1 At this, my very heart quakes and leaps out of its place.	1 - Di ciò s'atterrisce il mio cuore, e balza fuor dal suo posto:
2 Listen, oh listen, to the blast of his voice and the sound that issues from his mouth.	2 udite, udite il rombo della sua voce, e il suono che parte dalla bocca di lui;
3 His lightning is hurled across the heaven, it strikes to the extremities of earth.	3 sotto tutti i cieli ei lo sprigiona, e la sua folgore verso gli estremi della terra:
4 After it comes a roaring sound, God thunders with majestic voice. He does not check his thunderboltsuntil his voice resounds no more.	4 dietro ad essa ruggisce un fragore, tuona [Dio] con la sua voce maestosa, nè s'investiga allorchè s'ascolta la sua voce.
5 Yes, certainly God shows us marvels and does great deeds that we cannot understand.	5 Tuona Dio con la sua voce mirabilmente, egli che opera cose grandi e imperscrutabili.
6 When he says to the snow, 'Fal on the earth!' to the showers, 'Now rain hard!'	6 Comanda egli alla neve che cada sulla terra, e alle piogge invernali e ai suoi violenti acquazzoni;
7 he brings al human activity to a standstil , for everyone to acknowledge his work.	7 le mani di ogni uomo ei chiude in un sigillo, affinchè riconosca ciascuno le opere sue:
8 The animals go back to their dens and take shelter in their lairs.	8 allor la fiera entra nella tana, e dentro la sua grotta dimora.
9 The storm wind comes from the Mansion of the South, and the north winds usher in the cold.	9 Dai luoghi reconditi vien fuori la tempesta, e da Arturo il freddo;
10 At the breath of God, ice comes next, the surface of the waters hardens over.	10 al soffiar di Dio si forma il ghiaccio, e di nuovo s'espandono abbondantissime acque.
11 He weighs the clouds down with moisture, and the storm clouds radiate his lightning.	11 Il frumento desidera le nubi, e le nubi lanciano la loro folgore:
12 He himself guides their wheeling motion presiding over their seasonal changes. They carry out hisorders to the letter al over this earthly world.	12 esse s'aggirano all'intorno, ovunque le meni la volontà di chi le governa, per compiere tutto ciò ch'ei loro comandasulla superficie dell'orbe della terra,
13 Whether to punish earth's peoples or as a work of faithful love, he despatches them.	13 sia in una sola tribù, sia nella sua terra, sia ovunque la sua bontà vuol che si trovino.
14 Listen to this, Job, without flinching and reflect on the marvel ous works of God.	14 Presta a ciò orecchio, o Giobbe, férmati, e considera le meraviglie di Dio.
15 Do you know how God controls them or how his clouds make the lightning flash?	15 capisci tu forse quando Dio abbia comandato alle pioggedi mostrar la folgore delle sue nubi?
16 Do you know how he balances the clouds -- a miracle of consummate skil ?	16 capisci tu forse le vie delle nubi, per cognizioni grandi e perfette?
17 When your clothes are hot to your body and the earth lies stil under the south wind,	17 Non s'infocano forse le tue vesti, allorchè la terra è invasa dal vento del sud?
18 can you, like him, stretch out the sky, tempered like a mirror of cast metal?	18 Forse hai tu fabbricato insiem con Lui i cieliche sono saldissimi come se di bronzo fuso?
19 Teach me what we should say to him: but better discuss no further, since we are in the dark.	19 Facci sapere che cosa potremo dire a Lui, perchè noi siamo involti nelle tenebre.
20 Does he take note when I speak? When human beings give orders, does he take it in?	20 Chi riferirà a Lui ciò che io dico? sol che l'uomo ne parli, sarà annientato.
21 There are times when the light vanishes, behind darkening clouds; then comes the wind, sweepingthem away.	21 Ed or non si vede la luce, [impedita dall']aere addensatosi a un tratto in nuvole; ma un vento passa e le disperde,
22 and brightness spreads from the north. God is clothed in fearful splendour:	22 dal settentrione un aureo [fulgore] s'avanza. A Dio [si deve] lode con tremore:
23 he, Shaddai, is far beyond our reach. Supreme in power, in equity, excel ing in saving justice, yet nooppressor-	23 degnamente non possiamo ritrovarlo; egli è grande per fortezza, giudizio e giustizia, nè si può enarrare.
24 no wonder then that people fear him: everyone thoughtful holds him in awe!	24 Perciò gli uomini devono temerlo, nè ardiranno contemplarlo tutti coloro che si ritengono sapienti.»
