Job 37

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 At this, my very heart quakes and leaps out of its place.	1 « Per questo il mio cuore tremò e balzò fuori dal suo posto.
2 Listen, oh listen, to the blast of his voice and the sound that issues from his mouth.	2 Udite, udite tra lo spavento la sua voce, e il rombo che vien fuori dalla sua bocca!
3 His lightning is hurled across the heaven, it strikes to the extremities of earth.	3 Egli gira il suo sguardo sotto tutti i cieli, e la sua luce va fino all'estremità della terra.
4 After it comes a roaring sound, God thunders with majestic voice. He does not check his thunderboltsuntil his voice resounds no more.	4 Dietro di lui rugge il suono, egli tuona colla voce della sua grandezza; e udita la sua voce, non si potrà seguirne la traccia.
5 Yes, certainly God shows us marvels and does great deeds that we cannot understand.	5 Dio tonerà mirabilmente colla sua voce. Egli fa grandi e imperscrutabili cose.
6 When he says to the snow, 'Fal on the earth!' to the showers, 'Now rain hard!'	6 Egli comanda alla neve di cadere sulla terra, alle piogge invernali, alle impetuose procelle.
7 he brings al human activity to a standstil , for everyone to acknowledge his work.	7 Egli mette un sigillo sulla mano d'ogni uomo, affinchè ciascuno conosca le sue opere.
8 The animals go back to their dens and take shelter in their lairs.	8 La fiera si ritira nella sua tana, e sta ferma nel suo covile.
9 The storm wind comes from the Mansion of the South, and the north winds usher in the cold.	9 La tempesta esce dai recessi, il freddo dal settentrione.
10 At the breath of God, ice comes next, the surface of the waters hardens over.	10 Al soffio di Dio il ghiaccio s'indurisce, e di nuovo si sciolgono in abbondanza le nevi,
11 He weighs the clouds down with moisture, and the storm clouds radiate his lightning.	11 il frumento brama le nuvole, e le nuvole spandono la loro luce.
12 He himself guides their wheeling motion presiding over their seasonal changes. They carry out hisorders to the letter al over this earthly world.	12 ESse vanno errando all'intorno, dovunque le guidi il volere di Colui che le governa, per eseguire i suoi ordini sulla superficie della terra,
13 Whether to punish earth's peoples or as a work of faithful love, he despatches them.	13 sia in una tribù, sia nella sua terra, sia in qualche altro luogo in cui la sua misericordia avrà loro ordinato di trovarsi.
14 Listen to this, Job, without flinching and reflect on the marvel ous works of God.	14 Ascolta, o Giobbe, queste cose, fermati a considerare le maraviglie di Dio.
15 Do you know how God controls them or how his clouds make the lightning flash?	15 Sai forse quando Dio abbia comandato alle piogge di far apparire la luce delle sue nuvole?
16 Do you know how he balances the clouds -- a miracle of consummate skil ?	16 Hai tu conosciute le grandi vie delle nubi e le scienze perfette?
17 When your clothes are hot to your body and the earth lies stil under the south wind,	17 Non sono forse calde le tue vesti quando l'austro soffia sopra la terra?
18 can you, like him, stretch out the sky, tempered like a mirror of cast metal?	18 Hai forse con lui fabbricati i cieli, che sono saldissimi come se fossero gettati in bronzo?
19 Teach me what we should say to him: but better discuss no further, since we are in the dark.	19 Insegnaci quello che potremo dirgli, giacché noi siamo involti nelle tenebre.
20 Does he take note when I speak? When human beings give orders, does he take it in?	20 Chi gli racconterà quello che dico io? Se un uomo ardirà parlargli, resterà annientato.
21 There are times when the light vanishes, behind darkening clouds; then comes the wind, sweepingthem away.	21 Ma ora gli uomini non vedono la luce; l'aria all'improvviso s'addensa di nubi: il vento che passa le dissiperà.
22 and brightness spreads from the north. God is clothed in fearful splendour:	22 L'oro viene dal settentrione, e a Dio si rende lode con timore.
23 he, Shaddai, is far beyond our reach. Supreme in power, in equity, excel ing in saving justice, yet nooppressor-	23 Noi non possiamo degnamente arrivare a lui. Egli è grande nella potenza, nel giudizio e nella giustizia, ed è ineffabile.
24 no wonder then that people fear him: everyone thoughtful holds him in awe!	24 Per questo gli uomini lo temeranno, e nessuno di quelli che si credono saggi ardirà contemplarlo ».
