1 ܘܩܥܘ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܥܒܪܘ ܠܓܪܒܝܐ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܢܦܬܚ ܠܡܢܐ ܥܒܪܬ ܠܡܬܟܬܫܘ ܥܡ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ ܘܠܢ ܠܐ ܩܪܝܬ ܠܡܐܙܠ ܥܡܟ ܒܝܬܟ ܡܘܩܕܝܢܢ ܥܠܝܟ ܒܢܘܪܐ1 The men of Ephraim mobilised; they crossed the Jordan near Zaphon and said to Jephthah, 'Why didyou go and make war on the Ammonites without asking us to go with you? We shal burn down your house overyour head!'
2 ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܢܦܬܚ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܢܨܐ ܗܘܝܬ ܐܢܐ ܘܥܡܝ ܥܡ ܒ̈ܢܝ ܥܡܘܢ ܘܩܪܝܬܟܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܦܪܩܬܘܢܢܝ ܡܢ ܐ̈ܝܕܝܗܘܢ2 Jephthah replied, 'My people and I were in serious conflict with the Ammonites. I summoned you, butyou did not come to rescue me from them.
3 ܘܟܕ ܚܙܝܬ ܕܠܝܬ ܡ̇ܢ ܕܦܪܩ ܠܝ ܣܡܬ ܢܦܫܝ ܒܙܘܪ̈ܝ ܘܥܒܪܢ ܥܠ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ ܘܐܫܠܡ ܐܢܘܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝ ܘܗܫܐ ܠܡܢܐ ܣܠܩܬܘܢ ܥܠܝ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܕܬܬܟܬܫܘܢ ܥܡܝ3 When I saw that no one was coming to rescue me, I took my life in my hands and marched against theAmmonites, and Yahweh handed them over to me. So why advance on me today to make war on me?'
4 ܘܟܢܫ ܢܦܬܚ ܠܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܓܠܥܕ ܘܐܬܟܬܫ ܥܡ ܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܡܚܘ ܐܢܫ̈ܝ ܓܠܥܕ ܠܐ̈ܢܫܝ ܐܦܪܝܡ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܡܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܐܦܪ̈ܡܝܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܒܝܬ ܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܡܢܫܐ4 Jephthah then mustered al the men of Gilead and made war on Ephraim, and the men of Gileaddefeated Ephraim -- since the latter used to say, 'You are only fugitives from Ephraim, you Gileadites in the heartof Ephraim and Manasseh.'
5 ܘܐܚܕܘ ܓܠܥܕ̈ܝܐ ܠܡܥܒܪܬܐ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܡܐ ܕܥܒܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܡܥܒܪܬܐ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܬܦܠܛܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܢ ܐܦܪܝܡ ܠܡܥܒܪ ܡܫܐܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܐܢܫ̈ܝ ܓܠܥܕ ܐܦܪܡܝܐ ܐܢܬ5 Gilead then cut Ephraim off from the fords of the Jordan, and whenever Ephraimite fugitives said, 'Letme cross,' the men of Gilead would ask, 'Are you an Ephraimite?' If he said, 'No,'
6 ܐܡ̇ܪ ܠܐ ܐܡܪ̈ܝܢ ܠܗ ܐܡܪ ܫܒ̈ܠܐ ܐܡ̇ܪ ܣܒ̈ܠܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܓܝܪ ܡܫܟܚ ܗܘܐ ܠܡܡܠܠܘ ܗܟܢܐ ܘܐܥܒܪܘܗܝ ܘܢܟܣܘܗܝ ܥܠ ܡܥܒܪܬܐ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܘܢܦܠܘ ܒܙܒܢܐ ܗܘ ܡܢ ܐܦܪܝܡ ܐܪ̈ܒܥܝܢ ܘܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ6 they then said, 'Very well, say Shibboleth.' 8 ܘܕܢ ܡܢ ܒܬܪܗ ܠܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܐܒܝܨܢ ܕܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܠܚܡ8 After him, Ibzan of Bethlehem was judge in Israel.
9 ܘܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܬܠܬܝܢ ܒܢܝ̈ܢ ܘܬܠܬܝܢ ܒܢ̈ܢ ܘܬܠܬܝܢ ܒܢ̈ܬܗ ܐܦܩ ܠܒܪ ܘܬܠܬܝܢ ܟ̈ܠܠܢ ܐܥܠ ܡܢ ܠܒܪ ܘܕܢ ܠܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܫܒܥ ܫܢ̈ܝܢ9 He had thirty sons and thirty daughters. He gave his daughters in marriage outside his clan andbrought in thirty brides from outside for his sons. He was judge in Israel for seven years.
10 ܘܡܝܬ ܐܒܝܨܢ ܘܐܬܩܒܪ ܒܝܬ ܠܚܡ10 Ibzan then died and was buried in Bethlehem.
11 ܘܕܢ ܡܢ ܒܬܪܗ ܠܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܐܠܘܢ ܕܡܢ ܙܒܘܠܘܢ ܥܣܪ ܫܢܝ̈ܢ11 After him, Elon of Zebulun was judge in Israel. He was judge in Israel for ten years.

15 ܘܡܝܬ ܥܟܪܢ ܒܪ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܦܪܥܬܘܢܝܐ ܘܐܬܩܒܪ ܒܐܦܪܥܬܘܢ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܒܛܘܪܐ ܕܥܡ̈ܠܩܝܐ15 Abdon son of Hil el of Pirathon then died and was buried at Pirathon in the territory of Ephraim, in theAmalekite highlands.
