Job 37

NEW JERUSALEM	VULGATA
1 At this, my very heart quakes and leaps out of its place.	1 Super hoc expavit cor meum, et emotum est de loco suo.
2 Listen, oh listen, to the blast of his voice and the sound that issues from his mouth.	2 Audite auditionem in terrore vocis ejus, et sonum de ore illius procedentem.
3 His lightning is hurled across the heaven, it strikes to the extremities of earth.	3 Subter omnes cælos ipse considerat, et lumen illius super terminos terræ.
4 After it comes a roaring sound, God thunders with majestic voice. He does not check his thunderboltsuntil his voice resounds no more.	4 Post eum rugiet sonitus ; tonabit voce magnitudinis suæ : et non investigabitur, cum audita fuerit vox ejus.
5 Yes, certainly God shows us marvels and does great deeds that we cannot understand.	5 Tonabit Deus in voce sua mirabiliter, qui facit magna et inscrutabilia ;
6 When he says to the snow, 'Fal on the earth!' to the showers, 'Now rain hard!'	6 qui præcipit nivi ut descendat in terram, et hiemis pluviis, et imbri fortitudinis suæ ;
7 he brings al human activity to a standstil , for everyone to acknowledge his work.	7 qui in manu omnium hominum signat, ut noverint singuli opera sua.
8 The animals go back to their dens and take shelter in their lairs.	8 Ingredietur bestia latibulum, et in antro suo morabitur.
9 The storm wind comes from the Mansion of the South, and the north winds usher in the cold.	9 Ab interioribus egredietur tempestas, et ab Arcturo frigus.
10 At the breath of God, ice comes next, the surface of the waters hardens over.	10 Flante Deo, concrescit gelu, et rursum latissimæ funduntur aquæ.
11 He weighs the clouds down with moisture, and the storm clouds radiate his lightning.	11 Frumentum desiderat nubes, et nubes spargunt lumen suum.
12 He himself guides their wheeling motion presiding over their seasonal changes. They carry out hisorders to the letter al over this earthly world.	12 Quæ lustrant per circuitum, quocumque eas voluntas gubernantis duxerit, ad omne quod præceperit illis super faciem orbis terrarum :
13 Whether to punish earth's peoples or as a work of faithful love, he despatches them.	13 sive in una tribu, sive in terra sua, sive in quocumque loco misericordiæ suæ eas jusserit inveniri.
14 Listen to this, Job, without flinching and reflect on the marvel ous works of God.	14 Ausculta hæc, Job : sta, et considera mirabilia Dei.
15 Do you know how God controls them or how his clouds make the lightning flash?	15 Numquid scis quando præceperit Deus pluviis, ut ostenderent lucem nubium ejus ?
16 Do you know how he balances the clouds -- a miracle of consummate skil ?	16 Numquid nosti semitas nubium magnas, et perfectas scientias ?
17 When your clothes are hot to your body and the earth lies stil under the south wind,	17 Nonne vestimenta tua calida sunt, cum perflata fuerit terra austro ?
18 can you, like him, stretch out the sky, tempered like a mirror of cast metal?	18 Tu forsitan cum eo fabricatus es cælos, qui solidissimi quasi ære fusi sunt.
19 Teach me what we should say to him: but better discuss no further, since we are in the dark.	19 Ostende nobis quid dicamus illi : nos quippe involvimur tenebris.
20 Does he take note when I speak? When human beings give orders, does he take it in?	20 Quis narrabit ei quæ loquor ? etiam si locutus fuerit homo, devorabitur.
21 There are times when the light vanishes, behind darkening clouds; then comes the wind, sweepingthem away.	21 At nunc non vident lucem : subito aër cogetur in nubes, et ventus transiens fugabit eas.
22 and brightness spreads from the north. God is clothed in fearful splendour:	22 Ab aquilone aurum venit, et ad Deum formidolosa laudatio.
23 he, Shaddai, is far beyond our reach. Supreme in power, in equity, excel ing in saving justice, yet nooppressor-	23 Digne eum invenire non possumus : magnus fortitudine, et judicio, et justitia : et enarrari non potest.
24 no wonder then that people fear him: everyone thoughtful holds him in awe!	24 Ideo timebunt eum viri, et non audebunt contemplari omnes qui sibi videntur esse sapientes.
