1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, 'Breed, multiply and fil the earth.	1 Dieu bénit Noé et ses fils, il leur dit: “Soyez féconds et nombreux, remplissez la terre.
2 Be the terror and the dread of al the animals on land and al the birds of heaven, of everything thatmoves on land and all the fish of the sea; they are placed in your hands.	2 Vous inspirerez crainte ou terreur à tous les animaux de la terre et aux oiseaux du ciel. Tout ce qui foisonne sur la terre est à votre disposition, et de même les poissons de la mer: prenez-en.
3 Every living thing that moves wil be yours to eat, no less than the foliage of the plants. I give youeverything,	3 Tout ce qui bouge et vit sera votre nourriture, je vous le donne tout comme les légumes.
4 with this exception: you must not eat flesh with life, that is to say blood, in it.	4 Cependant vous ne mangerez pas la chair avec son âme, c’est-à-dire le sang.
5 And I shal demand account of your life-blood, too. I shall demand it of every animal, and of man. Ofman as regards his fel ow-man, I shal demand account for human life.	5 Je demanderai compte de votre sang - de votre âme - à tout animal; et pour les hommes entre eux, je demanderai compte à chacun de l’âme de son frère. De l’âme de tout homme, je demanderai compte.
6 He who sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for in the image of God was mancreated.	6 Si quelqu’un répand le sang de l’homme, son sang aussi sera répandu par l’homme, car Dieu a créé l’homme à son image.
7 Be fruitful then and multiply, teem over the earth and subdue it!'	7 Quant à vous, soyez féconds, nombreux, développez-vous sur la terre et dominez sur elle.”
8 God spoke as fol ows to Noah and his sons,	8 Dieu adressa la parole à Noé et à ses fils:
9 'I am now establishing my covenant with you and with your descendants to come,	9 “Voici que j’établis mon alliance avec vous et avec votre descendance après vous,
10 and with every living creature that was with you: birds, cattle and every wild animal with you;everything that came out of the ark, every living thing on earth.	10 avec tous les êtres vivants qui sont avec vous: oiseaux, animaux des champs et bêtes de la terre qui vivent autour de vous, tous ces animaux de la terre qui sont sortis de l’arche.
11 And I shal maintain my covenant with you: that never again shal all living things be destroyed by thewaters of a flood, nor shal there ever again be a flood to devastate the earth.'	11 Oui, j’établis mon alliance avec vous: on ne verra plus tous les êtres vivants supprimés de la terre par les eaux d’un déluge; il n’y aura plus de déluge pour ravager la terre.”
12 'And this', God said, 'is the sign of the covenant which I now make between myself and you and everyliving creature with you for al ages to come:	12 Et Dieu dit: “Voici le signe de l’alliance que j’établis entre moi et vous et tous les êtres vivants qui sont avec vous pour les générations à venir.
13 I now set my bow in the clouds and it wil be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.	13 Je place mon arc dans la nuée pour qu’il soit le signe de l’alliance entre moi et la terre.
14 When I gather the clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds,	14 Lorsque je couvrirai la terre de nuages, l’arc apparaîtra dans le ciel.
15 I shal recall the covenant between myself and you and every living creature, in a word al living things,and never again will the waters become a flood to destroy al living things.	15 Alors je me souviendrai de l’alliance que j’ai établie entre moi et vous et tout être vivant, et on ne verra plus des eaux de déluge détruire toute chair.
16 When the bow is in the clouds I shall see it and call to mind the eternal covenant between God andevery living creature on earth, that is, al living things.'	16 L’arc-en-ciel sera dans la nuée: je le verrai et je me souviendrai de l’alliance perpétuelle entre Dieu et tout être qui vit sur la terre.”
17 'That', God told Noah, 'is the sign of the covenant I have established between myself and al livingthings on earth.'	17 Dieu dit à Noé: “Voici le signe de l’alliance que j’ai établie entre moi et tout ce qui vit sur la terre.”
18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth-Ham being the father ofCanaan.	18 Les fils de Noé qui sortirent de l’arche étaient Sem, Kam et Japhet. Kam est le père de Canaan.
19 These three were Noah's sons, and from these the whole earth was peopled.	19 Ces trois-là sont les fils de Noé, et c’est par eux que fut peuplée toute la terre.
20 Noah, a til er of the soil, was the first to plant the vine.	20 Noé, homme de la terre, commença à planter une vigne.
21 He drank some of the wine, and while he was drunk, he lay uncovered in his tent.	21 Il but du vin, s’enivra et se coucha nu au milieu de sa tente.
22 Ham, father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.	22 Kam, père de Canaan, regarda son père qui était nu et il le raconta à ses deux frères qui étaient dehors.
23 Shem and Japheth took a cloak and they both put it over their shoulders, and walking backwards,covered their father's nakedness; they kept their faces turned away, and they did not look at their father naked.	23 Mais Sem et Japhet prirent un manteau à deux, ils le mirent sur leurs épaules, puis ils marchèrent à reculons et couvrirent leur père qui était nu. Leurs visages étaient tournés en arrière pour ne pas regarder la nudité de leur père.
24 When Noah awoke from his stupor he learned what his youngest son had done to him,	24 Lorsque Noé sortit de son ivresse, il apprit ce qu’avait fait son fils le plus jeune.
25 and said: Accursed be Canaan, he shal be his brothers' meanest slave.	25 Il dit: “Maudit soit Canaan! Il sera pour ses frères l’esclave des esclaves.”
26 He added: Blessed be Yahweh, God of Shem, let Canaan be his slave!	26 Puis il dit: “Béni soit Yahvé, le Dieu de Sem! Que Canaan soit son esclave!
27 May God make space for Japheth, may he live in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his slave!	27 Que Dieu fasse grandir Japhet! Qu’il habite dans les tentes de Sem et que Canaan soit son esclave!”
28 After the flood Noah lived three hundred and fifty years.	28 Noé vécut encore 350 ans après le déluge.
29 In al , Noah's life lasted nine hundred and fifty years; then he died.	29 La vie de Noé atteignit 950 ans au total, après quoi il mourut.
