Proverbs 31

1 The words of Lemuel, king of Massa. The advice which his mother gave him:	1 Parole di Lemuèl, re di Massa, che sua madre gli insegnò.
2 What, my son, my first-born! what, O son of my womb; what, O son of my vows!	2 E che, figlio mio! E che, figlio delle mie viscere! E che, figlio dei miei voti!
3 Give not your vigor to women, nor your strength to those who ruin kings.	3 Non dare il tuo vigore alle donne, né i tuoi costumi a quelle che corrompono i re.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, not for kings to drink wine; strong drink is not for princes!	4 Non conviene ai re, Lemuèl, non conviene ai re bere il vino, né ai principi bramare bevande inebrianti,
5 Lest in drinking they forget what the law decrees, and violate the rights of all who are in need.	5 per paura che, bevendo, dimentichino i loro decreti e tradiscano il diritto di tutti gli afflitti.
6 Give strong drink to one who is perishing, and wine to the sorely depressed;	6 Date bevande inebrianti a chi sta per perire e il vino a chi ha l'amarezza nel cuore.
7 When they drink, they will forget their misery, and think no more of their burdens.	7 Beva e dimentichi la sua povertà e non si ricordi più delle sue pene.
8 Open your mouth in behalf of the dumb, and for the rights of the destitute;	8 Apri la bocca in favore del muto in difesa di tutti gli sventurati.
9 Open your mouth, decree what is just, defend the needy and the poor!	9 Apri la bocca e giudica con equità e rendi giustizia all'infelice e al povero.
10 When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls.	10 (Alef) Una donna perfetta chi potrà trovarla? Ben superiore alle perle è il suo valore.
11 Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize.	11 (Bet) In lei confida il cuore del marito e non verrà a mancargli il profitto.
12 She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life.	12 (Ghimel) Essa gli dà felicità e non dispiacere per tutti i giorni della sua vita.
13 She obtains wool and flax and makes cloth with skillful hands.	13 (Dalet) Si procura lana e lino e li lavora volentieri con le mani.
14 Like merchant ships, she secures her provisions from afar.	14 (He) Ella è simile alle navi di un mercante, fa venire da lontano le provviste.
15 She rises while it is still night, and distributes food to her household.	15 (Vau) Si alza quando ancora è notte e prepara il cibo alla sua famiglia e dà ordini alle sue domestiche.
16 She picks out a field to purchase; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.	16 (Zain) Pensa ad un campo e lo compra e con il frutto delle sue mani pianta una vigna.
17 She is girt about with strength, and sturdy are her arms.	17 (Het) Si cinge con energia i fianchi e spiega la forza delle sue braccia.
18 She enjoys the success of her dealings; at night her lamp is undimmed.	18 (Tet) È soddisfatta, perché il suo traffico va bene, neppure di notte si spegne la sua lucerna.
19 She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle.	19 (Iod) Stende la sua mano alla conocchia e mena il fuso con le dita.
20 She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy.	20 (Caf) Apre le sue mani al misero, stende la mano al povero.
21 She fears not the snow for her household; all her charges are doubly clothed.	21 (Lamed) Non teme la neve per la sua famiglia, perché tutti i suoi di casa hanno doppia veste.
22 She makes her own coverlets; fine linen and purple are her clothing.	22 (Mem) Si fa delle coperte, di lino e di porpora sono le sue vesti.
23 Her husband is prominent at the city gates as he sits with the elders of the land.	23 (Nun) Suo marito è stimato alle porte della città dove siede con gli anziani del paese.
24 She makes garments and sells them, and stocks the merchants with belts.	24 (Samech) Confeziona tele di lino e le vende e fornisce cinture al mercante.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come.	25 (Ain) Forza e decoro sono il suo vestito e se la ride dell'avvenire.
26 She opens her mouth in wisdom, and on her tongue is kindly counsel.	26 (Pe) Apre la bocca con saggezza e sulla sua lingua c'è dottrina di bontà.
27 She watches the conduct of her household, and eats not her food in idleness.	27 (Sade) Sorveglia l'andamento della casa; il pane che mangia non è frutto di pigrizia.
28 Her children rise up and praise her; her husband, too, extols her:	28 (Kof) I suoi figli sorgono a proclamarla beata e suo marito a farne l'elogio:
29 "Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all."	29 (Res) "Molte figlie hanno compiuto cose eccellenti, ma tu le hai superate tutte!".
30 Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.	30 (Sin) Fallace è la grazia e vana è la bellezza, ma la donna che teme Dio è da lodare.
31 Give her a reward of her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates.	31 (Tau) Datele del frutto delle sue mani e le sue stesse opere la lodino alle porte della città.
