1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.	1 Tu, pois, meu filho, fortifica-te na graça que está em Jesus Cristo,
2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.	2 e o que ouviste de mim, diante de muitas testemunhas, confia-o a homens fiéis, capazes combater de instruir também a outros.
3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.	3 Suporta os trabalhos como um bom soldado de Jesus Cristo,
4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;	4 Ninguém, que se alistou na milícia, se embaraça com negócios civis, se quer agradar àquele que o alistou.
5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;	5 Efetivamente também o que combate nos jogos públicos não é coroado, senão depois que combateu segundo as regras.
6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.	6 O lavrador que trabalha, deve ser o primeiro a ter parte nos frutos da colheita.
7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.	7 Reflete no que te digo, porque o Senhor te dará a inteligência em todas as coisas.
8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';	8 Lembra-te que o Senhor Jesus Cristo, que descende do sangue de David, ressuscitou dos mortos, segundo o meu Evangelho,
9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.	9 pelo qual sofro até estar em prisões, como um malfeitor; mas a palavra de Deus não está presa (como eu).
10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.	10 Portanto sofro tudo por amor dos escolhidos, para que também eles consigam a salvação que está em Jesus Cristo, com a glória eterna.
11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.	11 Palavra segura é esta: Se morrermos com ele, também com ele viveremos;
12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.	12 se perseverarmos, reinaremos também com ele; se o negarmos, ele também nos negará a nós
13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.	13 se formos infiéis, ele permanecerá fiel, porque não pode negar-se a si mesmo.
14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.	14 Recorda estas coisas, dando testemunho, diante do Senhor, de que é preciso evitar contendas de palavras, porque isto nada aproveita, senão para perverter os que as ouvem,
15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.	15 Esforça-te por te apresentares a Deus digno de aprovação, como um operário que não tem de que se envergonhar, que distribui retamente a palavra da verdade.
16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.	16 Evita as conversas vãs e ímpias porque contribuem muito para a impiedade,
17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,	17 e a palavra de quem se entrega a tais conversas vai lavrando como gangrena; neste caso estão Himeneu e Fileto,
18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.	18 que se extraviaram da verdade, dizendo que já se deu a ressurreição, e perverteram a fé de alguns.
19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'	19 Porém o fundamento de Deus está firme, tendo este selo: O senhor conhece os que são seus (Nm. 16, 5), e: Afaste se da iniquidade todo aquele que invoca o nome do Senhor (Is. 26, 13).
20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.	20 Ora numa grande casa há não somente vasos de ouro e de prata, mas também vasos de pau e de barro; uns (são destinados) para usos honrosos, outros para usos vulgares.
21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.	21 Se algum, pois, se purificar destas coisas, será um vaso de honra, santificado e útil ao Senhor, preparado para toda a obra boa.
22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.	22 Foge das paixões da juventude, segue a justiça, a fé, a caridade e a paz com aqueles que invocam o Senhor com um coração puro.
23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;	23 Evita questões loucas e desacertadas, sabendo que produzem contendas.
24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.	24 Ora não convém que o servo do Senhor se ponha a altercar, mas que seja manso para com todos, pronto para instruir, paciente,
25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth	25 que corrija com mansidão os opositores, na esperança de que Deus lhes dará a graça de se converterem ao conhecimento da verdade
26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.	26 e de se tornarem razoáveis, uma vez desprendidos dos laços do demônio, que os tem escravos da sua vontade.
