1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.	1 - Tu dunque, figlio mio, fortificati nella grazia in Cristo Gesù,
2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.	2 e le cose che hai sentito da me a mezzo di molti testimoni, tu trasmettile a persone fedeli, che saranno in grado di ammaestrare altri.
3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.	3 Anche tu sopporta i dolori come buon soldato di Cristo Gesù.
4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;	4 Nessuno che militi s'implica in affari della vita, allo scopo di piacere a chi lo ha arrolato.
5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;	5 Anche chi prende parte alle gare atletiche, non riceve la corona se non ha combattuto secondo le regole.
6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.	6 Il contadino che lavora bisogna che abbia prima la sua parte di frutti.
7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.	7 Rifletti a quel che ti dico, giacchè il Signore ti darà intelligenza in ogni cosa.
8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';	8 Ricordati che Gesù Cristo risuscitò dai morti, Egli del seme di David, secondo il mio Vangelo.
9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.	9 Per il quale soffro de' guai, fino alle catene, come un malfattore; ma la parola di Dio non si lega con catene.
10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.	10 Per questo sopporto tutto, per amor degli eletti, affinchè anche loro conseguano la salvezza in Cristo Gesù, coll'eterna gloria.
11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.	11 È parola di fede, che se siamo insieme morti, con lui insieme anche vivremo;
12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.	12 se siamo costanti con lui anche regneremo: se lo rinnegheremo anch'egli rinnegherà noi;
13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.	13 se siamo fedeli noi, egli rimane fedele perchè non può mica rinnegare se stesso.
14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.	14 Queste cose richiama alla memoria, scongiurando davanti a Dio, che non si contrasti a parole; cosa che non giova a nulla se non alla rovina di quelli che ascoltano.
15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.	15 Tu studiati di comparire degno di approvazione davanti a Dio, come operaio che non ha da arrossire mai, dispensando convenientemente la parola di verità.
16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.	16 Evita le profane e vuote chiacchiere; poichè avanzeranno sempre più nell'empietà,
17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,	17 e la loro parola va serpeggiando come cancrena. Son di questo numero Imeneo e Fileto,
18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.	18 i quali han perso di mira la verità, dicendo che la risurrezione è già avvenuta, e sovvertono la fede di alcuni.
19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'	19 Pure saldo rimane il fondamento di Dio, e porta questo suggello: «Ha ben conosciuto il Signore quelli che son suoi» e: «Si ritragga dall'iniquità» chiunque «pronunzia il nome del Signore».
20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.	20 In una gran casa non vi sono soltanto vasi d'oro e d'argento, ma anche di legno e d'argilla, gli uni a uso d'onore, gli altri a uso vile;
21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.	21 se adunque uno si sarà serbato puro da tali cose, sarà come un vaso di rispetto, santificato, utile al padrone adatto a qualunque opera buona.
22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.	22 Fuggi le passioni giovanili, segui la giustizia, la fede, la carità, la pace, con quelli che invocano il Signore con puro cuore.
23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;	23 E le stolte e incivili dispute evitale, sapendo che generano contese;
24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.	24 un servo del Signore non deve litigare ma esser affabile con tutti, bravo a insegnare, paziente,
25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth	25 tale che con mitezza ammaestri quelli che gli si schieran contro, se mai conceda loro Iddio il pentimento per riconoscere la verità,
26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.	26 e ritornino in sè liberandosi dai lacci del diavolo, che li aveva fatti prigionieri perchè eseguissero la volontà sua.
