Job 20

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Zophar of Naamath spoke next. He said:	1 Sofar di Naamà prese a dire:
2 My thoughts urge me to reply to this, and hence the impatience that grips me.	2 «Per questo i miei pensieri mi spingono a rispondere e c’è fretta dentro di me.
3 I have put up with prating that outrages me and now my mind inspires me with an answer.	3 Ho ascoltato un rimprovero per me offensivo, ma uno spirito, dal mio interno, mi spinge a replicare.
4 Do you not know, that since time began and human beings were set on the earth,	4 Non sai tu che da sempre, da quando l’uomo fu posto sulla terra,
5 the triumph of the wicked has always been brief, and the sinner's gladness has never lasted long?	5 il trionfo degli empi è breve e la gioia del perverso è di un istante?
6 Towering to the sky he may have been, his head touching the clouds;	6 Anche se si innalzasse fino al cielo la sua statura e il suo capo toccasse le nubi,
7 but he vanishes, like a phantom, once for al , while those who used to see him, ask, 'Where is he?'	7 come il suo sterco sarebbe spazzato via per sempre e chi lo aveva visto direbbe: “Dov’è?”.
8 Like a dream that leaves no trace he takes his flight, like a vision in the night he flies away.	8 Svanirà come un sogno, e non lo si troverà più, si dileguerà come visione notturna.
9 The eye accustomed to see him sees him no more, his home wil never set eyes on him again.	9 L’occhio avvezzo a vederlo più non lo vedrà né più lo scorgerà la sua casa.
10 His sons will have to reimburse the poor and his children pay back his riches.	10 I suoi figli dovranno risarcire i poveri e le sue stesse mani restituiranno le sue ricchezze.
11 His bones used to be ful of youthful vigour: and there it lies, in the dust with him, now!	11 Le sue ossa erano piene di vigore giovanile, con lui ora giacciono nella polvere.
12 Evil was sweet to his mouth, he would shelter it under his tongue;	12 Se alla sua bocca fu dolce il male, se lo teneva nascosto sotto la sua lingua,
13 cultivating it careful y, he would let it linger on his palate.	13 assaporandolo senza inghiottirlo, se lo tratteneva in mezzo al suo palato,
14 Such food goes bad in his bel y, working inside him like the poison of a viper.	14 il suo cibo gli si guasterà nelle viscere, gli si trasformerà in veleno di vipere.
15 Now he has to vomit up the wealth that he has swal owed, God makes him disgorge it.	15 I beni che ha divorato, dovrà vomitarli, Dio glieli caccerà fuori dal ventre.
16 He used to suck vipers' venom, and the tongue of the adder kills him.	16 Veleno di vipere ha succhiato, una lingua di aspide lo ucciderà.
17 No more will he know the streams of oil or the torrents of honey and cream.	17 Non vedrà più ruscelli d’olio, fiumi di miele e fior di panna;
18 When he gives back his winnings, his cheerfulness wil fade, and the satisfied air he had whenbusiness was thriving.	18 darà ad altri il frutto della sua fatica senza mangiarne, come non godrà del frutto del suo commercio,
19 Since he once destroyed the huts of the poor, plundering houses instead of building them up,	19 perché ha oppresso e abbandonato i miseri, ha rubato case invece di costruirle;
20 since his avarice could never be satisfied, now al his hoarding will not save him;	20 perché non ha saputo calmare il suo ventre, con i suoi tesori non si salverà.
21 since nothing could escape his greed, his prosperity wil not last.	21 Nulla è sfuggito alla sua voracità, per questo non durerà il suo benessere.
22 When he has everything he needs, want wil seize him, and misery wil light on him with all its force.	22 Nel colmo della sua abbondanza si troverà in miseria; ogni sorta di sciagura piomberà su di lui.
23 On him God looses al his burning wrath, hurling against his flesh a hail of arrows.	23 Quando starà per riempire il suo ventre, Dio scaglierà su di lui la fiamma del suo sdegno e gli farà piovere addosso brace.
24 If he escapes the weapons of iron, the bow of bronze wil transfix him.	24 Se sfuggirà all’arma di ferro, lo trafiggerà l’arco di bronzo.
25 Out of his back sticks an arrow, from his gal a shining point. The terrors advance on him,	25 Se estrarrà la freccia dalla schiena, una spada lucente gli squarcerà il fegato. Lo assaliranno i terrori;
26 all the hidden darknesses are waiting to carry him off. A fire unlit by human hand devours him, andconsumes what is left in his tent.	26 le tenebre più fitte gli saranno riservate. Lo divorerà un fuoco non attizzato da uomo, esso consumerà quanto è rimasto nella sua tenda.
27 The heavens lay bare his iniquity, and the earth rises up against him.	27 Riveleranno i cieli la sua iniquità e la terra si alzerà contro di lui.
28 The income of his house pours away, like the torrents, on the day of retribution.	28 Sparirà il raccolto della sua casa, tutto sarà disperso nel giorno della sua ira.
29 Such is the fate God reserves for the wicked, the inheritance he assigns to the accursed!	29 Questa è la sorte che Dio riserva all’uomo malvagio, l’eredità che Dio gli ha decretato».
