A psalm of Asaph. The LORD, the God of gods, has spoken and summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.1 [Psalm Of Asaph] The God of gods, Yahweh, is speaking, from east to west he summons the earth.
From Zion God shines forth. perfect in beauty.2 From Zion, perfection of beauty, he shines forth;
Our God comes and will not be silent! Devouring fire precedes, storming fiercely round about.3 he is coming, our God, and wil not be silent. Devouring fire ahead of him, raging tempest around him,
God summons the heavens above and the earth to the judgment of his people:4 he summons the heavens from on high, and the earth to judge his people.
"Gather my faithful ones before me, those who made a covenant with me by sacrifice."5 'Gather to me my faithful, who sealed my covenant by sacrifice.'
The heavens proclaim divine justice, for God alone is the judge. Selah6 The heavens proclaim his saving justice, 'God himself is judge.'Pause
"Listen, my people, I will speak; Israel, I will testify against you; God, your God, am I.7 'Listen, my people, I am speaking, Israel, I am giving evidence against you, I, God, your God.
Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you, nor for your holocausts, set before me daily.8 'It is not with your sacrifices that I find fault, those burnt offerings constantly before me;
I need no bullock from your house, no goats from your fold.9 I will not accept any bul from your homes, nor a single goat from your folds.
For every animal of the forest is mine, beasts by the thousands on my mountains.10 'For all forest creatures are mine already, the animals on the mountains in their thousands.
I know every bird of the heavens; the creatures of the field belong to me.11 I know every bird in the air, whatever moves in the fields is mine.
Were I hungry, I would not tell you, for mine is the world and all that fills it.12 'If I am hungry I shall not tel you, since the world and all it holds is mine.
Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?13 Am I to eat the flesh of bul s or drink the blood of goats?
Offer praise as your sacrifice to God; fulfill your vows to the Most High.14 'Let thanksgiving be your sacrifice to God, fulfil the vows you make to the Most High;
Then call on me in time of distress; I will rescue you, and you shall honor me."15 then if you call to me in time of trouble I wil rescue you and you wil honour me.'
But to the wicked God says: "Why do you recite my commandments and profess my covenant with your lips?16 But to the wicked, God says: 'What right have you to recite my statutes, to take my covenant on yourlips,
You hate discipline; you cast my words behind you!17 when you detest my teaching, and thrust my words behind you?
When you see thieves, you befriend them; with adulterers you throw in your lot.18 'You make friends with a thief as soon as you see one, you feel at home with adulterers,
You give your mouth free rein for evil; you harness your tongue to deceit.19 your conversation is devoted to wickedness, and your tongue to inventing lies.
You sit maligning your own kin, slandering the child of your own mother.20 'You sit there, slandering your own brother, you malign your own mother's son.
When you do these things should I be silent? Or do you think that I am like you? I accuse you, I lay the charge before you.21 You do this, and am I to say nothing? Do you think that I am really like you? I charge you, indict youto your face.
"Understand this, you who forget God, lest I attack you with no one to rescue.22 'Think it out, you who forget God, or I wil tear you apart without hope of a rescuer.
Those who offer praise as a sacrifice honor me; to the obedient I will show the salvation of God."23 Honour to me is a sacrifice of thanksgiving; to the upright I wil show God's salvation.'
