2 Timothy 2

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.	1 Tu ergo, fili mi, confortare in gratia, quae est in Christo Iesu;
2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.	2 et quae audisti a me per multos testes, haec commenda fidelibus hominibus, qui idonei erunt et alios docere.
3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.	3 Collabora sicut bonus miles Christi Iesu.
4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;	4 Nemo militans implicat se saeculi negotiis, ut ei placeat, qui eum elegit;
5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;	5 si autem certat quis agone, non coronatur nisi legitime certaverit.
6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.	6 Laborantem agricolam oportet primum de fructibus accipere.
7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.	7 Intellege, quae dico; dabit enim tibi Dominus in omnibus intellectum.
8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';	8 Memor esto Iesum Christum resuscitatum esse a mortuis, ex semine David, secundum evangelium meum,
9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.	9 in quo laboro usque ad vincula quasi male operans; sed verbum Dei non est alligatum!
10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.	10 Ideo omnia sustineo propter electos, ut et ipsi salutem consequantur, quae est in Christo Iesu cum gloria aeterna.
11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.	11 Fidelis sermo, Nam, si commortui sumus, et convivemus;
12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.	12 si sustinemus, et conregnabimus; si negabimus, et ille negabit nos;
13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.	13 si non credimus, ille fidelis manet, negare enim seipsum non potest.
14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.	14 Haec commone testificans coram Deo verbis non contendere: in nihil utile est, nisi ad subversionem audientium.
15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.	15 Sollicite cura teipsum probabilem exhibere Deo, operarium inconfusibilem, recte tractantem verbum veritatis.
16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.	16 Profana autem inaniloquia devita, magis enim proficient ad impietatem,
17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,	17 et sermo eorum ut cancer serpit; ex quibus est Hymenaeus et Philetus,
18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.	18 qui circa veritatem aberraverunt dicentes resurrectionem iam factam, et subvertunt quorundam fidem.
19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'	19 Sed firmum fundamentum Dei stat habens signaculum hoc: Cognovit Dominus, qui sunt eius, et: Discedat ab iniquitate omnis, qui nominat nomen Domini.
20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.	20 In magna autem domo non solum sunt vasa aurea et argentea sed et lignea et fictilia, et quaedam quidem in honorem, quaedam autem in ignominiam;
21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.	21 si quis ergo emundaverit se ab istis, erit vas in honorem, sanctificatum, utile Domino, ad omne opus bonum paratum.
22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.	22 Iuvenilia autem desideria fuge, sectare vero iustitiam, fidem, caritatem, pacem cum his, qui invocant Dominum de corde puro.
23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;	23 Stultas autem et sine disciplina quaestiones devita, sciens quia generant lites;
24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.	24 servum autem Domini non oportet litigare, sed mansuetum esse ad omnes, aptum ad docendum, patientem,
25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth	25 cum mansuetudine corripientem eos, qui resistunt, si quando det illis Deus paenitentiam ad cognoscendam veritatem,
26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.	26 et resipiscant a Diaboli laqueo, a quo capti tenentur ad ipsius voluntatem.
