1 Über Zeit und Stunde, Brüder, brauche ich euch nicht zu schreiben.	1 But of the times and moments, brethren, you need not, that we should write to you;
2 Ihr selbst wisst genau, dass der Tag des Herrn kommt wie ein Dieb in der Nacht.	2 For yourselves know perfectly, that the day of the Lord shall so come, as a thief in the night.
3 Während die Menschen sagen: Friede und Sicherheit!, kommt plötzlich Verderben über sie wie die Wehen über eine schwangere Frau, und es gibt kein Entrinnen.	3 For when they shall say, peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.
4 Ihr aber, Brüder, lebt nicht im Finstern, sodass euch der Tag nicht wie ein Dieb überraschen kann.	4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ihr alle seid Söhne des Lichts und Söhne des Tages. Wir gehören nicht der Nacht und nicht der Finsternis.	5 For all you are the children of light, and children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do; but let us watch, and be sober.
6 Darum wollen wir nicht schlafen wie die anderen, sondern wach und nüchtern sein.	6 dummy verses inserted by amos
7 Denn wer schläft, schläft bei Nacht, und wer sich betrinkt, betrinkt sich bei Nacht.	7 For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunk, are drunk in the night.
8 Wir aber, die dem Tag gehören, wollen nüchtern sein und uns rüsten mit dem Panzer des Glaubens und der Liebe und mit dem Helm der Hoffnung auf das Heil.	8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.
9 Denn Gott hat uns nicht für das Gericht seines Zorns bestimmt, sondern dafür, dass wir durch Jesus Christus, unseren Herrn, das Heil erlangen.	9 For God hath not appointed us unto wrath, but unto the purchasing of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Er ist für uns gestorben, damit wir vereint mit ihm leben, ob wir nun wachen oder schlafen.	10 Who died for us; that, whether we watch or sleep, we may live together with him.
11 Darum tröstet und ermahnt einander und einer richte den andern auf, wie ihr es schon tut.	11 For which cause comfort one another; and edify one another, as you also do.
12 Wir bitten euch, Brüder: Erkennt die unter euch an, die sich solche Mühe geben, euch im Namen des Herrn zu leiten und zum Rechten anzuhalten.	12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them who labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you:
13 Achtet sie hoch und liebt sie wegen ihres Wirkens! Haltet Frieden untereinander!	13 That you esteem them more abundantly in charity, for their work's sake. Have peace with them.
14 Wir ermahnen euch, Brüder: Weist die zurecht, die ein unordentliches Leben führen, ermutigt die Ängstlichen, nehmt euch der Schwachen an, seid geduldig mit allen!	14 And we beseech you, brethren, rebuke the unquiet, comfort the feeble minded, support the weak, be patient towards all men.
15 Seht zu, dass keiner dem andern Böses mit Bösem vergilt, sondern bemüht euch immer, einander und allen Gutes zu tun.	15 See that none render evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that which is good towards each other, and towards all men.
16 Freut euch zu jeder Zeit!	16 Always rejoice.
17 Betet ohne Unterlass!	17 Pray without ceasing.
18 Dankt für alles; denn das will Gott von euch, die ihr Christus Jesus gehört.	18 In all things give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you all.
19 Löscht den Geist nicht aus!	19 Extinguish not the spirit.
20 Verachtet prophetisches Reden nicht!	20 Despise not prophecies.
21 Prüft alles und behaltet das Gute!	21 But prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Meidet das Böse in jeder Gestalt!	22 From all appearance of evil refrain yourselves.
23 Der Gott des Friedens heilige euch ganz und gar und bewahre euren Geist, eure Seele und euren Leib unversehrt, damit ihr ohne Tadel seid, wenn Jesus Christus, unser Herr, kommt.	23 And may the God of peace himself sanctify you in all things; that your whole spirit, and soul, and body, may be preserved blameless in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Gott, der euch beruft, ist treu; er wird es tun.	24 He is faithful who hath called you, who also will do it.
25 Brüder, betet auch für uns!	25 Brethren, pray for us.
26 Grüßt alle Brüder mit dem heiligen Kuss!	26 Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.
27 Ich beschwöre euch beim Herrn, diesen Brief allen Brüdern vorzulesen.	27 I charge you by the Lord, that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren.
28 Die Gnade Jesu Christi, unseres Herrn, sei mit euch!	28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
