NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Do you know when mountain goats give birth? Have you ever watched deer in labour?	1 ¿Sabes cuándo hacen las rebecas sus crías? ¿has observado el parto de las ciervas?
2 Have you ever counted the months that they carry their young? Do you know when they give birth?	2 ¿has contado los meses de su gestación? ¿sabes la época de su alumbramiento?
3 They crouch to drop their young, they get rid of their burdens	3 Entonces se acurrucan y paren a sus crías, echan fuera su camada.
4 and the calves, having grown big and strong, go off into the desert and never come back to them.	4 Y cuando ya sus crías se hacen fuertes y grandes, salen al desierto y no vuelven más a ellas.
5 Who has given the wild donkey his freedom, who has undone the harness of the brayer?	5 ¿Quién dejó al onagro en libertad y soltó las amarras del asno salvaje?
6 I have given him the wastelands as his home, the salt plain as his habitat.	6 Yo le he dado la estepa por morada, por mansión la tierra salitrosa.
7 He scorns the turmoil of the town, obeys no donkey-man's shouts.	7 Se ríe del tumulto de las ciudades, no oye los gritos del arriero;
8 The mountains are the pastures that he ranges in quest of anything green.	8 explora las montañas, pasto suyo, en busca de toda hierba verde.
9 Is the wild ox willing to serve you or spend a night beside your manger?	9 ¿Querrá acaso servirte el buey salvaje, pasar la noche junto a tu pesebre?
10 If you tie a rope round his neck wil he harrow the furrows for you?	10 ¿Atarás a su cuello la coyunda? ¿rastrillará los surcos tras de ti?
11 Can you rely on his massive strength and leave him to do your heavy work?	11 ¿Puedes fiarte de él por su gran fuerza? ¿le confiarás tu menester?
12 Can you depend on him to come home and pile your grain on your threshing-floor?	12 ¿Estás seguro de que vuelva, de que en tu era allegue el grano?
13 Can the wing of the ostrich be compared with the plumage of stork or falcon?	13 El ala del avestruz, ¿se puede comparar al plumaje de la cigüeña y del halcón?
14 She leaves her eggs on the ground with only earth to warm them;	14 Ella en tierra abandona sus huevos, en el suelo los deja calentarse;
15 forgetting that a foot may tread on them or a wild animal crush them.	15 se olvida de que puede aplastarlos algún pie, o cascarlos una fiera salvaje.
16 Cruel to her chicks as if they were not hers, little she cares if her labour goes for nothing.	16 Dura para sus hijos cual si no fueran suyos, por un afán inútil no se inquieta.
17 God, you see, has deprived her of wisdom and given her no share of intel igence.	17 Es que Dios la privó de sabiduría, y no le dotó de inteligencia.
18 Yet, if she bestirs herself to use her height, she can make fools of horse and rider too.	18 Pero en cuanto se alza y se remonta, se ríe del caballo y su jinete.
19 Are you the one who makes the horse so brave and covers his neck with flowing mane?	19 ¿Das tú al caballo la bravura? ¿revistes su cuello de tremolante crin?
20 Do you make him leap like a grasshopper? His haughty neighing inspires terror.	20 ¿Le haces brincar como langosta? ¡Terror infunde su relincho altanero!
21 Exultantly he paws the soil of the val ey, and charges the battle-line in all his strength.	21 Piafa de júbilo en el valle, con brío se lanza al encuentro de las armas.
22 He laughs at fear; he is afraid of nothing, he recoils before no sword.	22 Se ríe del miedo y de nada se asusta, no retrocede ante la espada.
23 On his back the quiver rattles, the flashing spear and javelin.	23 Va resonando sobre él la aljaba, la llama de la lanza y el dardo.
24 Trembling with impatience, he eats up the miles; when the trumpet sounds, there is no holding him.	24 Hirviendo de impaciencia la tierra devora, no se contiene cuando suena la trompeta.
25 At each trumpet blast he neighs exultantly. He scents the battle from afar, the thundering of thecommanders and the war cry.	25 A cada toque de trompeta dice: «¡Aah!» olfatea de lejos el combate, las voces de mando y los clamores.
26 Is it your wisdom that sets the hawk flying when he spreads his wings to travel south?	26 ¿Acaso por tu acuerdo el halcón emprende el vuelo, despliega sus alas hacia el sur?
27 Does the eagle soar at your command to make her eyrie in the heights?	27 ¿Por orden tuya se remonta el águila y coloca su nido en las alturas?
28 She spends her nights among the crags with a needle of rock as her fortress,	28 Pone en la roca su mansión nocturna, su fortaleza en un picacho.
29 from which she watches for prey, fixing it with her far-ranging eye.	29 Desde allí acecha a su presa, desde lejos la divisan sus ojos.
30 Even her young drink blood; where anyone has been killed, she is there.	30 Sus crías lamen sangre; donde hay muertos, allí está.
