NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Since I have lost al taste for life, I shal give free rein to my complaining; I shal let my embittered soulspeak out.	1 Mi alma está asqueada de la vida, quiero dar libre curso a mi queja, expresaré toda mi amargura.
2 I shal say to God, 'Do not condemn me, tel me what your case is against me.	2 Diré a Dios: «No me condenes, dame a conocer por qué me recriminas».
3 Is it right for you to attack me, in contempt for what you yourself have made, thus abetting theschemes of the wicked?	3 ¿Es un placer para ti oprimir, despreciar la obra de tus manos y favorecer el designio de los malvados?
4 Are your eyes mere human eyes, do you see as human beings see?	4 ¿Acaso tienes ojos de carne? ¿Ves tú las cosas como las ven los hombres?
5 Are you mortal like human beings? do your years pass as human days pass?	5 ¿Son tus días como los de un mortal y tus años como los días de un hombre,
6 You, who enquire into my faults and investigate my sins,	6 para que estés al acecho de mi culpa y vayas en busca de mi pecado,
7 you know very wel that I am innocent, and that no one can rescue me from your grasp.	7 aún sabiendo que no soy culpable y que nadie puede librar de tu mano?
8 Your hands having shaped and created me, now you change your mind and mean to destroy me!	8 Tus manos me modelaron y me hicieron, y luego, cambiando de parecer, me destruyes.
9 Having made me, remember, as though of clay, now you mean to turn me back into dust!	9 Acuérdate que me hiciste de la arcilla y que me harás retornar al polvo.
10 Did you not pour me out like milk, and then let me thicken like curds,	10 ¿Acaso no me derramaste como leche y me cuajaste como el queso?
11 clothe me with skin and flesh, and weave me of bone and sinew?	11 Me revestiste de piel y de carne y me tejiste con huesos y tendones.
12 In your love you gave me life, and in your care watched over my every breath.	12 Me diste la vida y me trataste con amor, y tu solicitud preservó mi aliento.
13 Yet, al the while, you had a secret plan: I know that you were biding your time	13 ¡Pero tú ocultabas alto en tu corazón, ahora comprendo lo que tenías pensado!
14 to see if I should sin and then not acquit me of my faults.	14 Si yo peco, tú me vigilas y no me absuelves de mi culpa.
15 Woe to me, if I am guilty; even if I am upright, I dare not lift my head, so overwhelmed with shameand drunk with pain am I!	15 Si soy culpable, ¡ay de mí! Si soy inocente, tampoco puedo alzar cabeza, saturado de ignominia, embriagado de aflicción.
16 Proud as a lion, you hunt me down, multiplying your exploits at my expense,	16 Si me levanto, tú me cazas como un león y redoblas contra mi tu asombroso poder.
17 attacking me again and again, your fury against me ever increasing, your troops assailing me, waveafter wave.	17 Suscitas contra mí nuevos testigos, acrecientas tu furor contra mí y me atacas con tropas de relevo.
18 Why did you bring me out of the womb? I should have perished then, unseen by any eye,	18 ¿Por qué me sacaste del seno materno? Yo habría expirado sin que nadie me viera,
19 a being that had never been, to be carried from womb to grave.	19 sería como si nunca hubiera existido, me habrían llevado del vientre a la tumba.
20 The days of my life are few enough: turn your eyes away, leave me a little joy,	20 ¡Duran tan poco los días de mi vida! ¡Apártate de mí! Así podré sonreír un poco,
21 before I go to the place of no return, to the land of darkness and shadow dark as death,	21 antes que me vaya, para no volver, a la región de las tinieblas y las sombras,
22 where dimness and disorder hold sway, and light itself is like dead of night.	22 a la tierra de la oscuridad y el desorden, donde la misma claridad es tiniebla.
