1 Dobbiamo dunque temere che, mentre ancora rimane in vigore la promessa di entrare nel suo riposo, qualcuno di voi ne sia giudicato escluso.	1 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest remains, let us fear lest any of you be judged to have failed to reach it.
2 Poiché anche a noi, al pari di quelli, è stata annunziata una buona novella: purtroppo però ad essi la parola udita non giovò in nulla, non essendo rimasti uniti nella fede a quelli che avevano ascoltato.	2 For good news came to us just as to them; but the message which they heard did not benefit them, because it did not meet with faith in the hearers.
3 Infatti noi che abbiamo creduto possiamo entrare in quel riposo, secondo ciò che egli ha detto: 'Sicché ho giurato nella mia ira: Non entreranno nel mio riposo!' Questo, benché le sue opere fossero compiute fin dalla fondazione del mondo.	3 For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, 'They shall never enter my rest," although his works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 Si dice infatti in qualche luogo a proposito del settimo giorno: 'E Dio si riposò nel settimo giorno da tutte le opere sue'.	4 For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way, "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works."
5 E ancora in questo passo: 'Non entreranno nel mio riposo!'	5 And again in this place he said, "They shall never enter my rest."
6 Poiché dunque risulta che alcuni debbono ancora entrare in quel riposo e quelli che per primi ricevettero la buona novella non entrarono a causa della loro disobbedienza,	6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience,
7 egli fissa di nuovo un giorno, 'oggi', dicendo in Davide dopo tanto tempo: 'Oggi, se udite la sua voce, non indurite i vostri cuori!'	7 again he sets a certain day, "Today," saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, "Today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."
8 Se Giosuè infatti li avesse introdotti in quel riposo, Dio non avrebbe parlato, in seguito, di un altro giorno.	8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not speak later of another day.
9 È dunque riservato ancora un riposo sabatico per il popolo di Dio.	9 So then, there remains a sabbath rest for the people of God;
10 Chi è entrato infatti nel suo riposo, riposa anch'egli dalle sue opere, come Dio dalle proprie.	10 for whoever enters God's rest also ceases from his labors as God did from his.
11 Affrettiamoci dunque ad entrare in quel riposo, perché nessuno cada nello stesso tipo di disobbedienza.	11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, that no one fall by the same sort of disobedience.
12 Infatti la parola di Dio è viva, efficace e più tagliente di ogni spada a doppio taglio; essa penetra fino al punto di divisione dell'anima e dello spirito, delle giunture e delle midolla e scruta i sentimenti e i pensieri del cuore.	12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
13 Non v'è creatura che possa nascondersi davanti a lui, ma tutto è nudo e scoperto agli occhi suoi e a lui noi dobbiamo rendere conto.	13 And before him no creature is hidden, but all are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
14 Poiché dunque abbiamo un grande sommo sacerdote, che ha attraversato i cieli, Gesù, Figlio di Dio, manteniamo ferma la professione della nostra fede.	14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15 Infatti non abbiamo un sommo sacerdote che non sappia compatire le nostre infermità, essendo stato lui stesso provato in ogni cosa, a somiglianza di noi, escluso il peccato.	15 For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Accostiamoci dunque con piena fiducia al trono della grazia, per ricevere misericordia e trovare grazia ed essere aiutati al momento opportuno.	16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
