NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Zophar of Naamath spoke next. He said:	1 E SOFAR Naamatita rispose, e disse:
2 My thoughts urge me to reply to this, and hence the impatience that grips me.	2 Perciò i miei pensamenti m’incitano a rispondere, E perciò questa mia fretta è in me.
3 I have put up with prating that outrages me and now my mind inspires me with an answer.	3 Io ho udita la mia vituperosa riprensione; Ma lo spirito mio mi spinge a rispondere del mio intendimento.
4 Do you not know, that since time began and human beings were set on the earth,	4 Non sai tu questo, che è stato d’ogni tempo, Da che l’uomo fu posto sopra la terra;
5 the triumph of the wicked has always been brief, and the sinner's gladness has never lasted long?	5 Che il trionfo degli empi è di breve durata, E che la letizia dell’ipocrita è sol per un momento?
6 Towering to the sky he may have been, his head touching the clouds;	6 Avvegnachè la sua altezza salisse fino al cielo, E il suo capo giungesse infino alle nuvole;
7 but he vanishes, like a phantom, once for al , while those who used to see him, ask, 'Where is he?'	7 Pur perirà egli in perpetuo, come lo sterco suo; Quelli che l’avranno veduto, diranno: Ove è egli?
8 Like a dream that leaves no trace he takes his flight, like a vision in the night he flies away.	8 Egli se ne volerà via come un sogno, e non sarà più ritrovato, E si dileguerà come una visione notturna.
9 The eye accustomed to see him sees him no more, his home wil never set eyes on him again.	9 L’occhio che l’avrà veduto nol vedrà più, E il suo luogo nol mirerà più
10 His sons will have to reimburse the poor and his children pay back his riches.	10 I suoi figliuoli procacceranno il favor de’ poveri, E le sue mani restituiranno quel ch’egli avrà rapito per violenza.
11 His bones used to be ful of youthful vigour: and there it lies, in the dust with him, now!	11 Le sue ossa saranno ripiene degli eccessi della sua gioventù, I quali giaceranno con lui in su la polvere.
12 Evil was sweet to his mouth, he would shelter it under his tongue;	12 Se il male gli è stato dolce nella bocca, Se egli l’ha nascosto sotto la sua lingua;
13 cultivating it careful y, he would let it linger on his palate.	13 Se l’ha riserbato, e non l’ha gittato fuori; Anzi l’ha ritenuto in mezzo del suo palato;
14 Such food goes bad in his bel y, working inside him like the poison of a viper.	14 Il suo cibo gli si cangerà nelle sue viscere, E diverrà veleno d’aspido nelle sue interiora.
15 Now he has to vomit up the wealth that he has swal owed, God makes him disgorge it.	15 Egli avrà trangugiate le ricchezze, ma egli le vomiterà; Iddio gliele caccerà fuor del ventre.
16 He used to suck vipers' venom, and the tongue of the adder kills him.	16 Egli avrà succiato il veleno dell’aspido, La lingua della vipera l’ucciderà.
17 No more will he know the streams of oil or the torrents of honey and cream.	17 Egli non vedrà i ruscelli, I fiumi, i torrenti del miele e del burro.
18 When he gives back his winnings, his cheerfulness wil fade, and the satisfied air he had whenbusiness was thriving.	18 Egli renderà ciò che con fatica avrà acquistato, e non l’inghiottirà; Pari alla potenza sua sarà il suo mutamento, e non ne goderà.
19 Since he once destroyed the huts of the poor, plundering houses instead of building them up,	19 Perciocchè egli ha oppressato altrui, egli lascerà dietro a sè de’ bisognosi; Perciocchè egli ha rapita la casa altrui, egli non edificherà la sua.
20 since his avarice could never be satisfied, now al his hoarding will not save him;	20 Perciocchè egli non ha mai sentito riposo nel suo ventre, Non potrà salvar nulla delle sue più care cose.
21 since nothing could escape his greed, his prosperity wil not last.	21 Nulla gli rimarrà da mangiare, E però egli non avrà più speranza ne’ suoi beni.
22 When he has everything he needs, want wil seize him, and misery wil light on him with all its force.	22 Quando egli sarà ripieno a sufficienza, allora sarà distretto; Tutte le mani de’ miseri gli verranno contra
23 On him God looses al his burning wrath, hurling against his flesh a hail of arrows.	23 Quando egli sarà per empiersi il ventre, Iddio gli manderà addosso l’ardore della sua ira, E la farà piovere sopra lui, e sopra il suo cibo.
24 If he escapes the weapons of iron, the bow of bronze wil transfix him.	24 Quando egli fuggirà dalle armi di ferro, Un arco di rame lo trafiggerà.
25 Out of his back sticks an arrow, from his gal a shining point. The terrors advance on him,	25 Come prima la saetta sarà tratta fuori, La punta gli passerà per mezzo il fiele, Dopo esser uscita del suo turcasso; Spaventi gli saranno addosso.
26 all the hidden darknesses are waiting to carry him off. A fire unlit by human hand devours him, andconsumes what is left in his tent.	26 Tutte le tenebre saran nascoste ne’ suoi nascondimenti; Un fuoco non soffiato lo divorerà; Chi sopravviverà nel suo tabernacolo, capiterà male.
27 The heavens lay bare his iniquity, and the earth rises up against him.	27 I cieli scopriranno la sua iniquità, E la terra si leverà contro a lui.
28 The income of his house pours away, like the torrents, on the day of retribution.	28 La rendita della sua casa sarà trasportata ad altri; Ogni cosa sua scorrerà via, nel giorno dell’ira di esso,
29 Such is the fate God reserves for the wicked, the inheritance he assigns to the accursed!	29 Questa è la parte assegnata da Dio all’uomo empio, E l’eredità ch’egli riceve da Dio per le sue parole
