At this, my very heart quakes and leaps out of its place.1 At this, my heart became frightened, and it has been moved from its place.
Listen, oh listen, to the blast of his voice and the sound that issues from his mouth.2 Pay close attention to the alarm of his voice and to the sound that proceeds from his mouth.
His lightning is hurled across the heaven, it strikes to the extremities of earth.3 He beholds everything under the heavens, and his light reaches beyond the ends of the earth.
After it comes a roaring sound, God thunders with majestic voice. He does not check his thunderboltsuntil his voice resounds no more.4 After this, a noise will sound; he will thunder with the voice of his greatness, and it will not be tracked down, yet his voice will be obeyed.
Yes, certainly God shows us marvels and does great deeds that we cannot understand.5 God will thunder with his voice miraculously, for he performs great and unsearchable things.
When he says to the snow, 'Fal on the earth!' to the showers, 'Now rain hard!'6 He commands the snow to descend on earth, and the winter rains, and the shower of his strength.
he brings al human activity to a standstil , for everyone to acknowledge his work.7 He signs the hand of all men, so that each one may know his works.
The animals go back to their dens and take shelter in their lairs.8 The beast will enter his hiding-place, and he will remain in his cave.
The storm wind comes from the Mansion of the South, and the north winds usher in the cold.9 From the interior, a storm will come forth, and a cold winter from the north.
At the breath of God, ice comes next, the surface of the waters hardens over.10 As God breathes out, frost forms, and the waters are poured forth very widely again.
He weighs the clouds down with moisture, and the storm clouds radiate his lightning.11 Crops desire clouds, and the clouds scatter their light.
He himself guides their wheeling motion presiding over their seasonal changes. They carry out hisorders to the letter al over this earthly world.12 It shines all around, wherever the will of him that governs them will lead, to anywhere he will command, over the whole face of the earth,
Whether to punish earth's peoples or as a work of faithful love, he despatches them.13 whether in one tribe, or in his own region, or in whatever place of his mercy that he will order them to be found.
Listen to this, Job, without flinching and reflect on the marvel ous works of God.14 Listen to these things, Job. Stand up and consider the wonders of God.
Do you know how God controls them or how his clouds make the lightning flash?15 Do you know when God ordered the rains, so as to show the light of his clouds?
Do you know how he balances the clouds -- a miracle of consummate skil ?16 Do you know the great paths of the clouds, and the perfect sciences?
When your clothes are hot to your body and the earth lies stil under the south wind,17 Are not your garments hot, when the south wind blows across the land?
can you, like him, stretch out the sky, tempered like a mirror of cast metal?18 Perhaps you have made the heavens with him, which are very solid, as if they had been cast from brass.
Teach me what we should say to him: but better discuss no further, since we are in the dark.19 Reveal to us what we should say to him, for, of course, we are wrapped in darkness.
Does he take note when I speak? When human beings give orders, does he take it in?20 Who will explain to him the things that I am saying? Even while a man is still speaking, he will be devoured.
There are times when the light vanishes, behind darkening clouds; then comes the wind, sweepingthem away.21 Although they do not see the light, the air will be thickened suddenly into clouds, and the wind, passing by, will drive them away.
and brightness spreads from the north. God is clothed in fearful splendour:22 Riches arrive from the north, and fearful praise reaches out to God.
he, Shaddai, is far beyond our reach. Supreme in power, in equity, excel ing in saving justice, yet nooppressor-23 We are not worthy to be able to find him. Great in strength, great in judgment, great in justice: he is indescribable.
no wonder then that people fear him: everyone thoughtful holds him in awe!24 Therefore, men will fear him, and all those who seem to themselves to be wise, will not dare to contemplate him.
