NEW JERUSALEM	MODERN HEBREW BIBLE
1 Since I have lost al taste for life, I shal give free rein to my complaining; I shal let my embittered soulspeak out.	1 נקטה נפשי בחיי אעזבה עלי שיחי אדברה במר נפשי
2 I shal say to God, 'Do not condemn me, tel me what your case is against me.	2 אמר אל אלוה אל תרשיעני הודיעני על מה תריבני
3 Is it right for you to attack me, in contempt for what you yourself have made, thus abetting theschemes of the wicked?	3 הטוב לך כי תעשק כי תמאס יגיע כפיך ועל עצת רשעים הופעת
4 Are your eyes mere human eyes, do you see as human beings see?	4 העיני בשר לך אם כראות אנוש תראה
5 Are you mortal like human beings? do your years pass as human days pass?	5 הכימי אנוש ימיך אם שנותיך כימי גבר
6 You, who enquire into my faults and investigate my sins,	6 כי תבקש לעוני ולחטאתי תדרוש
7 you know very wel that I am innocent, and that no one can rescue me from your grasp.	7 על דעתך כי לא ארשע ואין מידך מציל
8 Your hands having shaped and created me, now you change your mind and mean to destroy me!	8 ידיך עצבוני ויעשוני יחד סביב ותבלעני
9 Having made me, remember, as though of clay, now you mean to turn me back into dust!	9 זכר נא כי כחמר עשיתני ואל עפר תשיבני
10 Did you not pour me out like milk, and then let me thicken like curds,	10 הלא כחלב תתיכני וכגבנה תקפיאני
11 clothe me with skin and flesh, and weave me of bone and sinew?	11 עור ובשר תלבישני ובעצמות וגידים תסככני
12 In your love you gave me life, and in your care watched over my every breath.	12 חיים וחסד עשית עמדי ופקדתך שמרה רוחי
13 Yet, al the while, you had a secret plan: I know that you were biding your time	13 ואלה צפנת בלבבך ידעתי כי זאת עמך
14 to see if I should sin and then not acquit me of my faults.	14 אם חטאתי ושמרתני ומעוני לא תנקני
15 Woe to me, if I am guilty; even if I am upright, I dare not lift my head, so overwhelmed with shameand drunk with pain am I!	15 אם רשעתי אללי לי וצדקתי לא אשא ראשי שבע קלון וראה עניי
16 Proud as a lion, you hunt me down, multiplying your exploits at my expense,	16 ויגאה כשחל תצודני ותשב תתפלא בי
17 attacking me again and again, your fury against me ever increasing, your troops assailing me, waveafter wave.	17 תחדש עדיך נגדי ותרב כעשך עמדי חליפות וצבא עמי
18 Why did you bring me out of the womb? I should have perished then, unseen by any eye,	18 ולמה מרחם הצאתני אגוע ועין לא תראני
19 a being that had never been, to be carried from womb to grave.	19 כאשר לא הייתי אהיה מבטן לקבר אובל
20 The days of my life are few enough: turn your eyes away, leave me a little joy,	20 הלא מעט ימי יחדל ישית ממני ואבליגה מעט
21 before I go to the place of no return, to the land of darkness and shadow dark as death,	21 בטרם אלך ולא אשוב אל ארץ חשך וצלמות
