1 Lo, all this my eye has seen; my ear has heard and perceived it.	1 Tutte queste cose l'occhio mio già le vide, e l'orecchio le ascoltò, e ad una ad una io le compresi.
2 What you know, I also know; I fall not short of you.	2 Quel che sapete voi io pur lo so, ne sono inferiore a voi.
3 But I would speak with the Almighty; I wish to reason with God.	3 Con tutto questo io parlerò all'Onnipotente, e con Dio bramo discorrerla:
4 You are glossing over falsehoods and offering vain remedies, every one of you!	4 Facendo prima vedere come voi fabbri siete di menzogne, e sostenitori di false dottrine.
5 Oh, that you would be altogether silent! This for you would be wisdom.	5 E piacesse a Dio, che steste in silenzio per farvi creder sapienti.
6 Hear now the rebuke I shall utter and listen to the reproof from my lips.	6 Udite adunque la mia correzione, e ponete mente alla sentenza, che uscirà dalle mie labbra.
7 Is it for God that you speak falsehood? Is it for him that you utter deceit?	7 Ha egli forse bisogno Iddio di vostre menzogne, onde per lui parliate con fraude?
8 Is it for him that you show partiality? Do you play advocate on behalf of God?	8 Forse volete prestargli favore? ovver tentate di patrocinar la causa di Dio?
9 Will it be well when he shall search you out? Would you impose on him as one does on men?	9 Sarà egli ciò grato a lui, cui nulla può essere ascoso? o sarà egli deluso, come il sarebbe un uomo, da' vostri inganni?
10 He will openly rebuke you if even in secret you show partiality.	10 Egli stesso vi condannerà, perché occultamente cercate il suo favore.
11 Surely will his majesty affright you and the dread of him fall upon you.	11 Tosto che egli si moverà vi porrà in iscompiglio, e co' suoi terrori vi scuoterà.
12 Your reminders are ashy maxims, your fabrications are mounds of clay.	12 La vostra memoria sarà come cenere, si ridurranno in fango le vostre cervici.
13 Be silent, let me alone! that I may speak and give vent to my feelings.	13 Tacete un tantino, affinchè io dica tutto quello, che la mente mi suggerisca.
14 I will carry my flesh between my teeth, and take my life in my hand.	14 Per qual motivo mi straccio co' miei denti le carni, e l'anima mia porto nelle mie mani?
15 Slay me though he might, I will wait for him; I will defend my conduct before him.	15 Quand'anche egli mi desse morte, in lui spererò; ma accuserò le opere mie dinanzi a lui.
16 And this shall be my salvation, that no impious man can come into his presence.	16 Ed egli sarà mio Salvatore; perocché non comparirà dinanzi a lui verun degli ipocriti.
17 Pay careful heed to my speech, and give my statement a hearing.	17 Ponete mente alle mie parole, e le orecchie porgete a' miei enimmi.
18 Behold, I have prepared my case, I know that I am in the right.	18 Se sarò giudicato, io so, che sarò riconosciuto per giusto.
19 If anyone can make a case against me, then I shall be silent and die.	19 Chi è che voglia venir con me in giudizio? venga pure. Perché mi consumo tacendo?
20 These things only do not use against me, then from your presence I need not hide:	20 Sol due cose non fare a me (o Signore); e allora non mi nasconderò dalla tua faccia:
21 Withdraw your hand far from me, and let not the terror of you frighten me.	21 Ritira da me la tua mano, e non mi sbigottire co' tuoi terrori.
22 Then call me, and I will respond; or let me speak first, and answer me.	22 Interrogami, ed io risponderò; o permetti ch'io parli, e tu rispondimi.
23 What are my faults and my sins? My misdeeds and my sins make known to me!	23 Quante ho io iniquitadi, e peccati? fammi conoscere le mie scelleraggini, e i miei delitti.
24 Why do you hide your face and consider me your enemy?	24 Perché nascondi il tuo volto, e mi consideri per tuo nimico?
25 Will you harass a wind-driven leaf, or pursue a withered straw?	25 Contro una foglia, che il vento disperde dimostri la tua possanza, e ad una secca paglia fai guerra:
26 For you draw up bitter indictments against me, and punish in me the faults of my youth.	26 Perocché amare cose tu scrivi contro di me, e consunto mi vuoi pei peccati di mia adolescenza.
27 You put my feet in the stocks; you watch all my paths and trace out all my footsteps.	27 Mi hai inceppati i piedi, hai notati tutti i miei andamenti, e hai posto mente a tutte le orme de' passi miei:
28 Though he wears out like a leather bottle, like a garment that the moth has consumed?	28 Di me che debbo ridurmi in putredine, ed essere come una veste rosa dalle tignuole.
