Job 20

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Zophar of Naamath spoke next. He said:	1 Allora Zofar di Naama prese la parola e disse:
2 My thoughts urge me to reply to this, and hence the impatience that grips me.	2 "Per questo le mie riflessioni mi spingono a rispondere: a causa dell'agitazione che sento in me.
3 I have put up with prating that outrages me and now my mind inspires me with an answer.	3 Ho ascoltato una lezione umiliante, ma l'ispirazione del mio senno mi fa replicare.
4 Do you not know, that since time began and human beings were set on the earth,	4 Non sai tu che da sempre, da quando l'uomo fu posto sulla terra,
5 the triumph of the wicked has always been brief, and the sinner's gladness has never lasted long?	5 la felicità dei malvagi è effimera e la gioia degli empi dura un istante?
6 Towering to the sky he may have been, his head touching the clouds;	6 Anche se la sua ambizione sale fino al cielo e il suo capo tocca le nubi,
7 but he vanishes, like a phantom, once for al , while those who used to see him, ask, 'Where is he?'	7 perirà per sempre, come il suo escremento, e chi l'ha visto dirà: "Dov'è?".
8 Like a dream that leaves no trace he takes his flight, like a vision in the night he flies away.	8 Svanisce come un sogno e più non si trova; si dilegua come una visione notturna.
9 The eye accustomed to see him sees him no more, his home wil never set eyes on him again.	9 L'occhio che lo vedeva, non lo scorge più; anche la sua dimora l'ha perduto di vista.
10 His sons will have to reimburse the poor and his children pay back his riches.	10 I suoi figli dovranno indennizzare i poveri e le loro mani restituiranno le sue ricchezze.
11 His bones used to be ful of youthful vigour: and there it lies, in the dust with him, now!	11 Le sue ossa ancor piene di vigore con lui giacciono nella polvere.
12 Evil was sweet to his mouth, he would shelter it under his tongue;	12 Se fu dolce il male alla sua bocca, se lo nascondeva sotto la lingua,
13 cultivating it careful y, he would let it linger on his palate.	13 se lo assapora, senza inghiottirlo ritenendolo contro il palato,
14 Such food goes bad in his bel y, working inside him like the poison of a viper.	14 il suo cibo si altera nelle sue viscere, divenendo un veleno di vipera dentro di lui.
15 Now he has to vomit up the wealth that he has swal owed, God makes him disgorge it.	15 I beni che aveva divorato, li rivomita; Dio glieli caccia fuori dal ventre.
16 He used to suck vipers' venom, and the tongue of the adder kills him.	16 Succhiò veleno di aspide, una lingua di vipera lo uccide.
17 No more will he know the streams of oil or the torrents of honey and cream.	17 Non vedrà più ruscelli d'olio, torrenti di miele e fior di latte.
18 When he gives back his winnings, his cheerfulness wil fade, and the satisfied air he had whenbusiness was thriving.	18 Restituisce il frutto della fatica, senza averne goduto, e di ciò che guadagnò commerciando, non si rallegra.
19 Since he once destroyed the huts of the poor, plundering houses instead of building them up,	19 Perché ha oppresso e lasciato in miseria i poveri e si appropriò di case che non costruì;
20 since his avarice could never be satisfied, now al his hoarding will not save him;	20 perché il suo ventre non ha saputo accontentarsi, non poteva sottrarsi al suo appetito.
21 since nothing could escape his greed, his prosperity wil not last.	21 Niente sfuggiva alla sua voracità, perciò il suo benessere non è stabile.
22 When he has everything he needs, want wil seize him, and misery wil light on him with all its force.	22 Nel colmo dell'abbondanza si troverà in strettezze, tutti i colpi della sventura piomberanno su di lui.
23 On him God looses al his burning wrath, hurling against his flesh a hail of arrows.	23 Quando starà per riempire il suo ventre, Dio scatenerà contro di lui l'ardore della sua ira e gli farà piovere addosso brace.
24 If he escapes the weapons of iron, the bow of bronze wil transfix him.	24 Se sfugge all'arma del ferro, lo trafiggerà l'arma di bronzo;
25 Out of his back sticks an arrow, from his gal a shining point. The terrors advance on him,	25 estrae la freccia che esce dal suo corpo, e quando la punta abbandona il fegato, i terrori irrompono su di lui.
26 all the hidden darknesses are waiting to carry him off. A fire unlit by human hand devours him, andconsumes what is left in his tent.	26 Tutte le tenebre sono a lui riservate, lo divora un fuoco non acceso da uomo; esso consuma quanto è rimasto nella tenda.
27 The heavens lay bare his iniquity, and the earth rises up against him.	27 Il cielo rivela la sua iniquità e contro di lui si solleva la terra.
28 The income of his house pours away, like the torrents, on the day of retribution.	28 Un'alluvione travolge la sua casa, acque tumultuose nel giorno della sua ira.
29 Such is the fate God reserves for the wicked, the inheritance he assigns to the accursed!	29 Questa è la sorte che Dio riserva all'uomo malvagio, la parte di eredità aggiudicatagli da Dio".
