[For the choirmaster Psalm Of David Song] Praise is rightful y yours, God, in Zion. Vows to you shallbe fulfil ed, | 1 For the leader. A psalm of David. A song. |
for you answer prayer. All humanity must come to you | 2 To you we owe our hymn of praise, O God on Zion; To you our vows must be fulfilled, |
with its sinful deeds. Our faults overwhelm us, but you blot them out. | 3 you who hear our prayers. To you all flesh must come |
How blessed those whom you choose and invite to dwell in your courts. We shal be filled with thegood things of your house, of your holy temple. | 4 with its burden of wicked deeds. We are overcome by our sins; only you can pardon them. |
You respond to us with the marvels of your saving justice, God our Saviour, hope of the whole wideworld, even the distant islands. | 5 Happy the chosen ones you bring to dwell in your courts. May we be filled with the good things of your house, the blessings of your holy temple! |
By your strength you hold the mountains steady, being clothed in power, | 6 You answer us with awesome deeds of justice, O God our savior, The hope of all the ends of the earth and of far distant islands. |
you calm the turmoil of the seas, the turmoil of their waves. The nations are in uproar, in panic thosewho live at the ends of the earth; | 7 You are robed in power, you set up the mountains by your might. |
your miracles bring shouts of joy to the gateways of morning and evening. | 8 You still the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples. |
You visit the earth and make it fruitful, you fill it with riches; the river of God brims over with water, youprovide the grain. To that end | 9 Distant peoples stand in awe of your marvels; east and west you make resound with joy. |
you water its furrows abundantly, level its ridges, soften it with showers and bless its shoots. | 10 You visit the earth and water it, make it abundantly fertile. God's stream is filled with water; with it you supply the world with grain. Thus do you prepare the earth: |
You crown the year with your generosity, richness seeps from your tracks, | 11 you drench plowed furrows, and level their ridges. With showers you keep the ground soft, blessing its young sprouts. |
the pastures of the desert grow moist, the hillsides are wrapped in joy, | 12 You adorn the year with your bounty; your paths drip with fruitful rain. |
the meadows are covered with flocks, the val eys clothed with wheat; they shout and sing for joy. | 13 The untilled meadows also drip; the hills are robed with joy. |
The pastures are clothed with flocks, the valleys blanketed with grain; they cheer and sing for joy. |
