LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Io sono l'uomo che ha visto la miseria sotto la verga del suo furore.	1 I am the man familiar with misery under the rod of his fury.
2 Mi ha guidato e fatto camminare in tenebra e non in luce.	2 He has led and guided me into darkness, not light.
3 Sì, contro di me volge e rivolge la sua mano tutto il giorno.	3 Against none but me does he turn his hand, again and again, al day.
4 Ha disfatto la mia carne e la mia pelle, ha spezzato le mie ossa.	4 He has wasted my flesh and skin away, has broken my bones.
5 Ha fabbricato contro di me e mi ha avvolto di veleno e di amarezza.	5 He has besieged me and made hardship a circlet round my head.
6 In luoghi tenebrosi m'ha fatto abitare come i morti da tempo.	6 He has forced me to dwel where al is dark, like those long-dead in their everlasting home.
7 Ha innalzato un muro attorno a me: non posso uscire, ha appesantito la mia catena.	7 He has walled me in so that I cannot escape; he has weighed me down with chains;

9 Ha murato le mie strade con massi tagliati, ha deviato i miei sentieri.	9 He has closed my way with blocks of stone, he has obstructed my paths.
10 Orso in agguato è stato per me, un leone nei nascondigli.	10 For me he is a lurking bear, a lion in hiding.
11 Le mie strade ha deviato, m'ha dilaniato, m'ha fatto oggetto di desolazione.	11 Heading me off, he has torn me apart, leaving me shattered.
12 Ha teso il suo arco e m'ha posto come bersaglio alla freccia.	12 He has bent his bow and used me as a target for his arrows.
13 Ha conficcato nei miei reni le frecce della sua faretra.	13 He has shot deep into me with shafts from his quiver.
14 Sono diventato il riso di tutto il mio popolo, la sua canzone di tutto il giorno.	14 I have become a joke to al my own people, their refrain all day long.
15 Mi ha saziato con erbe amare e dissetato con assenzio.	15 He has given me my fil of bitterness, he has made me drunk with wormwood.
16 Mi ha spezzato i denti nella ghiaia, m'ha fatto cadere nella polvere.	16 He has broken my teeth with gravel, he has fed me on ashes.
17 E si è allontanata dalla pace l'anima mia, ho dimenticato la felicità.	17 I have been deprived of peace, I have forgotten what happiness is
18 Ho detto: "E' svanito il mio vigore e la mia speranza nel Signore!".	18 and thought, 'My lasting hope in Yahweh is lost.'
19 Ricordare la mia miseria e il mio vagare è assenzio e veleno!	19 Bring to mind my misery and anguish; it is wormwood and gall!
20 Ricorda, ricorda e si piega su se stessa l'anima mia.	20 My heart dwel s on this continual y and sinks within me.
21 Questo io richiamo in cuor mio, perché io possa sperare.	21 This is what I shal keep in mind and so regain some hope:
22 Le grazie del Signore non sono finite, non sono esauriti i suoi atti di compassione.	22 Surely Yahweh's mercies are not over, his deeds of faithful love not exhausted;
23 Si rinnovano ogni mattino: grande è la sua fedeltà!	23 every morning they are renewed; great is his faithfulness!
24 "Mia parte è il Signore, dice la mia anima, per questo spero in lui".	24 'Yahweh is al I have,' I say to myself, 'and so I shal put my hope in him.'
25 Buono è il Signore per chi spera in lui, per l'anima che lo cerca.	25 Yahweh is good to those who trust him, to al who search for him.
26 Buona cosa è attendere, e in silenzio, la salvezza del Signore.	26 It is good to wait in silence for Yahweh to save.
27 Buona cosa è per l'uomo, portare un giogo nella sua giovinezza.	27 It is good for someone to bear the yoke from a young age,
28 Sieda in disparte e taccia, quando egli l'avrà posto su di lui.	28 to sit in solitude and silence when it weighs heavy,
29 Metta nella polvere la sua bocca: forse vi è ancora speranza!	29 to lay one's head in the dust -- maybe there is hope-
30 Offra, a chi lo percuote, la guancia, si sazi di obbrobrio!	30 to offer one's cheek to the striker, to have one's fil of disgrace!
31 Perché il Signore non allontana per sempre i figli dell'uomo.	31 For the Lord will not reject anyone for ever.
32 Perché, se affligge, ha pietà, secondo la grandezza delle sue grazie.	32 If he brings grief, he wil have pity out of the ful ness of his faithful love,
33 Perché non di buon cuore umilia e affligge i figli dell'uomo.	33 for it is not for his own pleasure that he torments and grieves the human race.
