Job 20

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Zophar of Naamath spoke next. He said:	1 - Prese allora a parlare Sofar il Naamatita e disse:
2 My thoughts urge me to reply to this, and hence the impatience that grips me.	2 «Per questo i miei pensieri s'avvicendano variamente, e la mente mi si svia in sensi opposti:
3 I have put up with prating that outrages me and now my mind inspires me with an answer.	3 [perchè] ascoltando i principii che tu mi opponi, lo spirito della mia intelligenza mi risponde.
4 Do you not know, that since time began and human beings were set on the earth,	4 Io so questo, che fin da tempo antico, da quando fu posto l'uomo sulla terra,
5 the triumph of the wicked has always been brief, and the sinner's gladness has never lasted long?	5 la gloria degli empii è breve, e il gaudio dell'ipocrita è come d'un istante.
6 Towering to the sky he may have been, his head touching the clouds;	6 Quand'anche s'innalzi ai cieli la sua altezza, e la sua testa tocchi le nuvole,
7 but he vanishes, like a phantom, once for al , while those who used to see him, ask, 'Where is he?'	7 come letame ei perirà per sempre, e quei che già lo videro esclameranno: - Dov'è? -
8 Like a dream that leaves no trace he takes his flight, like a vision in the night he flies away.	8 Qual sogno che svanisce egli non sarà trovato, passerà via come visione notturna;
9 The eye accustomed to see him sees him no more, his home wil never set eyes on him again.	9 l'occhio che già lo vide non lo rivedrà, più non lo scorgerà [la gente del] suo luogo.
10 His sons will have to reimburse the poor and his children pay back his riches.	10 I suoi figli saranno consunti dalla miseria, e le sue mani restituiranno la sua ricchezza.
11 His bones used to be ful of youthful vigour: and there it lies, in the dust with him, now!	11 Le sue ossa saranno riempite dei vizii della sua giovinezza, che insiem con lui giaceranno sulla polvere.
12 Evil was sweet to his mouth, he would shelter it under his tongue;	12 Essendo infatti dolce nella sua bocca il male, egli l'asconde sotto la sua lingua,
13 cultivating it careful y, he would let it linger on his palate.	13 lo riserba e non lo manda giù, trattenendolo dentro al suo palato:
14 Such food goes bad in his bel y, working inside him like the poison of a viper.	14 ma questo suo pane dentro al suo ventre si cambieràin fiele d'aspidi nel suo interno.
15 Now he has to vomit up the wealth that he has swal owed, God makes him disgorge it.	15 Le ricchezze che divorò le vomiterà, e dal suo ventre Dio gliele ricaccerà.
16 He used to suck vipers' venom, and the tongue of the adder kills him.	16 Veleno d'aspidi egli succhierà, l'ucciderà la lingua della vipera.
17 No more will he know the streams of oil or the torrents of honey and cream.	17 Ei non vedrà rigagnoli di fiume, torrenti di miele e di panna.
18 When he gives back his winnings, his cheerfulness wil fade, and the satisfied air he had whenbusiness was thriving.	18 Pagherà per tutto ciò che fece, e tuttavia non sarà consumato, quante sono le sue macchinazioni tanto patirà.
19 Since he once destroyed the huts of the poor, plundering houses instead of building them up,	19 Poichè egli oppresse e spogliò i poveri, usurpò una casa che non aveva edificata.
20 since his avarice could never be satisfied, now al his hoarding will not save him;	20 Insaziato rimase il suo ventre, e avendo ciò che bramava non potè goderne.
21 since nothing could escape his greed, his prosperity wil not last.	21 Nulla sfuggì alla sua voracità, perciò nulla rimarrà dei suoi beni;
22 When he has everything he needs, want wil seize him, and misery wil light on him with all its force.	22 quando sarà sazio, sarà in angustie e in bruciori, ed ogni dolore piomberà su lui.
23 On him God looses al his burning wrath, hurling against his flesh a hail of arrows.	23 Si riempia pure il suo ventre: sì che [Dio] scagli su lui lo sdegno del suo furore, e faccia piovere su lui il suo castigo.
24 If he escapes the weapons of iron, the bow of bronze wil transfix him.	24 Se sfuggirà all'arma di ferro, sarà raggiunto dall'arco di rame:
25 Out of his back sticks an arrow, from his gal a shining point. The terrors advance on him,	25 [è la spada] estratta e cavata dal suo fodero, e folgorante per recare amarezza. Orribili cose andranno e verranno su lui,
26 all the hidden darknesses are waiting to carry him off. A fire unlit by human hand devours him, andconsumes what is left in his tent.	26 tutte le tenebre sono accumulate quali suoi tesori; lo divorerà un fuoco che non è attizzato [da uomo], sarà egli afflitto se abbandonato nella sua tenda.
27 The heavens lay bare his iniquity, and the earth rises up against him.	27 Riveleranno i cieli l'iniquità di lui, e la terra gl'insorgerà contro.
28 The income of his house pours away, like the torrents, on the day of retribution.	28 Asportato sarà il prodotto della sua casa, finirà disperso nel giorno dell'ira di Dio.
29 Such is the fate God reserves for the wicked, the inheritance he assigns to the accursed!	29 Questa è la porzione che Dio assegna all'uomo empio, e l'eredità che il Signore assegna alle sue azioni.»
