Proverbs 31

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 The words of Lemuel, king of Massa. The advice which his mother gave him:	1 Palabras de Lemuel, rey de Masá, que le inculcó su madre:
2 What, my son, my first-born! what, O son of my womb; what, O son of my vows!	2 ¡No, hijo mío! ¡No, hijo de mis entrañas! ¡No, hijo de mis votos!
3 Give not your vigor to women, nor your strength to those who ruin kings.	3 No entregues tu vigor a las mujeres, ni tu vida a las que corrompen a los reyes.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, not for kings to drink wine; strong drink is not for princes!	4 No es propio de los reyes, Lemuel, no es propio de los reyes beber vino, ni de los príncipes desear bebidas fuertes,
5 Lest in drinking they forget what the law decrees, and violate the rights of all who are in need.	5 no sea que por beber se olviden de los decretos y traicionen la causa de los desvalidos.
6 Give strong drink to one who is perishing, and wine to the sorely depressed;	6 Den bebida fuerte al que va a perecer y vino al que está sumido en la amargura:
7 When they drink, they will forget their misery, and think no more of their burdens.	7 que beba y se olvide de su miseria y no se acuerde más de su desgracia.
8 Open your mouth in behalf of the dumb, and for the rights of the destitute;	8 Abre tu boca en favor del mudo y en defensa de todos los desamparados;
9 Open your mouth, decree what is just, defend the needy and the poor!	9 abre tu boca, juzga con justicia y defiende la causa del desvalido y del pobre.
10 When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls.	10 [Alef] Una buena ama de casa, ¿quién la encontrará? Es mucho más valiosa que las perlas.
11 Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize.	11 [Bet] El corazón de su marido confía en ella y no le faltará compensación.
12 She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life.	12 [Guímel]Ella le hace el bien, y nunca el mal, todos los días de su vida.
13 She obtains wool and flax and makes cloth with skillful hands.	13 [Dálet] Se procura la lana y el lino, y trabaja de buena gana con sus manos.
14 Like merchant ships, she secures her provisions from afar.	14 [He] Es como los barcos mercantes: trae sus provisiones desde lejos.
15 She rises while it is still night, and distributes food to her household.	15 [Vau] Se levanta cuando aún es de noche, distribuye la comida a su familia y las tareas a sus servidoras.
16 She picks out a field to purchase; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.	16 [Zain] Tiene en vista un campo, y lo adquiere, con el fruto de sus manos planta una viña.
17 She is girt about with strength, and sturdy are her arms.	17 [Jet] Ciñe vigorosamente su cintura y fortalece sus brazos para el trabajo.
18 She enjoys the success of her dealings; at night her lamp is undimmed.	18 [Tet] Ve con agrado que sus negocios prosperan, su lámpara no se apaga por la noche.
19 She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle.	19 [Iod] Aplica sus manos a la rueca y sus dedos manejan el huso.
20 She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy.	20 [Caf] Abre su mano al desvalido y tiende sus brazos al indigente.
21 She fears not the snow for her household; all her charges are doubly clothed.	21 [Lámed] No teme por su casa cuando nieva, porque toda su familia tiene la ropa forrada.
22 She makes her own coverlets; fine linen and purple are her clothing.	22 [Mem] Ella misma se hace sus mantas, y sus vestidos son de lino fino y púrpura.
23 Her husband is prominent at the city gates as he sits with the elders of the land.	23 [Nun] Su marido es respetado en la puerta de la ciudad, cuando se sienta entre los ancianos del lugar.
24 She makes garments and sells them, and stocks the merchants with belts.	24 [Sámec] Confecciona telas finas y las vende, y provee de cinturones a los comerciantes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come.	25 [Ain] Está revestida de fortaleza y dignidad, y afronta confiada el porvenir.
26 She opens her mouth in wisdom, and on her tongue is kindly counsel.	26 [Pe] Abre su boca con sabiduría y hay en sus labios una enseñanza fiel.
27 She watches the conduct of her household, and eats not her food in idleness.	27 [Sade] Vigila la marcha de su casa y no come el pan ociosamente.
28 Her children rise up and praise her; her husband, too, extols her:	28 [Qof] Sus hijos se levantan y la felicitan, y también su marido la elogia:
29 "Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all."	29 [Res] «¡Muchas mujeres han dado pruebas de entereza, pero tú las superas a todas!».
30 Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.	30 [Sin] Engañoso es el encanto y vana la hermosura: la mujer que teme al Señor merece ser alabada.
31 Give her a reward of her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates.	31 [Tau] Entréguenle el fruto de sus manos y que sus obras la alaben públicamente.
