SAGRADA BIBLIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Os filhos da sabedoria formam a assembléia dos justos, e o novo que compõem é, todo ele, obediência e amor.	1 The sons of wisdom are the church of the just: and their generation, obedience and love.
2 Ouvi, meus filhos, os conselhos de vosso pai, segui-os de tal modo que sejais salvos.	2 Children, hear the judgment of your father, and so do that you may be saved.
3 Pois Deus quis honrar os pais pelos filhos, e cuidadosamente fortaleceu a autoridade da mãe sobre eles.	3 For God hath made the father honourable to the children: and seeking the judgment of the mothers, hath confirmed it upon the children.
4 Aquele que ama a Deus o roga pelos seus pecados, acautela-se para não cometê-los no porvir. Ele é ouvido em sua prece cotidiana.	4 He that loveth God, shall obtain pardon for his sine by prayer, and shall refrain himself from them, and shall be heard in the prayer of days.
5 Quem honra sua mãe é semelhante àquele que acumula um tesouro.	5 And he that honoureth his mother is as one that layeth up a treasure.
6 Quem honra seu pai achará alegria em seus filhos, será ouvido no dia da oração.	6 He that honoureth his father shall have joy in his own children, and in the day of his prayer he shall be heard.
7 Quem honra seu pai gozará de vida longa; quem lhe obedece dará consolo à sua mãe.	7 He that honoureth his father shall enjoy a long life: and he that obeyeth the father, shall be a comfort to his mother.
8 Quem teme ao Senhor honra pai e mãe. Servirá aqueles que lhe deram a vida como a seus senhores.	8 He that feareth the Lord, honoureth his parents, and will serve them as his masters that brought him into the world.
9 Honra teu pai por teus atos, tuas palavras, tua paciência,	9 Honour thy father, in work and word, and all patience,
10 a fim de que ele te dê sua bênção, e que esta permaneça em ti até o teu último dia.	10 That a blessing may come upon thee from him, and his blessing may remain in the latter end.
11 A bênção paterna fortalece a casa de seus filhos, a maldição de uma mãe a arrasa até os alicerces.	11 The father's blessing establisheth the houses of the children: but the mother's curse rooteth up the foundation.
12 Não te glories do que desonra teu pai, pois a vergonha dele não poderia ser glória para ti,	12 Glory not in the dishonour of thy father: for his shame is no glory to thee.
13 pois um homem adquire glória com a honra de seu pai, e um pai sem honra é a vergonha do filho.	13 For the glory of a man is from the honour of his father, and a father without honour is the disgrace of the son.
14 Meu filho, ajuda a velhice de teu pai, não o desgostes durante a sua vida.	14 Son, support the old age of thy father, and grieve him not in his life;
15 Se seu espírito desfalecer, sê indulgente, não o desprezes porque te sentes forte, pois tua caridade para com teu pai não será esquecida,	15 And if his understanding fail, have patience with him, and despise him not when thou art in thy strength: for the relieving of the father shall not be forgotten.
16 e, por teres suportado os defeitos de tua mãe, ser-te-á dada uma recompensa;	16 For good shall be repaid to thee for the sin of thy mother.
17 tua casa tornar-se-á próspera na justiça. Lembrar-se-ão de ti no dia da aflição, e teus pecados dissolver-se- ão como o gelo ao sol forte.	17 And in justice thou shalt be built up, and in the day of affliction thou shalt be remembered: and thy sine shall melt away as the ice in the fair warm weather.
18 Como é infame aquele que abandona seu pai, como é amaldiçoado por Deus aquele que irrita sua mãe!	18 Of what an evil fame is he that forsaketh his father: and he is cursed of God that angereth his mother.
19 Meu filho, faze o que fazes com doçura, e mais do que a estima dos homens, ganharás o afeto deles.	19 My son, do thy works in meekness, and thou shalt be beloved above the glory of men.
20 Quanto mais fores elevado, mais te humilharás em tudo, e perante Deus acharás misericórdia;	20 The greater thou art, the more humble thyself in all things, and thou shalt find grace before God:
21 porque só a Deus pertence a onipotência, e é pelos humildes que ele é (verdadeiramente) honrado.	21 For great is the power of God alone, and he is honoured by the humble.
22 Não procures o que é elevado demais para ti; não procures penetrar o que está acima de ti. Mas pensa sempre no que Deus te ordenou. Não tenhas a curiosidade de conhecer um número elevado demais de suas obras,	22 Seek not the things that are too high for thee, and search not into things above thy ability: but the things that God hath commanded thee, think on them always, and in many of his works be not curious.
23 pois não é preciso que vejas com teus olhos os seus segredos.	23 For it is not necessary for thee to see with thy eyes those things that are hid.
24 Acautela-te de uma busca exagerada de coisas inúteis, e de uma curiosidade excessiva nas numerosas obras de Deus,	24 In unnecessary matters be not over curious, and in many of his works thou shalt not be inquisitive.
25 pois a ti foram reveladas muitas coisas, que ultrapassam o alcance do espírito humano.	25 For many things are shewn to thee above the understanding of men.
26 Muitos foram enganados pelas próprias opiniões. Seu sentido os reteve na vaidade.	26 And the suspicion of them hath deceived many, and hath detained their minds in vanity.
27 O coração empedernido acabará por ser infeliz. Quem ama o perigo nele perecerá.	27 A hard heart shall fear evil at the last: and he that loveth danger shall perish in it.
28 O coração de caminhos tortuosos não triunfará, e a alma corrompida neles achará ocasião de queda.	28 A heart that goeth two ways shall not have success, and the perverse of heart shall be scandalized therein.
29 O coração perverso ficará acabrunhado de tristeza, e o pecador ajuntará pecado sobre pecado.	29 A wicked heart shall be laden with sorrows, and the sinner will add sin to sin.
30 Não há nenhuma cura para a assembléia dos soberbos, pois, sem que o saibam, o caule do pecado se enraíza neles.	30 The congregation of the proud shall not be healed: for the plant of wickedness shall take root in them, and it shall not be perceived.
31 O coração do sábio se manifesta pela sua sabedoria; o bom ouvido ouve a sabedoria com ardente avidez.	31 The heart of the wise is understood in wisdom, and a good ear will hear wisdom with all desire.
32 O coração sábio e inteligente abstém-se do pecado. Ele triunfará nas obras de justiça.	32 A wise heart, and which hath understanding, will abstain from sine, and in the works of justice shall have success.
33 A água apaga o fogo ardente, a esmola enfrenta o pecado.	33 Water quencheth a flaming fire, and alms resisteth sins:
34 Deus olha para aquele que pratica a misericórdia; dele se lembrará no porvir, no dia de sua infelicidade este achará apoio.	34 And God provideth for him that sheweth favour: he remembereth him afterwards, and in the time of his fall he shall find a sure stay.
