BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Essa è il libro dei decreti di Dio, è la legge che sussiste nei secoli; quanti si attengono ad essa avranno la vita, quanti l'abbandonano moriranno.	1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.
2 Ritorna, Giacobbe, e accoglila, cammina allo splendore della sua luce.	2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:
3 Non dare ad altri la tua gloria, né i tuoi privilegi a gente straniera.	3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.
4 Beati noi, o Israele, perché ciò che piace a Dio ci è stato rivelato.	4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!
5 Coraggio, popolo mio, tu, resto d'Israele!	5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!
6 Siete stati venduti alle genti non per essere annientati, ma perché avete provocato lo sdegno di Dio siete stati consegnati ai nemici.	6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,
7 Avete irritato il vostro creatore, sacrificando ai dèmoni e non a Dio.	7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.
8 Avete dimenticato chi vi ha allevati, il Dio eterno, avete afflitto colei che vi ha nutriti, Gerusalemme.	8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,
9 Essa ha visto piombare su di voi l'ira divina e ha esclamato: Ascoltate, città vicine di Sion, Dio mi ha mandato un grande dolore.	9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.
10 Ho visto, infatti, la schiavitù in cui l'Eterno ha condotto i miei figli e le mie figlie.	10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.
11 Io li avevo nutriti con gioia e li ho dovuti lasciare con lacrime e gemiti.	11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.
12 Nessuno goda di me nel vedermi vedova e desolata; sono abbandonata per i peccati dei miei figli che deviarono dalla legge di Dio,	12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,
13 non si curarono dei suoi decreti, non seguirono i suoi comandamenti, non procedettero per i sentieri della dottrina, secondo la sua giustizia.	13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.
14 Venite, o città vicine di Sion, considerate la schiavitù in cui l'Eterno ha condotto i miei figli e le mie figlie.	14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.
15 Ha mandato contro di loro un popolo lontano, una gente perversa di lingua straniera, che non ha avuto rispetto dei vecchi, né pietà dei bambini,	15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;
16 che ha strappato i cari figli alla vedova e l'ha lasciata sola senza figlie.	16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.
17 E io come posso aiutarvi?	17 For my part, how could I help you?
18 Chi vi ha afflitto con tanti mali saprà liberarvi dal potere dei vostri nemici.	18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.
19 Andate, figli miei, andate, io resto sola.	19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;
20 Ho deposto l'abito di pace, ho indossato il cilicio della supplica, griderò all'Eterno per tutti i miei giorni.	20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.
21 Coraggio, figli miei, gridate a Dio ed egli vi libererà dall'oppressione e dal potere dei vostri nemici.	21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;
22 Io, infatti, spero dall'Eterno la vostra salvezza. Una grande gioia mi viene dal Santo, per la misericordia che presto vi giungerà dall'Eterno vostro salvatore.	22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.
23 Vi ho visti partire fra gemiti e pianti, ma Dio vi ricondurrà a me con letizia e gioia, per sempre.	23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.
24 Come ora le città vicine di Sion hanno visto la vostra schiavitù, così vedranno ben presto la vostra salvezza da parte del vostro Dio; essa verrà a voi con grande gloria e splendore dell'Eterno.	24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.
25 Figli, sopportate con pazienza la collera che da Dio è venuta su di voi. Il nemico vi ha perseguitati, ma vedrete ben presto la sua rovina e calcherete il piede sul suo collo.	25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.
26 I miei figli tanto delicati hanno dovuto battere aspri sentieri, incalzati come gregge rapito dal nemico.	26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.
27 Coraggio, figli, gridate a Dio, poiché si ricorderà di voi colui che vi ha provati.	27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.
28 Però, come pensaste di allontanarvi da Dio, così ritornando decuplicate lo zelo per ricercarlo,	28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;
29 poiché chi vi ha afflitti con tante calamità vi darà anche, con la salvezza, una gioia perenne.	29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.
30 Coraggio, Gerusalemme! Colui che ti ha dato un nome ti consolerà.	30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.
31 Maledetti i tuoi oppressori, che hanno goduto della tua caduta;	31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .
32 maledette le città in cui sono stati schiavi i tuoi figli, maledetta colei che li ha trattenuti.	32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,
33 Come ha gioito per la tua caduta e si è allietata per la tua rovina, così patirà per la sua desolazione.	33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.
34 Le toglierò la gioia di essere così popolata, il suo tripudio sarà cambiato in lutto.	34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;
35 Un fuoco cadrà su di lei per lunghi giorni per volere dell'Eterno e per molto tempo sarà abitata da demoni.	35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.
36 Guarda ad oriente, Gerusalemme, osserva la gioia che ti viene da Dio.	36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.
37 Ecco, ritornano i figli che hai visti partire, ritornano insieme riuniti dall'oriente all'occidente, alla parola del Santo, esultanti per la gloria di Dio.	37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.
