2 A tutta l'assemblea d'Israele Davide disse: "Se vi piace e se il Signore nostro Dio lo consente, comunichiamo ai nostri fratelli rimasti in tutte le regioni di Israele, ai sacerdoti e ai leviti nelle città dei loro pascoli, di radunarsi presso di noi. | 2 Then, to the whole assembly of Israel, David said, 'If this has your approval, and if Yahweh our Godwil s it so, we shal send messengers to the rest of our brothers throughout the territories of Israel, and also tothe priests and Levites in their towns and pasture lands, bidding them join us. |
3 Così riporteremo l'arca del nostro Dio qui presso di noi, perché non ce ne siamo più curati dal tempo di Saul". | 3 And then we will go and recover the ark of our God, for in the days of Saul we neglected to do it.' |
4 Tutti i partecipanti all'assemblea approvarono che si facesse così, perché la proposta parve giusta agli occhi di tutto il popolo.
| 4 The whole assembly agreed to this, because al the people thought that this was the right thing to do. |
5 Davide convocò tutto Israele, da Sicor d'Egitto fino al passo di Amat, per trasportare l'arca di Dio da Kiriat-Iearìm. | 5 So David summoned al Israel from the Shihor of Egypt to the Pass of Hamath, to bring the ark of Godfrom Kiriath-Jearim. |
6 Davide con tutto Israele salì a Baala, in Kiriat-Iearìm, che apparteneva a Giuda, per prendere di là l'arca di Dio, chiamata: Il Signore seduto sui cherubini. | 6 David and al Israel then went up to Baalah, to Kiriath-Jearim in Judah, from there to bring up the arkof God, which bears the title 'Yahweh enthroned on the winged creatures'. |
7 Dalla casa di Abinadàb trasportarono l'arca di Dio su un carro nuovo; Uzza e Achio guidavano il carro. | 7 They transported the ark of God out of Abinadab's house on a new cart. Uzzah and Ahio drove thecart. |
8 Davide e tutto Israele danzavano con tutte le forze davanti a Dio, cantando e suonando cetre, arpe, timpani, cembali e trombe. | 8 David and al Israel danced before God with al their might, singing to the accompaniment of harps,lyres, tambourines, cymbals and trumpets. |
9 Giunti all'aia di Chidon, Uzza stese la mano per trattenere l'arca, perché i buoi la facevano barcollare. | 9 When they came to the threshing-floor of the Javelin, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark,as the oxen were making it tilt. |
10 Ma l'ira del Signore divampò contro Uzza e lo colpì perché aveva steso la mano sull'arca. Così egli morì lì davanti a Dio. | 10 This roused Yahweh's anger against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had laid his handon the Ark, and there he died before God. |
11 Davide si rattristò, perché il Signore era sceso con ira contro Uzza e chiamò quel luogo Perez-Uzza, nome ancora in uso.
| 11 David resented Yahweh's having broken out against Uzzah, and the place was given the namePerez-Uzzah, which it stil has today. |
12 In quel giorno Davide ebbe paura di Dio e pensò: "Come potrei condurre presso di me l'arca di Dio?". | 12 That day David felt afraid of God. 'How can I bring the ark of God to be with me?' he said. |
13 Così Davide non portò l'arca presso di sé nella città di Davide, ma la diresse verso la casa di Obed-Èdom di Gat. | 13 So David did not take the ark with him into the City of David but had it put in the house of Obed-Edom of Gath. |
14 L'arca di Dio rimase nella casa di Obed-Èdom tre mesi. Il Signore benedisse la casa di Obed-Èdom e quanto gli apparteneva. | 14 The ark of God remained with Obed-Edom, in his house, for three months, and Yahweh blessedObed-Edom's family and everything that belonged to him. |
