1 Dobbiamo dunque temere che, mentre ancora rimane in vigore la promessa di entrare nel suo riposo, qualcuno di voi ne sia giudicato escluso.	1 Let us beware, then: since the promise never lapses, none of you must think that he has come too latefor the promise of entering his place of rest.
2 Poiché anche a noi, al pari di quelli, è stata annunziata una buona novella: purtroppo però ad essi la parola udita non giovò in nulla, non essendo rimasti uniti nella fede a quelli che avevano ascoltato.	2 We received the gospel exactly as they did; but hearing the message did them no good because theydid not share the faith of those who did listen.
3 Infatti noi che abbiamo creduto possiamo entrare in quel riposo, secondo ciò che egli ha detto: 'Sicché ho giurato nella mia ira: Non entreranno nel mio riposo!' Questo, benché le sue opere fossero compiute fin dalla fondazione del mondo.	3 We, however, who have faith, are entering a place of rest, as in the text: And then in my anger I sworethat they would never enter my place of rest. Now God's work was al finished at the beginning of the world;
4 Si dice infatti in qualche luogo a proposito del settimo giorno: 'E Dio si riposò nel settimo giorno da tutte le opere sue'.	4 as one text says, referring to the seventh day: And God rested on the seventh day after all the work hehad been doing.
5 E ancora in questo passo: 'Non entreranno nel mio riposo!'	5 And, again, the passage above says: They will never reach my place of rest.
6 Poiché dunque risulta che alcuni debbono ancora entrare in quel riposo e quelli che per primi ricevettero la buona novella non entrarono a causa della loro disobbedienza,	6 It remains the case, then, that there would be some people who would reach it, and since those whofirst heard the good news were prevented from entering by their refusal to believe,
7 egli fissa di nuovo un giorno, 'oggi', dicendo in Davide dopo tanto tempo: 'Oggi, se udite la sua voce, non indurite i vostri cuori!'	7 God fixed another day, a Today, when he said through David in the text already quoted: If only youwould listen to him today; do not harden your hearts.
8 Se Giosuè infatti li avesse introdotti in quel riposo, Dio non avrebbe parlato, in seguito, di un altro giorno.	8 If Joshua had led them into this place of rest, God would not later have spoken of another day.
9 È dunque riservato ancora un riposo sabatico per il popolo di Dio.	9 There must stil be, therefore, a seventh-day rest reserved for God's people,
10 Chi è entrato infatti nel suo riposo, riposa anch'egli dalle sue opere, come Dio dalle proprie.	10 since to enter the place of rest is to rest after your work, as God did after his.
11 Affrettiamoci dunque ad entrare in quel riposo, perché nessuno cada nello stesso tipo di disobbedienza.	11 Let us, then, press forward to enter this place of rest, or some of you might copy this example ofrefusal to believe and be lost.
12 Infatti la parola di Dio è viva, efficace e più tagliente di ogni spada a doppio taglio; essa penetra fino al punto di divisione dell'anima e dello spirito, delle giunture e delle midolla e scruta i sentimenti e i pensieri del cuore.	12 The word of God is something alive and active: it cuts more incisively than any two-edged sword: itcan seek out the place where soul is divided from spirit, or joints from marrow; it can pass judgement on secretemotions and thoughts.
13 Non v'è creatura che possa nascondersi davanti a lui, ma tutto è nudo e scoperto agli occhi suoi e a lui noi dobbiamo rendere conto.	13 No created thing is hidden from him; everything is uncovered and stretched fully open to the eyes ofthe one to whom we must give account of ourselves.
14 Poiché dunque abbiamo un grande sommo sacerdote, che ha attraversato i cieli, Gesù, Figlio di Dio, manteniamo ferma la professione della nostra fede.	14 Since in Jesus, the Son of God, we have the supreme high priest who has gone through to the highestheaven, we must hold firm to our profession of faith.
15 Infatti non abbiamo un sommo sacerdote che non sappia compatire le nostre infermità, essendo stato lui stesso provato in ogni cosa, a somiglianza di noi, escluso il peccato.	15 For the high priest we have is not incapable of feeling our weaknesses with us, but has been put tothe test in exactly the same way as ourselves, apart from sin.
16 Accostiamoci dunque con piena fiducia al trono della grazia, per ricevere misericordia e trovare grazia ed essere aiutati al momento opportuno.	16 Let us, then, have no fear in approaching the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace whenwe are in need of help.
