NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, 'Breed, multiply and fil the earth.1 Benedixitque Deus Noe et filiis eius et dixit ad eos: “Crescite et multiplicamini et implete terram.
2 Be the terror and the dread of al the animals on land and al the birds of heaven, of everything thatmoves on land and all the fish of the sea; they are placed in your hands.2 Et terror vester ac tremor sit super cuncta animalia terrae et super omnes volucres caeli cum universis, quae moventur super terram; omnes pisces maris manui vestrae traditi sunt.
3 Every living thing that moves wil be yours to eat, no less than the foliage of the plants. I give youeverything,3 Omne, quod movetur et vivit, erit vobis in cibum; quasi holera virentia tradidi vobis omnia,
4 with this exception: you must not eat flesh with life, that is to say blood, in it.4 excepto quod carnem cum anima, quae est in sanguine, non comedetis.
5 And I shal demand account of your life-blood, too. I shall demand it of every animal, and of man. Ofman as regards his fel ow-man, I shal demand account for human life.5 Sanguinem enim animarum vestrarum requiram de manu cunctarum bestiarum; et de manu hominis, de manu viri fratris eius requiram animam hominis.
6 He who sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for in the image of God was mancreated.6 Quicumque effuderit humanum sanguinem,
per hominem fundetur sanguis illius;
ad imaginem quippe Dei
factus est homo.
7 Be fruitful then and multiply, teem over the earth and subdue it!'7 Vos autem crescite et multiplicamini et pullulate super terram et dominamini ei”.
8 God spoke as fol ows to Noah and his sons,8 Haec quoque dixit Deus ad Noe et ad filios eius cum eo:
9 'I am now establishing my covenant with you and with your descendants to come,9 “Ecce ego statuam pactum meum vobiscum et cum semine vestro post vos
10 and with every living creature that was with you: birds, cattle and every wild animal with you;everything that came out of the ark, every living thing on earth.10 et ad omnem animam viventem, quae est vobiscum tam in volucribus quam in iumentis et in omnibus bestiis terrae, quae sunt vobiscum, cunctis, quae egressa sunt de arca, universis bestiis terrae.
11 And I shal maintain my covenant with you: that never again shal all living things be destroyed by thewaters of a flood, nor shal there ever again be a flood to devastate the earth.'11 Statuam pactum meum vobiscum; et nequaquam ultra interficietur omnis caro aquis diluvii, neque erit deinceps diluvium dissipans terram”.
12 'And this', God said, 'is the sign of the covenant which I now make between myself and you and everyliving creature with you for al ages to come:12 Dixitque Deus: “Hoc signum foederis, quod do inter me et vos et ad omnem animam viventem, quae est vobiscum, in generationes sempiternas:
13 I now set my bow in the clouds and it wil be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.13 arcum meum ponam in nubibus, et erit signum foederis inter me et inter terram.
14 When I gather the clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds,14 Cumque obduxero nubibus caelum, apparebit arcus meus in nubibus,
15 I shal recall the covenant between myself and you and every living creature, in a word al living things,and never again will the waters become a flood to destroy al living things.15 et recordabor foederis mei vobiscum et cum omni anima vivente, quae carnem vegetat; et non erunt ultra aquae diluvii ad delendum universam carnem.
16 When the bow is in the clouds I shall see it and call to mind the eternal covenant between God andevery living creature on earth, that is, al living things.'16 Eritque arcus in nubibus, et videbo illum et recordabor foederis sempiterni, quod pactum est inter Deum et omnem animam viventem universae carnis, quae est super terram”.
17 'That', God told Noah, 'is the sign of the covenant I have established between myself and al livingthings on earth.'17 Dixitque Deus ad Noe: “Hoc erit signum foederis, quod constitui inter me et omnem carnem super terram”.
18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth-Ham being the father ofCanaan.18 Erant ergo filii Noe, qui egressi sunt de arca, Sem, Cham et Iapheth. Porro Cham ipse est pater Chanaan.
19 These three were Noah's sons, and from these the whole earth was peopled.19 Tres isti filii sunt Noe, et ab his disseminatum est omne hominum genus super universam terram.
20 Noah, a til er of the soil, was the first to plant the vine.20 Coepitque Noe agricola plantare vineam;
21 He drank some of the wine, and while he was drunk, he lay uncovered in his tent.21 bibensque vinum inebriatus est et nudatus in tabernaculo suo.
22 Ham, father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.22 Quod cum vidisset Cham pater Chanaan, verenda scilicet patris sui esse nudata, nuntiavit duobus fratribus suis foras.
23 Shem and Japheth took a cloak and they both put it over their shoulders, and walking backwards,covered their father's nakedness; they kept their faces turned away, and they did not look at their father naked.23 At vero Sem et Iapheth pallium imposuerunt umeris suis et incedentes retrorsum operuerunt verecunda patris sui, faciesque eorum aversae erant, et patris virilia non viderunt.
24 When Noah awoke from his stupor he learned what his youngest son had done to him,24 Evigilans autem Noe ex vino, cum didicisset, quae fecerat ei filius suus minor,
25 and said: Accursed be Canaan, he shal be his brothers' meanest slave.25 ait:
Maledictus Chanaan!
Servus servorum erit fratribus suis”.
26 He added: Blessed be Yahweh, God of Shem, let Canaan be his slave!26 Dixitque:
Benedictus Dominus Deus Sem!
Sitque Chanaan servus eius.
27 May God make space for Japheth, may he live in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his slave!27 Dilatet Deus Iapheth,
et habitet in tabernaculis Sem,
sitque Chanaan servus eius”.
28 After the flood Noah lived three hundred and fifty years.28 Vixit autem Noe post diluvium trecentis quinquaginta annis.
29 In al , Noah's life lasted nine hundred and fifty years; then he died.29 Et impleti sunt omnes dies eius nongentorum quinquaginta annorum, et mortuus est.
