NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
Of David. A maskil. Happy the sinner whose fault is removed, whose sin is forgiven.1 To David himself, understanding. Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Happy those to whom the LORD imputes no guilt, in whose spirit is no deceit.2 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord hath not imputed sin, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
As long as I kept silent, my bones wasted away; I groaned all the day.3 Because I was silent my bones grew old; whilst I cried out all the day long.
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength withered as in dry summer heat. Selah4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: I am turned in my anguish, whilst the thorn is fastened.
Then I declared my sin to you; my guilt I did not hide. I said, "I confess my faults to the LORD," and you took away the guilt of my sin. Selah5 I have acknowledged my sin to thee, and my injustice I have not concealed. I said I will confess against myself my injustice to the Lord: and thou hast forgiven the wickedness of my sin.
Thus should all your faithful pray in time of distress. Though flood waters threaten, they will never reach them.6 For this shall every one that is holy pray to thee in a seasonable time. And yet in a flood of many waters, they shall not come nigh unto him.
You are my shelter; from distress you keep me; with safety you ring me round. Selah7 Thou art my refuge from the trouble which hath encompassed me: my joy, deliver me from them that surround me.
I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel and watch over you.8 I will give thee understanding, and I will instruct thee in this way, in which thou shalt go: I will fix my eyes upon thee.
Do not be senseless like horses or mules; with bit and bridle their temper is curbed, else they will not come to you.9 Do not become like the horse and the mule, who have no understanding. With bit and bridle bind fast their jaws, who come not near unto thee.
Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but love surrounds those who trust in the LORD.10 Many are the scourges of the sinner, but mercy shall encompass him that hopeth in the Lord.
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you just; exult, all you upright of heart.11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye just, and glory, all ye right of heart.
