece a vergonha.
6 Blessings are on the head of the upright, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence.	6 As bênçãos descansam sobre a cabeça do justo, mas a boca dos maus oculta a injustiça.
7 The upright is remembered with blessings, the name of the wicked rots away.	7 A memória do justo alcança as bênçãos; o nome dos ímpios apodrecerá.
8 The wise of heart takes orders, but a gabbling fool heads for ruin.	8 O sábio de coração recebe os preceitos, mas o insensato caminha para a ruína.
9 Anyone whose ways are honourable walks secure, but whoever fol ows crooked ways is soonunmasked.	9 Quem anda na integridade caminha com segurança, mas quem emprega astúcias será descoberto.
10 A wink of the eye brings trouble, a bold rebuke brings peace.	10 Quem pisca os olhos traz desgosto, mas o que repreende com franqueza procura a paz.
11 The mouth of the upright is a life-giving fountain, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence.	11 A boca do justo é uma fonte de vida; a do ímpio, porém, esconde injustiça.
12 Hatred provokes disputes, but love excuses al offences.	12 O ódio desperta rixas; a caridade, porém, supre todas as faltas.
13 On the lips of the discerning is found wisdom, on the back of a fool, the stick.	13 Nos lábios do sábio encontra-se a sabedoria; no dorso do insensato a correção.
14 Wise people store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool makes ruin imminent.	14 Os sábios entesouram a sabedoria, mas a boca do tolo é uma desgraça sempre ameaçadora.
15 The wealth of the rich is their stronghold, poverty is the undoing of the weak.	15 A fortuna do rico é a sua cidade forte; a pobreza dos indigentes ocasiona-lhes ruína.
16 The wage of the upright affords life, but sin is al the wicked earns.	16 O salário do justo é para a vida; o fruto do ímpio produz o pecado.
17 Whoever abides by discipline, walks towards life, whoever ignores correction goes astray.	17 O que observa a disciplina está no caminho da vida; anda errado o que esquece a repressão.
18 Liars' lips are a cover for hatred, whoever utters slander is a fool.	18 Quem dissimula o ódio é um mistificador; um insensato o que profere calúnias.
19 A flood of words is never without fault; whoever controls the lips is wise.	19 Não pode faltar o pecado num caudal de palavras; quem modera os lábios é um homem prudente.
20 The tongue of the upright is purest silver, the heart of the wicked is of trumpery value.	20 A língua do justo é prata finíssima; o coração dos maus, porém, para nada serve.
21 The lips of the upright nourish many peoples, but fools die for want of sense.	21 Os lábios dos justos nutrem a muitos; mas os néscios perecem por falta de inteligência.
22 The blessing of Yahweh is what brings riches, to this, hard toil has nothing to add.	22 É a bênção do Senhor que enriquece; o labor nada acrescenta a ela.
23 A fool takes pleasure in doing wrong, the intel igent in cultivating wisdom.	23 É um divertimento para o ímpio praticar o mal; e para o sensato, ser sábio.
24 What the wicked fears overtakes him, what the upright desires comes to him as a present.	24 O que receia o mal, este cai sobre ele. O desejo do justo lhe é concedido.
25 When the storm is over, the wicked is no more, but the upright stands firm for ever.	25 Quando passa a tormenta, desaparece o perverso, mas o justo descansa sobre fundamentos duráveis.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, smoke to the eyes, so the sluggard to the one who sends him.	26 Como o vinagre nos dentes e a fumaça nos olhos, assim é o preguiçoso para os que o mandam.
27 The fear of Yahweh adds length to life, the years of the wicked wil be cut short.	27 O temor do Senhor prolonga os dias, mas os anos dos ímpios serão abreviados.
28 The hope of the upright is joy, the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.	28 A expectativa dos justos causa alegria; a esperança dos ímpios, porém, perecerá.
29 The way of Yahweh is a rampart for the honest, for evil-doers nothing but ruin.	29 Para o homem íntegro o Senhor é uma fortaleza, mas é a ruína dos que fazem o mal.
30 The upright wil never have to give way, but the land wil offer no home for the wicked.	30 Jamais o justo será abalado, mas os ímpios não habitarão a terra.
31 The mouth of the upright utters wisdom, the tongue that deceives wil be cut off.	31 A boca do justo produz sabedoria, mas a língua perversa será arrancada.
32 The lips of the upright know about kindness, the mouth of the wicked about deceit.	32 Os lábios do justo sabem dizer o que é agradável; a boca dos maus, o que é mal.
