1 Lo, all this my eye has seen; my ear has heard and perceived it.	1 Ecco, tutto questo ha visto il mio occhio, l'ha udito il mio orecchio e l'ha compreso.
2 What you know, I also know; I fall not short of you.	2 Quel che sapete voi, lo so anch'io; non sono da meno di voi.
3 But I would speak with the Almighty; I wish to reason with God.	3 Ma io all'Onnipotente vorrei parlare, a Dio vorrei fare rimostranze.
4 You are glossing over falsehoods and offering vain remedies, every one of you!	4 Voi siete raffazzonatori di menzogne, siete tutti medici da nulla.
5 Oh, that you would be altogether silent! This for you would be wisdom.	5 Magari taceste del tutto! sarebbe per voi un atto di sapienza!
6 Hear now the rebuke I shall utter and listen to the reproof from my lips.	6 Ascoltate dunque la mia riprensione e alla difesa delle mie labbra fate attenzione.
7 Is it for God that you speak falsehood? Is it for him that you utter deceit?	7 Volete forse in difesa di Dio dire il falso e in suo favore parlare con inganno?
8 Is it for him that you show partiality? Do you play advocate on behalf of God?	8 Vorreste trattarlo con parzialità e farvi difensori di Dio?
9 Will it be well when he shall search you out? Would you impose on him as one does on men?	9 Sarebbe bene per voi se egli vi scrutasse? Come s'inganna un uomo, credete di ingannarlo?
10 He will openly rebuke you if even in secret you show partiality.	10 Severamente vi redarguirà, se in segreto gli siete parziali.
11 Surely will his majesty affright you and the dread of him fall upon you.	11 Forse la sua maestà non vi incute spavento e il terrore di lui non vi assale?
12 Your reminders are ashy maxims, your fabrications are mounds of clay.	12 Sentenze di cenere sono i vostri moniti, difese di argilla le vostre difese.
13 Be silent, let me alone! that I may speak and give vent to my feelings.	13 Tacete, state lontani da me: parlerò io, mi capiti quel che capiti.
14 I will carry my flesh between my teeth, and take my life in my hand.	14 Voglio afferrare la mia carne con i denti e mettere sulle mie mani la mia vita.
15 Slay me though he might, I will wait for him; I will defend my conduct before him.	15 Mi uccida pure, non me ne dolgo; voglio solo difendere davanti a lui la mia condotta!
16 And this shall be my salvation, that no impious man can come into his presence.	16 Questo mi sarà pegno di vittoria, perché un empio non si presenterebbe davanti a lui.
17 Pay careful heed to my speech, and give my statement a hearing.	17 Ascoltate bene le mie parole e il mio esposto sia nei vostri orecchi.
18 Behold, I have prepared my case, I know that I am in the right.	18 Ecco, tutto ho preparato per il giudizio, son convinto che sarò dichiarato innocente.
19 If anyone can make a case against me, then I shall be silent and die.	19 Chi vuol muover causa contro di me? Perché allora tacerò, pronto a morire.
20 These things only do not use against me, then from your presence I need not hide:	20 Solo, assicurami due cose e allora non mi sottrarrò alla tua presenza;
21 Withdraw your hand far from me, and let not the terror of you frighten me.	21 allontana da me la tua mano e il tuo terrore più non mi spaventi;
22 Then call me, and I will respond; or let me speak first, and answer me.	22 poi interrogami pure e io risponderò oppure parlerò io e tu mi risponderai.
23 What are my faults and my sins? My misdeeds and my sins make known to me!	23 Quante sono le mie colpe e i miei peccati? Fammi conoscere il mio misfatto e il mio peccato.
24 Why do you hide your face and consider me your enemy?	24 Perché mi nascondi la tua faccia e mi consideri come un nemico?
25 Will you harass a wind-driven leaf, or pursue a withered straw?	25 Vuoi spaventare una foglia dispersa dal vento e dar la caccia a una paglia secca?
26 For you draw up bitter indictments against me, and punish in me the faults of my youth.	26 Poiché scrivi contro di me sentenze amare e mi rinfacci i miei errori giovanili;
27 You put my feet in the stocks; you watch all my paths and trace out all my footsteps.	27 tu metti i miei piedi in ceppi, spii tutti i miei passi e ti segni le orme dei miei piedi.
28 Though he wears out like a leather bottle, like a garment that the moth has consumed?	28 Intanto io mi disfò come legno tarlato o come un vestito corroso da tignola.