34 Quando uno calpesta sotto i suoi piedi tutti i prigionieri di un paese,	34 When al the prisoners in a country are crushed underfoot,
35 quando uno perverte il diritto d'un uomo, dinanzi al volto dell'Altissimo,	35 when human rights are overridden in defiance of the Most High,
36 quando uno fa torto a un uomo nel suo processo, il Signore non vede?	36 when someone is cheated of justice, does not the Lord see it?
37 Chi disse una cosa e fu fatta? Non l'ha forse comandata il Signore?	37 Who has only to speak and it is so done? Who commands, if not the Lord?
38 Dalla bocca dell'Altissimo non procedono i mali e i beni?	38 From where, if not from the mouth of the Most High, do evil and good come?
39 Perché si lamenta l'uomo, l'uomo che vive malgrado i suoi peccati?	39 Why then should anyone complain? Better to be bold against one's sins.
40 Investighiamo le nostre vie e scrutiamole, torniamo al Signore!	40 Let us examine our path, let us ponder it and return to Yahweh.
41 Eleviamo il nostro cuore sulle mani al Dio che è nei cieli!	41 Let us raise our hearts and hands to God in heaven.
42 Noi abbiamo peccato, siamo stati ribelli e tu non hai perdonato.	42 We are the ones who have sinned, who have rebel ed, and you have not forgiven.
43 Ti sei avvolto di furore e ci hai inseguito, hai ucciso: non hai avuto pietà!	43 You have enveloped us in anger, pursuing us, slaughtering without pity.
44 Ti sei avvolto in una nube, perché non passasse la preghiera.	44 You have wrapped yourself in a cloud too thick for prayer to pierce.
45 Spazzatura e rifiuto ci hai resi in mezzo ai popoli.	45 You have reduced us to rubbish and refuse among the nations.
46 Hanno spalancato contro di noi la loro bocca tutti i nostri nemici.	46 Our enemies open their mouths in chorus against us.
47 Terrore e fossa sono stati per noi, sterminio e rovina.	47 Terror and pitfal have been our lot, ravage and ruin.
48 Il mio occhio gronda rivi di lacrime per la rovina della figlia del mio popolo.	48 My eyes dissolve in torrents of tears at the ruin of my beloved people.
49 L'occhio mio si discioglie e non ha sosta: non ha sollievo,	49 My eyes wil weep ceaselessly, without relief,
50 fino a quando il Signore guardi e veda dai cieli.	50 until Yahweh looks down and sees from heaven.
51 L'occhio mio tormenta la mia anima alla vista delle figlie della mia città.	51 My eyes have grown sore over al the daughters of my city.
52 Mi hanno dato la caccia come a un uccello, quelli che mi odiano senza motivo.	52 Unprovoked, my enemies hunted me down like a bird.
53 Hanno buttato nella fossa la mia vita e gettato pietre su di me.	53 They shut me final y in a pit, they closed me in with a stone.
54 Le acque hanno sommerso il mio capo; ho detto: "Sono perduto!".	54 The waters rose over my head; I thought, 'I am lost!'
55 Ho gridato il tuo nome, Signore, dalla fossa più profonda.	55 Yahweh, I called on your name from the deep pit.
56 La mia voce hai udito: "Non chiudere il tuo orecchio al mio grido!".	56 You heard my voice, do not close your ear to my prayer, to my cry.
57 Ti sei accostato, quando ti ho chiamato; mi hai detto: "Non temere!".	57 You are near when I cal to you. You said, 'Do not be afraid!'
58 Hai difeso, Signore, la mia causa, hai riscattato la mia vita.	58 Lord, you defended my cause, you have redeemed my life.
59 Hai visto, Signore, la mia umiliazione: difendi il mio diritto!	59 Yahweh, you have seen the wrong done to me, grant me redress.
60 Hai visto tutte le loro vendette, tutti i loro complotti contro di me.	60 You have seen their vindictiveness, al their plots against me.
61 Hai udito i loro insulti, Signore, tutti i loro complotti contro di me,	61 You have heard their insults, Yahweh, al their plots against me,
62 le labbra dei miei aggressori e i loro disegni contro di me tutto il giorno.	62 the whispering and murmuring of my enemies against me all day long.
63 Sèggano o si alzino, tu osservali: io sono la loro canzone!	63 Look, whether they sit or stand, I am their refrain.
64 Rendi loro la ricompensa, Signore, secondo l'opera delle loro mani.	64 Yahweh, repay them as their deeds deserve.
65 Da' loro durezza di cuore, la tua maledizione su di loro.	65 Lay hardness of heart as your curse on them.
66 Perséguitali nell'ira e stèrminali da sotto i tuoi cieli, o Signore!	66 Angrily pursue them, root them out from under your heavens!
