Job 20

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Zophar of Naamath spoke next. He said:	1 Sofar de Naama falou nestes termos:
2 My thoughts urge me to reply to this, and hence the impatience that grips me.	2 É por isso que meus pensamentos me sugerem uma resposta, e estou impaciente por falar.
3 I have put up with prating that outrages me and now my mind inspires me with an answer.	3 Ouvi queixas injuriosas, foram palavras vãs que responderam a meu espírito.
4 Do you not know, that since time began and human beings were set on the earth,	4 Não sabes bem que, em todos os tempos, desde que o homem foi posto na terra,
5 the triumph of the wicked has always been brief, and the sinner's gladness has never lasted long?	5 o triunfo dos maus é breve, e a alegria do ímpio só dura um instante?
6 Towering to the sky he may have been, his head touching the clouds;	6 Ainda mesmo que sua estatura chegasse até o céu e sua cabeça tocasse a nuvem,
7 but he vanishes, like a phantom, once for al , while those who used to see him, ask, 'Where is he?'	7 como o seu próprio esterco, ele perece para sempre, e aqueles que o viam, indagam onde ele está.
8 Like a dream that leaves no trace he takes his flight, like a vision in the night he flies away.	8 Como um sonho, ele voa, ninguém mais o encontra, desaparece como uma visão noturna.
9 The eye accustomed to see him sees him no more, his home wil never set eyes on him again.	9 O olho que o viu, já não mais o vê, nem o verá mais a sua morada.
10 His sons will have to reimburse the poor and his children pay back his riches.	10 Seus filhos aplacarão os pobres, suas mãos restituirão suas riquezas.
11 His bones used to be ful of youthful vigour: and there it lies, in the dust with him, now!	11 Seus ossos estavam cheios de vigor juvenil, sua mocidade deita-se com ele no pó.
12 Evil was sweet to his mouth, he would shelter it under his tongue;	12 Se o mal lhe foi doce na boca, se o ocultou debaixo da língua,
13 cultivating it careful y, he would let it linger on his palate.	13 se o reteve e não o abandonou, se o saboreou com seu paladar,
14 Such food goes bad in his bel y, working inside him like the poison of a viper.	14 esse alimento se transformará em suas entranhas, e se converterá interiormente em fel de áspides.
15 Now he has to vomit up the wealth that he has swal owed, God makes him disgorge it.	15 Vomitará as riquezas que engoliu; Deus as fará sair-lhe do ventre.
16 He used to suck vipers' venom, and the tongue of the adder kills him.	16 Sugava o veneno de áspides, a língua da víbora o matará.
17 No more will he know the streams of oil or the torrents of honey and cream.	17 Não verá correr os riachos de óleo, as torrentes de mel e de leite.
18 When he gives back his winnings, his cheerfulness wil fade, and the satisfied air he had whenbusiness was thriving.	18 Vomitará seu ganho, sem poder engoli-lo, não gozará o fruto de seu tráfico.
19 Since he once destroyed the huts of the poor, plundering houses instead of building them up,	19 Porque maltratou, desamparou os pobres, roubou uma casa que não tinha construído,
20 since his avarice could never be satisfied, now al his hoarding will not save him;	20 porque sua avidez é insaciável, não salvará o que lhe era mais caro.
21 since nothing could escape his greed, his prosperity wil not last.	21 Nada escapava à sua voracidade: é por isso que sua felicidade não há de durar.
22 When he has everything he needs, want wil seize him, and misery wil light on him with all its force.	22 Em plena abundância, sentirá escassez; todos os golpes da infelicidade caem sobre ele.
23 On him God looses al his burning wrath, hurling against his flesh a hail of arrows.	23 Para encher-lhe o ventre {Deus} desencadeia o fogo de sua cólera, e fará chover a dor sobre ele.
24 If he escapes the weapons of iron, the bow of bronze wil transfix him.	24 Se foge diante da arma de ferro, o arco de bronze o traspassa,
25 Out of his back sticks an arrow, from his gal a shining point. The terrors advance on him,	25 um dardo sai-lhe das costas, um aço fulgurante sai-lhe do fígado. O terror desaba sobre ele,
26 all the hidden darknesses are waiting to carry him off. A fire unlit by human hand devours him, andconsumes what is left in his tent.	26 e ser-lhe-ão reservadas as trevas. Um fogo, que o homem não acendeu, o devora e consome o que sobra em sua tenda.
27 The heavens lay bare his iniquity, and the earth rises up against him.	27 Os céus revelam seu crime, a terra levanta-se contra ele,
28 The income of his house pours away, like the torrents, on the day of retribution.	28 uma torrente joga-se contra sua casa, que é levada no dia da cólera divina.
29 Such is the fate God reserves for the wicked, the inheritance he assigns to the accursed!	29 Tal é a sorte que Deus reserva ao mau, e a herança que Deus lhe destina.
