Job 37

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 At this, my very heart quakes and leaps out of its place.	1 Por isto se espantou o meu coração, e pulou fora de seu lugar.
2 Listen, oh listen, to the blast of his voice and the sound that issues from his mouth.	2 Escutai, escutai o brado de sua voz, o estrondo que lhe sai da boca!
3 His lightning is hurled across the heaven, it strikes to the extremities of earth.	3 Enche dele toda a extensão dos céus, e seus relâmpagos vão atingir os confins da terra.
4 After it comes a roaring sound, God thunders with majestic voice. He does not check his thunderboltsuntil his voice resounds no more.	4 Logo depois ruge uma voz, troveja com sua voz majestosa. Não retém mais seus raios quando se faz ouvir.
5 Yes, certainly God shows us marvels and does great deeds that we cannot understand.	5 Deus troveja com uma voz maravilhosa, faz prodígios que nos são incompreensíveis.
6 When he says to the snow, 'Fal on the earth!' to the showers, 'Now rain hard!'	6 Diz à neve: Cai sobre a terra, às pancadas de chuva: Sede fortes.
7 he brings al human activity to a standstil , for everyone to acknowledge his work.	7 Ele põe selos sobre as mãos dos homens, a fim de que todos os mortais reconheçam seu criador.
8 The animals go back to their dens and take shelter in their lairs.	8 A fera também entra em seu covil, e encolhe-se em sua toca.
9 The storm wind comes from the Mansion of the South, and the north winds usher in the cold.	9 O furacão sai da câmara do sul, e do norte chega o frio.
10 At the breath of God, ice comes next, the surface of the waters hardens over.	10 Ao sopro de Deus forma-se a neve, e a superfície das águas se endurece.
11 He weighs the clouds down with moisture, and the storm clouds radiate his lightning.	11 Carrega as nuvens de vapor, as nuvens lançam por toda parte seus relâmpagos
12 He himself guides their wheeling motion presiding over their seasonal changes. They carry out hisorders to the letter al over this earthly world.	12 que vão em todos os sentidos sob sua direção, para realizar tudo quanto ele ordena na face da terra.
13 Whether to punish earth's peoples or as a work of faithful love, he despatches them.	13 Ora é o castigo que eles trazem, ora seus benefícios.
14 Listen to this, Job, without flinching and reflect on the marvel ous works of God.	14 Escuta isto, Jó, pára e considera as maravilhas de Deus.
15 Do you know how God controls them or how his clouds make the lightning flash?	15 Sabes como ele as opera, e faz brilhar o relâmpago de sua nuvem?
16 Do you know how he balances the clouds -- a miracle of consummate skil ?	16 Sabes a lei do equilíbrio das nuvens, e o milagre daquele cuja ciência é infinita?
17 When your clothes are hot to your body and the earth lies stil under the south wind,	17 Por que são quentes as tuas vestes, quando repousa a terra ao sopro do meio-dia?
18 can you, like him, stretch out the sky, tempered like a mirror of cast metal?	18 Saberás, como ele, estender as nuvens, e torná-las sólidas como um espelho de metal fundido?
19 Teach me what we should say to him: but better discuss no further, since we are in the dark.	19 Dá-me a conhecer o que lhe diremos. Mergulhados em nossas trevas, só sabemos objetar.
20 Does he take note when I speak? When human beings give orders, does he take it in?	20 Quem lhe repetirá o que digo? Acaso pedirá um homem a sua própria perdição?
21 There are times when the light vanishes, behind darkening clouds; then comes the wind, sweepingthem away.	21 Agora já não se vê a luz, o sol brilha através das nuvens; passe um golpe de vento, e ele as varrerá;
22 and brightness spreads from the north. God is clothed in fearful splendour:	22 a luz vem do norte. Deus está envolto numa majestade temível;
23 he, Shaddai, is far beyond our reach. Supreme in power, in equity, excel ing in saving justice, yet nooppressor-	23 não podemos atingir o Todo-poderoso: eminente em força, em eqüidade, em justiça, não tem a dar contas a ninguém.
24 no wonder then that people fear him: everyone thoughtful holds him in awe!	24 Que os homens, pois, o reverenciem! Ele não olha aqueles que se julgam sábios.
