1 « Per questo il mio cuore tremò e balzò fuori dal suo posto.	1 At this my heart trembles and leaps out of its place,
2 Udite, udite tra lo spavento la sua voce, e il rombo che vien fuori dalla sua bocca!	2 To hear his angry voice as it rumbles forth from his mouth!
3 Egli gira il suo sguardo sotto tutti i cieli, e la sua luce va fino all'estremità della terra.	3 Everywhere under the heavens he sends it, with his lightning, to the ends of the earth.
4 Dietro di lui rugge il suono, egli tuona colla voce della sua grandezza; e udita la sua voce, non si potrà seguirne la traccia.	4 Again his voice roars-- the majestic sound of his thunder.
5 Dio tonerà mirabilmente colla sua voce. Egli fa grandi e imperscrutabili cose.	5 He does great things beyond our knowing; wonders past our searching out.
6 Egli comanda alla neve di cadere sulla terra, alle piogge invernali, alle impetuose procelle.	6 For he says to the snow, "Fall to the earth"; likewise to his heavy, drenching rain.
7 Egli mette un sigillo sulla mano d'ogni uomo, affinchè ciascuno conosca le sue opere.	7 He shuts up all mankind indoors;
8 La fiera si ritira nella sua tana, e sta ferma nel suo covile.	8 the wild beasts take to cover and remain quietly in their dens.
9 La tempesta esce dai recessi, il freddo dal settentrione.	9 Out of its chamber comes forth the tempest; from the north winds, the cold.
10 Al soffio di Dio il ghiaccio s'indurisce, e di nuovo si sciolgono in abbondanza le nevi,	10 With his breath God brings the frost, and the broad waters become congealed.
11 il frumento brama le nuvole, e le nuvole spandono la loro luce.	11 With hail, also, the clouds are laden, as they scatter their flashes of light.
12 ESse vanno errando all'intorno, dovunque le guidi il volere di Colui che le governa, per eseguire i suoi ordini sulla superficie della terra,	12 He it is who changes their rounds, according to his plans, in their task upon the surface of the earth,
13 sia in una tribù, sia nella sua terra, sia in qualche altro luogo in cui la sua misericordia avrà loro ordinato di trovarsi.	13 whether for punishment or mercy, as he commands.
14 Ascolta, o Giobbe, queste cose, fermati a considerare le maraviglie di Dio.	14 Hearken to this, O Job! Stand and consider the wondrous works of God!
15 Sai forse quando Dio abbia comandato alle piogge di far apparire la luce delle sue nuvole?	15 Do you know how God lays his commands upon them, and makes the light shine forth from his clouds?
16 Hai tu conosciute le grandi vie delle nubi e le scienze perfette?	16 Do you know how the clouds are banked, the wondrous work of him who is perfect in knowledge?
17 Non sono forse calde le tue vesti quando l'austro soffia sopra la terra?	17 You, whom the streams of water fail when a calm from the south comes over the land,
18 Hai forse con lui fabbricati i cieli, che sono saldissimi come se fossero gettati in bronzo?	18 Do you spread out with him the firmament of the skies, hard as a brazen mirror?
19 Insegnaci quello che potremo dirgli, giacché noi siamo involti nelle tenebre.	19 Teach us then what we shall say to him; we cannot, for the darkness, make our plea.
20 Chi gli racconterà quello che dico io? Se un uomo ardirà parlargli, resterà annientato.	20 Will he be told about it when I speak, or when a man says he is being destroyed?
21 Ma ora gli uomini non vedono la luce; l'aria all'improvviso s'addensa di nubi: il vento che passa le dissiperà.	21 Nay, rather, it is as the light which men see not while it is obscured among the clouds, till the wind comes by and sweeps the clouds away.
22 L'oro viene dal settentrione, e a Dio si rende lode con timore.	22 From the North the splendor comes, surrounding God's awesome majesty!
23 Noi non possiamo degnamente arrivare a lui. Egli è grande nella potenza, nel giudizio e nella giustizia, ed è ineffabile.	23 The Almighty! we cannot discover him, pre-eminent in power and judgment; his great justice owes no one an accounting.
24 Per questo gli uomini lo temeranno, e nessuno di quelli che si credono saggi ardirà contemplarlo ».	24 Therefore men revere him, though none can see him, however wise their hearts.
