BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Poi Eliu, continuando a parlare, disse anche questo:	1 Elihu continued his speech. He said:
2 « O sapienti, ascoltate le mie parole, o prudenti, statemi a sentire:	2 And now, you sages, listen to what I say, lend me your ears, you learned men.
3 giacchè l'orecchio giudica le parole come il palato discerne i cibi.	3 The ear distinguishes the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food from another.
4 Formiamoci un giudizio, e vediamo tra noi quale sia il meglio.	4 Let us consider together God's ruling and decide what we all mean by good.
5 Giobbe ha detto: Io son giusto: e Dio non mi rende giustizia;	5 Job has been saying, 'I am upright and God denies me fair judgement.
6 nel giudizio fatto contro di me ci sono degli sbagli; la mia piaga è atroce senza che io abbia peccato:	6 My judge is treating me cruel y, my wound is incurable, for no fault of mine.'
7 chi è mai come Giobbe che beve l'insulto come l'acqua,	7 Can anyone else exist like Job, who laps up mockery like water,
8 e cammina con quei che commettono l'iniquità, e s'imbranca cogli scelerati?	8 who consorts with evil-doers and marches in step with the wicked?
9 Infatti ha detto: L'uomo non piacerà a Dio, quand'anche corresse assieme con lui.	9 Did he not say, 'No one derives any benefit from enjoying the society of God'?
10 Or dunque ascoltatemi, o uomini assennati. Lungi da Dio l'empietà, e dall'onnipotente l'ingiustizia.	10 Listen to me then, like intel igent people. Far be evil from God or injustice from Shaddai!
11 Egli infatti renderà all'uomo secondo le sue opere, e retribuirà a ciascuno secondo la sua condotta.	11 For he pays people back for what they do, treating each as his own conduct deserves.
12 Di certo Dio non condanna senza ragione, e l'Onnipotente non perverte la giustizia.	12 Be sure of it: God never does wrong, Shaddai does not pervert what is just.
13 Qual altro ha Egli costituito sopra la terra? A chi ha dato il governo dell'universo da lui creato?	13 Did someone else entrust the world to his care was he given charge of the universe by someoneelse?
14 Se restringesse in sè il suo pensiero, se ritirasse a sè lo spirito e il fiato,	14 If he were to recal his spirit, to concentrate his breath back in himself,
15 sogni carne verrebbe meno, e l'uomo ritornerebbe in cenere.	15 all flesh would instantly perish and al people would return to dust.
16 Se tu sei intelligente, ascolta quanto si dice, e sta' attento al suono delle mie parole.	16 If you have any intel igence, listen to this, lend your ear to the sound of my words.
17 Può forse essere sanato colui che non ama la giustizia? E come fai a condannare a questa maniera colui che è il Giusto?	17 Could an enemy of fair judgement ever govern? Would you dare condemn the Upright One, theAlmighty,
18 Colui che dice al re: Apostata, e chiama i grandi scelerati;	18 who says to a king, 'You are a scoundrel!' and to nobles, 'You are wicked!',
19 colui che non guarda in faccia ai potenti, e non fa conto del tiranno quando è in litigio col povero, perché tutti sono opera delle sue mani.	19 who is unimpressed by princes and makes no distinction between rich and poor, since al alike havebeen made by him?
20 Essi moriranno all'improvviso, nel mezzo della notte, ne saran turbati i popoli, ed essi passeranno, e il violento sarà portato via senza la mano (dell'uomo).	20 They die suddenly, at dead of night, they perish -- these great ones -- and disappear: it costs him noeffort to remove a tyrant.
21 Infatti Dio tien d'occhio la condotta dei mortali e considera tutti i loro passi.	21 For his eyes keep watch on human ways, and he observes every step.
22 Non vi son tenebre, nè ombra di morte ove possano nascondersi quelli che operano l'iniquità.	22 No darkness, no shadow dark as death where wrong-doers can hide!
23 Non è più in potere dell'uomo di comparire al giudizio di Dio.	23 He serves no writ on anyone, no summons to appear before God's court:
24 Egli ne stritolerà una moltitudine innumerevole, e ne stabilirà altri al loro posto.	24 he breaks the powerful without enquiry and sets up others in their places.
25 Conoscendo le loro opere, li travolge nella notte e li fa stritolare;	25 He knows the sort of things they do! He overthrows them at night, to be trampled on.
26 li colpisce come empi in presenza di tutti.	26 He beats them like criminals chained up for al to see,
27 Essi come per partito preso si allontanarono da lui e non vollero comprendere nessuna delle sue vie,	27 since they have turned their backs on him, having understood so little of his ways

29 Se Egli dà pace, chi potrà condannare? Se Egli nasconde il suo volto, chi potrà contemplarlo, sia delle nazioni che di tutti gli uomini?	29 But if he is stil silent and no one can move him, if he veils his face, so that no one can see him, he istaking pity on nations and individuals,
30 E gli fa regnare l'ipocrita a motivo dei peccati del popolo.	30 is setting some wrong-doer free from the meshes of affliction.
31 Giacchè io ho parlato davanti a Dio, non t'impedirò di parlare.	31 When such a one says to God, 'I was misled, I shal not do wrong any more;
32 Se ho sbagliato, mostramelo, e se ho parlato male non dirò altro.	32 although I have sinned, instruct me; although I did wrong, I will not do it again,'
33 Forse che Dio non ti domanderà conto dell'iniquità, perchè ti è dispiaciuto? Tu e non io hai cominciato a parlare, or se hai qualche cosa di meglio, parla.	33 in your opinion, should he punish such a one -- you who have rejected his decisions? This is for youto decide -- not for me!- so kindly enlighten us!
34 Parlino con me gli uomini intelligenti, e l'uomo saggio mi ascolti.	34 Ordinary sensible people, however, wil say to me, and so wil any sage who has been listening tome,
35 Ma Giobbe ha parlato stoltamente, e le sue parole non suonan buona dottrina.	35 'Job's words are spoken without any knowledge, what he says shows no intel igence.
36 Padremio, sia provato Giobbe sino alla fine, non risparmiare l'uomo iniquo;	36 Kindly examine him thoroughly, since his answers imply that he is a criminal.
37 perchè egli aggiunge ai suoi peccati la bestemmia. Frattanto sia fra noi messo alle strette, e poi coi suoi discorsi chiami in giudizio Dio ».	37 For to his sin he now adds rebellion, bringing law to an end among us and heaping abuse on God.'
