Genesis 9

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, 'Breed, multiply and fil the earth.	1 Dieu bénit Noé et ses fils et il leur dit: "Soyez féconds, multipliez, emplissez la terre.
2 Be the terror and the dread of al the animals on land and al the birds of heaven, of everything thatmoves on land and all the fish of the sea; they are placed in your hands.	2 Soyez la crainte et l'effroi de tous les animaux de la terre et de tous les oiseaux du ciel, comme detout ce dont la terre fourmille et de tous les poissons de la mer: ils sont livrés entre vos mains
3 Every living thing that moves wil be yours to eat, no less than the foliage of the plants. I give youeverything,	3 Tout ce qui se meut et possède la vie vous servira de nourriture, je vous donne tout cela au mêmetitre que la verdure des plantes.
4 with this exception: you must not eat flesh with life, that is to say blood, in it.	4 Seulement, vous ne mangerez pas la chair avec son âme, c'est-à-dire le sang.
5 And I shal demand account of your life-blood, too. I shall demand it of every animal, and of man. Ofman as regards his fel ow-man, I shal demand account for human life.	5 Mais je demanderai compte du sang de chacun de vous. J'en demanderai compte à tous les animauxet à l'homme, aux hommes entre eux, je demanderai compte de l'âme de l'homme.
6 He who sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for in the image of God was mancreated.	6 "Qui verse le sang de l'homme, par l'homme aura son sang versé. Car à l'image de Dieu l'homme aété fait.
7 Be fruitful then and multiply, teem over the earth and subdue it!'	7 Pour vous, soyez féconds, multipliez, pullulez sur la terre et la dominez."
8 God spoke as fol ows to Noah and his sons,	8 Dieu parla ainsi à Noé et à ses fils:
9 'I am now establishing my covenant with you and with your descendants to come,	9 "Voici que j'établis mon alliance avec vous et avec vos descendants après vous,
10 and with every living creature that was with you: birds, cattle and every wild animal with you;everything that came out of the ark, every living thing on earth.	10 et avec tous les êtres animés qui sont avec vous: oiseaux, bestiaux, toutes bêtes sauvages avecvous, bref tout ce qui est sorti de l'arche, tous les animaux de la terre.
11 And I shal maintain my covenant with you: that never again shal all living things be destroyed by thewaters of a flood, nor shal there ever again be a flood to devastate the earth.'	11 J'établis mon alliance avec vous: tout ce qui est ne sera plus détruit par les eaux du déluge, il n'yaura plus de déluge pour ravager la terre."
12 'And this', God said, 'is the sign of the covenant which I now make between myself and you and everyliving creature with you for al ages to come:	12 Et Dieu dit: "Voici le signe de l'alliance que j'institue entre moi et vous et tous les êtres vivants quisont avec vous, pour les générations à venir:
13 I now set my bow in the clouds and it wil be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.	13 je mets mon arc dans la nuée et il deviendra un signe d'alliance entre moi et la terre.
14 When I gather the clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds,	14 Lorsque j'assemblerai les nuées sur la terre et que l'arc apparaîtra dans la nuée,
15 I shal recall the covenant between myself and you and every living creature, in a word al living things,and never again will the waters become a flood to destroy al living things.	15 je me souviendrai de l'alliance qu'il y a entre moi et vous et tous les êtres vivants, en somme toutechair, et les eaux ne deviendront plus un déluge pour détruire toute chair.
16 When the bow is in the clouds I shall see it and call to mind the eternal covenant between God andevery living creature on earth, that is, al living things.'	16 Quand l'arc sera dans la nuée, je le verrai et me souviendrai de l'alliance éternelle qu'il y a entreDieu et tous les êtres vivants, en somme toute chair qui est sur la terre."
17 'That', God told Noah, 'is the sign of the covenant I have established between myself and al livingthings on earth.'	17 Dieu dit à Noé: "Tel est le signe de l'alliance que j'établis entre moi et toute chair qui est sur laterre."
18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth-Ham being the father ofCanaan.	18 Les fils de Noé qui sortirent de l'arche étaient Sem, Cham et Japhet; Cham est le père de Canaan.
19 These three were Noah's sons, and from these the whole earth was peopled.	19 Ces trois-là étaient les fils de Noé et à partir d'eux se fit le peuplement de toute la terre.
20 Noah, a til er of the soil, was the first to plant the vine.	20 Noé, le cultivateur, commença de planter la vigne.
21 He drank some of the wine, and while he was drunk, he lay uncovered in his tent.	21 Ayant bu du vin, il fut enivré et se dénuda à l'intérieur de sa tente.
22 Ham, father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.	22 Cham, père de Canaan, vit la nudité de son père et avertit ses deux frères au-dehors.
23 Shem and Japheth took a cloak and they both put it over their shoulders, and walking backwards,covered their father's nakedness; they kept their faces turned away, and they did not look at their father naked.	23 Mais Sem et Japhet prirent le manteau, le mirent tous deux sur leur épaule et, marchant à reculons,couvrirent la nudité de leur père; leurs visages étaient tournés en arrière et ils ne virent pas la nudité de leur père.
24 When Noah awoke from his stupor he learned what his youngest son had done to him,	24 Lorsque Noé se réveilla de son ivresse, il apprit ce que lui avait fait son fils le plus jeune.
25 and said: Accursed be Canaan, he shal be his brothers' meanest slave.	25 Et il dit: "Maudit soit Canaan! Qu'il soit pour ses frères le dernier des esclaves!"
26 He added: Blessed be Yahweh, God of Shem, let Canaan be his slave!	26 Il dit aussi: "Béni soit Yahvé, le Dieu de Sem, et que Canaan soit son esclave!
27 May God make space for Japheth, may he live in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his slave!	27 Que Dieu mette Japhet au large, qu'il habite dans les tentes de Sem, et que Canaan soit sonesclave!"
28 After the flood Noah lived three hundred and fifty years.	28 Après le déluge, Noé vécut 350 ans.
29 In al , Noah's life lasted nine hundred and fifty years; then he died.	29 Toute la durée de la vie de Noé fut de 950 ans, puis ilmourut.
