Ad Ephesios 6

VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Filii, obedite parentibus vestris in Domino : hoc enim justum est.	1 Children, be obedient to your parents in the Lord -- that is what uprightness demands.
2 Honora patrem tuum, et matrem tuam, quod est mandatum primum in promissione :	2 The first commandment that has a promise attached to it is: Honour your father and your mother,
3 ut bene sit tibi, et sis longævus super terram.	3 and the promise is: so that you may have long life and prosper in the land.
4 Et vos patres, nolite ad iracundiam provocare filios vestros : sed educate illos in disciplina et correptione Domini.	4 And parents, never drive your children to resentment but bring them up with correction and adviceinspired by the Lord.
5 Servi, obedite dominis carnalibus cum timore et tremore, in simplicitate cordis vestri, sicut Christo :	5 Slaves, be obedient to those who are, according to human reckoning, your masters, with deep respectand sincere loyalty, as you are obedient to Christ:
6 non ad oculum servientes, quasi hominibus placentes, sed ut servi Christi, facientes voluntatem Dei ex animo,	6 not only when you are under their eye, as if you had only to please human beings, but as slaves ofChrist who wholeheartedly do the wil of God.
7 cum bona voluntate servientes, sicut Domino, et non hominibus :	7 Work wil ingly for the sake of the Lord and not for the sake of human beings.
8 scientes quoniam unusquisque quodcumque fecerit bonum, hoc recipiet a Domino, sive servus, sive liber.	8 Never forget that everyone, whether a slave or a free man, wil be rewarded by the Lord for whateverwork he has done wel .
9 Et vos domini, eadem facite illis, remittentes minas : scientes quia et illorum et vester Dominus est in cælis : et personarum acceptio non est apud eum.	9 And those of you who are employers, treat your slaves in the same spirit; do without threats, and neverforget that they and you have the same Master in heaven and there is no favouritism with him.
10 De cetero, fratres, confortamini in Domino, et in potentia virtutis ejus.	10 Finally, grow strong in the Lord, with the strength of his power.
11 Induite vos armaturam Dei, ut possitis stare adversus insidias diaboli :	11 Put on the ful armour of God so as to be able to resist the devil's tactics.
12 quoniam non est nobis colluctatio adversus carnem et sanguinem, sed adversus principes, et potestates, adversus mundi rectores tenebrarum harum, contra spiritualia nequitiæ, in cælestibus.	12 For it is not against human enemies that we have to struggle, but against the principalities and theruling forces who are masters of the darkness in this world, the spirits of evil in the heavens.
13 Propterea accipite armaturam Dei, ut possitis resistere in die malo, et in omnibus perfecti stare.	13 That is why you must take up al God's armour, or you wil not be able to put up any resistance on theevil day, or stand your ground even though you exert yourselves to the ful .
14 State ergo succincti lumbos vestros in veritate, et induti loricam justitiæ,	14 So stand your ground, with truth a belt round your waist, and uprightness a breastplate,
15 et calceati pedes in præparatione Evangelii pacis,	15 wearing for shoes on your feet the eagerness to spread the gospel of peace
16 in omnibus sumentes scutum fidei, in quo possitis omnia tela nequissimi ignea extinguere :	16 and always carrying the shield of faith so that you can use it to quench the burning arrows of the EvilOne.
17 et galeam salutis assumite, et gladium spiritus (quod est verbum Dei),	17 And then you must take salvation as your helmet and the sword of the Spirit, that is, the word of God.
18 per omnem orationem et obsecrationem orantes omni tempore in spiritu : et in ipso vigilantes in omni instantia et obsecratione pro omnibus sanctis :	18 In al your prayer and entreaty keep praying in the Spirit on every possible occasion. Never get tired ofstaying awake to pray for al God's holy people,
19 et pro me, ut detur mihi sermo in apertione oris mei cum fiducia, notum facere mysterium Evangelii :	19 and pray for me to be given an opportunity to open my mouth and fearlessly make known the mysteryof the gospel
20 pro quo legatione fungor in catena, ita ut in ipso audeam, prout oportet me loqui.	20 of which I am an ambassador in chains; pray that in proclaiming it I may speak as fearlessly as I oughtto.
21 Ut autem et vos sciatis quæ circa me sunt, quid agam, omnia vobis nota faciet Tychicus, carissimus frater, et fidelis minister in Domino :	21 So that you know, as well, what is happening to me and what I am doing, my dear friend Tychicus, mytrustworthy helper in the Lord, wil tel you everything.
22 quem misi ad vos in hoc ipsum, ut cognoscatis quæ circa nos sunt, et consoletur corda vestra.	22 I am sending him to you precisely for this purpose, to give you news about us and encourage youthoroughly.
23 Pax fratribus, et caritas cum fide a Deo Patre et Domino Jesu Christo.	23 May God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ grant peace, love and faith to al the brothers.
24 Gratia cum omnibus qui diligunt Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum in incorruptione. Amen.	24 May grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ, in life imperishable.
